A Sequel for The School of Rock

Paramount Pictures is working on a sequel to the film The School of Rock.

Jack Black will be returning to his role as music professor Dewey Finn in the follow-up film to The School of Rock, reports Variety.

In the second installment, to be called School of Rock 2: America Rocks, Finn will guide a group of students on an educational field trip.  They will discover the history of rock and roll, but will also learn the origins of rap, blues, country, and other types of music.

Mike White has agreed to write the screenplay.  He also worked with Black in the films Nacho Libre and Orange County.

Director Richard Linklater will direct the film, as he did the first, and Scott Rudin will produce.

The first film was a hit for Paramount Pictures.  The movie had a budget of only $30 million, but earned $131 million at box offices worldwide.

Jack Black fans can next see him in the comedy Tropic Thunder, which hits theatres on August 15.
