According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ferrera will play the role of Mona Gray in the film An Invisible Sign of My Own.
Based on Aimee Bender’s novel, Mona is a young loner who finds comfort in mathematics when her father becomes ill. In her adulthood, she becomes a math teacher who helps students overcome their struggles.
Marilyn Agrelo, whose first film was Mad Hot Ballroom, will be directing the drama. Michael Ellis and Pamela Falk (The Wedding Planner) wrote the screenplay.
Ferrera can also be seen in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, which will be coming to theatres on August 8.
