Alicia Keys to co-produce Broadway play

The play Stick Fly will premiere this December in New York.

Since her first album, the Grammy award-winning Songs in A Minor debuted in 2001, American singer-songwriter Alicia Keys continues to add to her repertoire, reports MTV.

In addition to her successful music career, the 30-year-old artist has acted in movies and recently became a mother to son, Egypt, born last October. Now, she has announced that she will be co-producing the Broadway play Stick Fly, by American playwright Lydia R. Diamond.

"This is a story that everybody can relate to," Keys said in a statement announcing her participation in the venture. "I’m passionate about this play because it is so beautifully written and portrays Black America in a way that we don’t often get to see in entertainment. I know it will touch all audiences, who will find a piece of themselves somewhere inside this house."

Casting has not yet been announced for the Broadway production of the play, which has won a number of awards since its Chicago premiere in 2006.

Keys will soon be hitting the road with a mini-tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her debut album Songs in A Minor, which was just reissued as a special anniversary edition yesterday (June 28).
