A Vaccine to Fight Against the Urge to Smoke

A new vaccine is about to help smokers beat the smoking cravings.

GSK Pharmaceutical laboratories in France, and Nabi Biopharmaceuticals of Maryland in The United States, are requesting approval to develop a vaccine against nicotine cravings.

As we know, millions of smokers try each year to quit for various reasons, but mainly to improve their health.  There are various methods proposed: inhalers, gum, patches, lasers, acupuncture, but another alternative might be available soon.

The vaccine called NicVAX helps smokers quit for good.  If they get permission to develop the vaccine in question, the two companies will precede with the project.  As with all vaccines, it is necessary to wait for the authorization to market before offering it to the general public.

It can not be stressed enough that smoking is the leading cause of many diseases including several cancers.  Still today, the list of cancers attributable to this illness increases. Until now, smoking has been associated with cancers of the mouth, oropharynx, nasopharynx, hypopharynx, esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, bladder, kidneys, ureter, bone marrow, the nose, paranasal sinuses, larynx, lung, cervical, colon, rectum and ovaries.  Not to mention all the other health problems linked to smoking.
