Will Smith banned from the Oscars for the next ten years

Less than two weeks after the 2022 Oscars ceremony where Will Smith slapped Chris Rock in the face, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced its decision.

Will Smith is banned from the Oscars for the next ten years.

The Academy issued its decision via a statement.

“The 94th Academy Awards were meant to be a celebration of many people who have done incredible work over the past year; however, those moments were overshadowed by the unacceptable and damaging behavior Mr. Smith displayed on stage. During our program, we did not adequately address the situation in the room. We apologize for that. This was our opportunity to set an example for our guests, our viewers, and the Academy family around the world, and we did not rise to the occasion – unprepared for what was unprecedented”, explains the letter signed by Academy President David Rubin, and Executive Director Dawn Hudson.

“Today, the Board of Governors met to discuss how best to respond to Will Smith’s actions at the Oscars, in addition to accepting his resignation. The Board decided that, for a period of 10 years beginning April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith will not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including, but not limited to, the Academy Awards ceremony.”

The letter goes on to support Chris Rock.

“We want to express our deep appreciation to Mr. Rock for keeping his cool under extraordinary circumstances. We also want to thank our hosts, nominees, presenters and award winners for their composure and elegance during our broadcast. The action we are taking today in response to Will Smith’s behavior is one step toward a broader goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests and restoring trust in the Academy. We also hope that this action can mark the beginning of a period of healing and restoration for everyone involved and affected.”

Tourists, including a Canadian, fly to the space station

SpaceX will send four space travelers, including one Canadian, to the International Space Station (ISS) this Friday (April 8) for a 10-day stay.

The AX-1 mission will launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at around 11:15 a.m. with Michael Lopez-Alegría, a commander and former NASA astronaut who has been in space four times. He will be accompanied by three tourists, Canadian Mark Pathy – resident of Mavrik Corp. and chairman of Stingray Group, and Israeli businessman Eytan Stibbe and American Larry Connor.

This is not the first time tourists have visited ISS. In 2009, the then boss of Cirque du Soleil Guy Laliberté made such a trip. But at that time, it was the Russians who transported the traveler on a Soyuz rocket. This time, the company is totally American.

Such a trip aboard a SpaceX Falcon rocket and ISS is not for everyone. It would cost $50 million (US) for each traveler to reserve a seat.

This fee may seem and is exorbitant, but you have to understand the costs associated with such a trip to understand the hefty bill that comes with it. NASA explains that it costs $2000 per day per person for food. To that, you have to add the cost of transporting supplies , which amounts to between $88,000 and $164,000 per day per person. NASA adds 5.2 million per visitor for the supervision that the astronauts provide on board the space station and NASA ‘s fees amount to $4.8 million (US). The rest of the bill is split into profits for the trip organizers.

This trip marks the second SpaceX tourist trip to space. The first time, last September, the travelers did not go to the ISS. Instead, they continued their journey beyond the space station, 575 km from Earth.

Pink Floyd release a single to support Ukraine

Pink Floyd is releasing a new single. For the English group, it is a war effort to help Ukraine.

David Gilmour, drummer Nick Mason, bassist Guy Pratt and composer Nitin Sawhney launch the song Hey Hey Rise Up. Proceeds from the sale of the record will be donated to a fund specially created for Ukraine by theUnited Nations Refugee Agency.

The new song was inspired to David Gilmour by the atrocities committed by the Russians to the Ukrainian people and their bravery against the invader.

In an interview with The Guardian, the singer and guitarist said he was inspired by the Ukrainian musician Andriy Khlyvnyuk of the band BoomBox. Khlyvnyuk left his band in February to join the Ukraine, while his band was on tour in the United States.

“I feel like it was important for us to do something too. It’s really hard and frustrating to see what’s going on, to see these unjustified attacks by a world power against an independent, democratic, peace-loving nation,” the singer explained.

As a protest to the conflict in Europe, Pink Floyd has already removed all its songs from the music platforms of Russia and Belarus for several weeks. But the band wanted to do even more.

The song Hey Hey Rise Upis now available for download.

The DeLorean will rise from the ashes

The DeLorean brand will unveil a new electric sports car this August, 40 years after the arrival of the DMC-12 cult movie car.

Everyone remembers the spectacular car starring in the movie series Back to the Futurestarring Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Dr. Emmett Brown. Designed in aluminum with a rear engine and doors shaped like airplane wings, the DMC-12 has made history.

Back to the Future – MCA

The DeLorean Motor Company is about to rise from the ashes and present its new creation at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California. It is on August 18th that the new car of the Texan brand will be unveiled.

DeLorean Motor Company

This time, the new DeLorean will be an electric sports car. Like the DCM-12, the new car was designed by Italdesign.

The use of an electric drive should allow the new DeLorean to have an engine worthy of the name. Forty years ago, the DMC-12 was criticized because its engine, a 2.85-liter V6, was not powerful enough to move the heavy car. This resulted in a 0-100 km/h time of 10 seconds, far behind other sports cars on the market.

The DMC-12 was built from 1981 to 1982. Only 9,000 cars were assembled before the brand went bankrupt in October 1982.
