A Search for Sean Penn’s Replacement

The Farrelly brothers are looking for an actor to replace Sean Penn in the role of Larry in the film The Three Stooges.

Last week, Penn announced that he was dropping out of the Farrelly brothers’ film, as well as another project to spend more time with his family.

Penn was supposed to play Larry of the famous trio, alongside Jim Carrey as Curly and Benicio del Toro as Moe. They would like to find a replacement quickly for the actor to avoid schedule conflicts that may cause the departure of the other actors.

Last weekend, The Boston Herald suggested that Paul Giamatti replace Sean Penn. Bobby Farrelly told the newspaper that Paul would be a great Larry, but that an an offer has already been made to another actor. Several rumours have implicated Steve Buscemi (Rage, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry) as the new actor.

In the meantime, Paul Giamatti is in the Laurentian region of Quebec to film Barney’s Version with Dustin Hoffman. While Buscemi can be seen in the movie Youth in Revolt, which will hit theatres on October 30.
