A Tribute to Sgt. Pepper

Some contemporary artists are paying tribute to the disc Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band from the Beatles on its 40th birthday.

Oasis, Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs, Bryan Adams and The Magic Numbers are among the artists who will record songs from the disc.

The recording was directed by Geoff Emerick, who was the original engineer of the album in 1967.  Some of the same equipment from the Abbey Road studio will be used for the new recordings.

Bryan Adams told the BBC that the disc was one of the most influential records in music history.  He said, "Those songs that they have on that album are beautifully crafted, beautifully recorded and we’ll never get close to that."
