Hopkins organized a party for his birthday and New Year’s. He transformed a Welsh mansion close to his hometown of Port Talbot, into a Hollywood palace for the party. The party cost almost $400 000, and there were about one hundred guests present.
Hopkins told his guests, "This cost me so much I’ll have to make another film to pay for it!"
The actor was moved when he saw friends that he had not seen in 65 years.
