An ambitious project for Michael Jackson’s father

The King of Pop’s father wants to build a tourist complex dedicated to the Jackson family.

It’s been almost a year since his son passed away. Now Joe Jackson wants to build a tourist complex in the town of Gary, a Chicago suburb where the King of Pop was born.

Michael Jackson’s father wants to build a tourist complex dedicated to the Jackson family, a project worth $300 million US.

Joe Jackson appeared at a press conference yesterday (June 2). He revealed he is trying to fulfill one of his son’s wishes, to bring tourists to the town of Gary.

Michael Jackson visited his hometown for the last time in 2003 and shared his hope that an arts centre bearing his name would be built there one day.

His father is thinking bigger. His plan is for a project dedicated to the entire family. The complex would consist of two hotels, a conference centre, restaurants, shops, a golf course, apartments,  a rail stop and roadway, television and recording studios, a theatre, nightclubs, a museum, a concert hall, etc.

The mayor of this town in decline, Rudy Clay, approved the project which could very well save the poor region which is home to about 100,000 people.

The project is only in the planning stages and, if it does become a reality, would take several years to be built.

Michael Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009 in Los Angeles. He was 50 years old.
