Director Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) is in talks with 20th Century Fox to direct the latest X-Men film, Wolverine 2, according to comingsoon.net.
Aronofsky would be reuniting with his The Fountain star, Hugh Jackman, with screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, upcoming The Tourist).
The film is reported to be a Wolverine-meets-girl love story, but with all the twists and turns requisite for an action flick: forbidden romance with Japanese girl who is betrothed to another, plus family battles with her samurai-wielding brothers. Sounds like Kill Bill meets Wolverine.
Aronofsky, 41, lives in Manhattan with partner Rachel Weisz, with their 4-year-old son, Henry. His latest film, Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman, is set for limited release on December 3.
