Andrei Markov has never had an extravagant personality, but has always won the hearts of Montreal Canadiens fans.
The Russian played quarterback for the CH for 16 NHL seasons, all of them in the colors of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge.
After the 2016-2017 season, Markov joined AK Bars Kazan for two seasons, before joining Lokomotiv Yaroslavl for a final season in 2020.
He then coached HC Spartak Moscow for the 2022-2023 season, a position he was dismissed from last January.
He is now free as a bird, but there seems to be some interest in Markov.
Recently, Markov’s name has been linked to HC Torpedo in the KHL. He could join the group of coaches led by former NHL legend Igor Larionov.

HabsOnReddit ‘s Twitter page posted a Tweet regarding the news, giving his opinion on Andrei Markov’s departure from the CH in 2017. He’s still mad at Marc Bergevin for not re-signing him.
I always hated how Marc Bergevin treated Andrei Markov, a man who had given everything to the Habs for 16 seasons & was at 990 career NHL games with one team. MB proceeded to sign Karl Alzner for 5 fucking years π€¦ββοΈ
Habs fans will always remember Markov & try to forget Bergevin. https://t.co/E0JFJsQrg0

As a Tricolore fan since I was a kid, I must admit I didn’t understand Bergevin’s decision not to re-sign Markov, who was only 10 games away from the prestigious 1,000-game plateau. Not to mention the fact that he would have played them all in the same uniform.
Also, the Russian defenseman wouldn’t have commanded a very high salary, but Bergevin decided otherwise.
His idea was to sign veteran Karl Alzner to an atrocious contract, which was subsequently bought out. The CH is still paying $833,000 a year until the end of the 2023-2024 season.
A monumental error on the part of the former general manager of the Sainte-Flanelle, and one of the worst decisions of a GM’s career.
Markov would join a good group of coaches with Igor Larionov as head coach and should be successful, as Torpedo had a good season this year.
Former Canadiens and Laval Rocket Kenny Agostino is among the HC Torpedo players, as is Igor Larionov’s son with the same name as his sibling.
This would be a good addition for Torpedo, who could hire Markov as a defensemen coach or power-play specialist.
Nothing has been confirmed yet, but we’ll keep an eye on the situation.
