Audrey Hepburn’s Iconic Dresses Hit Auction

Selected pieces of Audrey Hepburn’s clothing were put up for sale recently.

Hepburn solidified her fashion icon status on Tuesday (December 8), when 40 pieces of her wardrobe were sold for a total of 435 180 US dollars during a London auction, reports People.

The hottest item of the night was her Givenchy Chantilly dress, which sold for $97 270. The actress wore the dress during her 1966 film, How to Steal a Million.

Also sold through the auction was her ivory satin wedding dress, which was made for her while she was filming Roman Holiday, at the time she was planning to marry James Hanson of Britain.

After the wedding plans were called off, Hepburn asked the designers to give the dress to the “most beautiful, poor Italian girl you can find.” The gown, designed by the Fontana sisters, was given to Amabile Altobelle, who wore the dress to her wedding before donating it to the auction.

According to Kerry Taylor, who organized the event, the total amount earned from the auction doubled the estimated amount.

A portion of the funds raised from the auction will be given to the Audrey Hepburn Children’s Fund.
