Australian newspaper The Courier Mail reports that young Australian model Gemma Ward has signed on to Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
After seducing the biggest designers in the world like Chanel, Valentino, Gucci, Versace and Alexander McQueen, the 23-year old will play a mermaid in the new adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow.
She joins French actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey who will also play a mermaid. This is only a small speaking role in the film that stars major Hollywood actors Johhny Depp, Penélope Cruz and Geoffrey Rush.
Shooting is already underway in Hawaii with Rob Marshall sitting in the director’s chair.
This is not Gemma Ward’s first movie role. She had a part in The Strangers and in the Australian drama The Black Balloon.
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides opens in theatres on May 20, 2011 in 2D and 3D.
