Variety reports that Fox 2000 has acquired the film rights to adapt the best-selling books by Patricia Cornwell, starring medical examiner Kay Scarpetta.
This adaptation is set to be developed for Angelina Jolie. The studio, producers and Jolie recently met to find screenwriters, and should be making their pick shortly.
There are now sixteen books written with Dr. Kay Scarpetta as the central character, so there is hope that a film franchise will materialize. However, the film will not bear the exact title as Cornwell’s novel. The Scarpetta thriller will be along the same lines as films, The Silence of the Lambs and Se7en.
Currently, Angelina Jolie is filming Salt, which opens in theatres on July 23, 2010.
