A train for bikes in Ontario

GO Transit will add trains to transport bikes from Toronto to Niagara Falls.

Starting next week, GO Transit, the interregional train company in Ontario, will put two cars on the track to welcome bike passengers. Cyclists can get a ride to one of the cities that GO Transit serves this summer on its route between Toronto and Niagara Falls.

From May 21 until the end of September, these additional cars will carry up to 36 bikes each, more than the two to four that are currently allowed. Gary McNeil, GO Transit director, hopes that this service will encourage people in Toronto to visit the Niagara Falls tourist area more often. It could have an environmental impact by keeping a few extra cars off the road if their drivers opt for the train.

GO Transit and Bombardier worked together to design and adapt the new cars for cyclists at a cost of $100,000 each.
