Annual AIDS fundraising T-shirt

Maison Martin Margiela has been donating portion of proceeds since 1994.

Just like every other year, since 1994 Maison Martin Margiela is launching a simple cotton T-shirt design to help raise funds for AIDS research, reports Vogue France.

As part of World AIDS Day on December 1, 2011, the Maison Martin Margiela will launch an exclusive limited edition T-shirt, with a portion of the profits donated to the AIDES, the leading French organization against AIDS.

The charity AIDS T-Shirt has been present in all Maison Martin Margiela collections since fall-winter 1994-95. Each season, the T-Shirt is designed in Paris using a different color to contrast the text.

The timeless design gives the 100 percent cotton garment a longevity that many other fundraising T-shirts do not seem to have. In addition to the seasonal English version, the company has decided to have a yearly edition in a different language for the World AIDS day, starting with Japanese.

The message has been translated from the English: “A T-shirt isn’t enough to beat AIDS, but at least it’s a good start.”

This fundraising shirt will be available in boutiques Maison Martin Margiela, as well as the brand’s online store for $75.

Martin Margiela is a low-profile Belgian fashion designer who has worked for Jean Paul Gaultier, and was creative director for Hermes. He eventually started his own label, which was sold to the Diesel brand in 2002.
