Anthony Hopkins will be an evil sorcerer

Anthony Hopkins joins the cast of Arabian Nights.

After filming Thor with Chris Hemsworth, it looks like Anthony Hopkins will now move on to work with that actor’s brother, Liam Hemsworth. They are set to star in Arabian Nights, directed by Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King, Eraser).

Arabian Nights follow a young commander (Hemsworth) whose king is assassinated during a coup. He unites the forces of Sinbad, Ali Baba, Aladdin and the Genie from the magic lamp in order to save Scheherazade.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hopkins is set to play Pharotu, "an evil sorcerer who killed Sinbad’s love, a mermaid, and is looking to amass more magic for himself."

Filming begins at the end of the summer. Chuck Russell co-wrote the script with Barry P. Ambrose.

In the meantime, Anthony Hopkins stars in Woody Allen’s next film. You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger hit theatres on September 23. Thor, starring Hopkins and Chris Hemsworth, will be released on May 6, 2011.
