Amal Clooney asks the UN to defend Ukraine

Amal Clooney has joined the international legal working group urging UN member countries to fight for Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion.

The wife of actor George Clooney is a renowned international human rights lawyer.Yesterday, she went to the UN in New York to plead the Ukrainian cause.

Amal Clooney denounced the war crimes committed by Vladimir Putin ‘s regime in Ukraine, calling the Russian invasion “aggressive and outrageous”. The lawyer implored the UN to fight for justice and to hold accountable the perpetrators of these crimes.

The lawyer said at the informal meeting of the UN Security Council that Ukraine is now a “slaughterhouse in the heart of Europe”.

Amal Clooney, who is part of an international legal working group advising Ukraine on how to ensure accountability for Ukrainian victims in domestic courts, wants to ensure that evidence of war crimes committed in Ukraine does not remain shelved – as it does for victims of Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists in Iraq and Syria.

Addressing the gathering, the lawyer “fears that you (the UN) will be busy and distracted and that every day the coverage of the war will be a little less and people will become a little more insensitive to the war.”

“And that Ukraine is left alone to prosecute the perpetrators of these atrocities. We can’t let that happen,” the lawyer said.

Amal Clooney recalled that Russian troops have been accused of raping women and girls in the streets, torturing and killing civilians. She also pointed out that Putin’s forces bombed a theater in the southern city of Mariupol, where hundreds of civilians, including children, had taken refuge.

Tiger Woods to compete in PGA Championship

Tiger Woods is preparing for another major tournament, the 2022 PGA Championship.

Earlier this month, the 15-time career major champion surprised many observers by playing in the Masters , the first major of the season. Although he did not win the tournament, his presence alone was an accomplishment in itself.

Remember that in February 2021, Tiger Woods suffered a serious car accident that nearly cost him a leg. Very few people gave him the slightest chance of ever playing golf again.

But now Tiger has announced his presence for the second major of the year!

Tiger Woods officially registered earlier this week for next month’s PGA Championship.

Earlier (April 28), the champion’s plane landed in Tulsa, Oklahoma. According to the New York Post, Tiger Woods then traveled to Southern Hills, the course that will host the competition from May 19-22 .

The news will delight the golfer’s many fans, as after the last Masters earlier this month, Tiger Woods said he planned to play the British Open at St. Andrew’s in July, but didn’t know if he would be able to compete in the PGA Championship.

Tiger Woods has won the PGA Championship four times, most recently in 2007 when the tournament was last held at Southern Hills.

A documentary on Marilyn Monroe raises doubts

Netflix has just released a documentary on Marilyn Monroe that raises doubts about the final hours of the Hollywood star.

On August 5, 1962, Marilyn Monroe was found dead in her bed at her home in Brentwood, California, with her hand on her phone.

Since that day, several theories tried to explain the the reasons that led to the death of this icon of American cinema.

According to the Los Angeles police who were called to the scene, the death of the starlet was “probably accidental“. The coroner ‘s office, which examined the scene, concluded that it was a “probable suicide“. These two findings leave room for interpretation, and many people still wonder about the real circumstances.

The table is thus set for the Netflix documentary The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes.

It is common knowledge that Marilyn Monroe had a relationship with the Kennedy clan. John F. was the occupant of the White House at the time, while his brother Robert was a prominent Senator. In addition to the Kennedys, the actress had known ties to the mafia.

Because of these unusual acquaintances, Marilyn Monroe’s death raises questions. Was she murdered or did she die by her own hand, as the authorities thought? Was there a cover-up?

Based on the best-selling book by investigative journalist Anthony Summers, the documentary features never-before-seen recordings of interviews with those who knew her well. For the author, several questions remain.

“What I learned was information that completely changed what we thought we knew about her mysterious death”, Summers says in the documentary.

“And that suggests that the circumstances of his death were covered up.”

The documentary’s director, Emma Cooper, told People magazine her impressions of the novel that inspired the film.

“The final acts of the film are incredibly exciting. It’s an investigation where everything we thought we knew isn’t really correct.”

Viewers will hear an interview with the owner of the ambulance company that transported the actress’ body confirming that on the evening of Saturday, August 4, 1962, Monroe was rushed to a local hospital barely alive. Would she have died earlier than announced, and if so, who had interest to hide this death?

The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes raises many questions.

It has just been released on Netflix.

Netflix continues to present more and more documentaries on celebrities. In addition to Marilyn Monroe, Jennifer Lopez will be featured next June, while Pamela Anderson will also soon have her documentary.

The oldest woman in the world is French

At 118, a nun named Sister André has become the world’s oldest living person, according to Guinness World Records.

With the death on April 19 of Kane Tanaka, a Japanese woman previously certified as the world’s oldest person, Sister André now takes the title.

Born as Lucile Randon on February 11, 1904, Sister André lives peacefully in a nursing home in Toulon, southern France. At her venerable age, the now blind woman has had many adventures in her life. Most recently, she survived COVID-19 at the age of 116!

Sister André devoted most of her life to religious service. Before becoming a Catholic nun, she cared for children during World War II and then spent 28 years caring for orphans and the elderly in a hospital.

Over the years, she has outlived 18 French presidents and 10 popes.

In an interview with RMC, the oldest person in the world seemed to have mixed feelings about becoming the new oldest living person.

“I have a feeling I’d be better off in heaven, but the good Lord doesn’t want me yet,” she said, calling the title a “sad honor.”

Is there a secret to her longevity?

Sister André loves chocolate and wine and drinks a glass every day.
