Amnesty International Honours U2
The four members of the group were named Ambassadors of Conscience during a ceremony held in Santiago, Chile.
The Secretary General of Amnesty International Irene Khan explained, "They have inspired and empowered millions with their music and by speaking out on behalf of the poor, the powerless and the oppressed."
U2 was also commended for their work in the declaration of human rights around the world.
Other well known personalities that were named Ambassadors of Conscience included: First President of the Czech Republic, Vaclev Havel, and former President of Ireland, Mary Robinson.
