Accident on set of Transformers 3

A female extra is in critical condition after an accident on the set of new Transformers film.

Shooting has been halted on the set of the new Transformers film being shot in a Chicago suburb. An extra was seriously injured during a stunt scene Wednesday evening (September 1) and had to be airlifted to a local hospital.

Police issued a statement: "Preliminary investigation revealed that shortly before 7 pm, the movie crew was filming a stunt using numerous vehicles and drivers. During this stunt, an object struck a 2006 Toyota, hitting the vehicle, and then went through the windshield hitting the driver."

Another extra, Blaine Baker, told the ABC affiliate station in Chicago: "The vehicle was being towed by another vehicle. The cable between the two vehicles broke. It whipped around and sliced through the woman’s car and sliced through her skull, apparently."

The extra, 24-year old Gabriela Cedillo, underwent brain surgery and is in critical condition.

Transformers 3 stars Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Hugo Weaving. It is being directed by Michael Bay.
