Armani celebrates 30th anniversary with pop makeover

Limited edition eyewear collection will form basis of colorful customer mosaic.

Italian fashion house Emporio Armani is celebrating its 30th anniversary with the launch of a special limited edition eyewear collection for men and women, reports Vogue.

The line will include only two models: an oversized, rounded version for women, and an ultra-flat teardrop design for men. Each pair is sold in a translucent case and is marked with a special logo to commemorate the label’s anniversary.

Through the official Armani website these two models can be customized with a choice of six colors for the lenses and stems – which can be colored differently – and a choice of two logos. Only 1,030 customizable pairs will be sold, and a counter on the website illustrates how many remain.

"The cutting-edge eyewear collection gives itself a pop makeover to celebrate its thirtieth birthday," explains the brand website. "Two iconic frames, for him and for her, meet the latest technology 2.0 to give fans of the brand an innovative shopping experience. Only the first 1030 purchasers will be able to create their own made-to-measure glasses, and become the stars of an exclusive initiative."

The brand is also inviting customers to send in a photograph of themselves wearing their customized shades. These images will be collected into a work of art containing all 1,030 faces in a colorful mosaic, created by Pam Glew, a British artist who specializes in portraiture. Customers will be given a personal code which they can use to request a copy of their own portrait by Glew.
