Ivan Demidov has no fractures

Yesterday, the Canadiens had a good game, winning 5-0. One of the negative points of yesterday’s game was Nick Cousins’ stick hit on Ivan Demidov. Today, we were waiting for news on the Russian’s state of health. He was reportedly seen on the golf course andcould practice tomorrow. In the last few minutes, we learned via TVA Sports that Demidov does not have a fracture. This is encouraging news with a week to go before the start of the season, and

It was a rather unsightly gesture by Cousins, who was in fact punished by the NHL earlier today. On Saturday, the Russian is not expected to play, 100% or not. He has nothing left to prove, and I think sending him into the fray would be unwise… [content-ads] Especially considering that the Sens have recalled several players from their club-school. It’s likely to be a fairly flat game between two teams of support players. This will be Montreal’s last preparatory game before the season begins on October 8 in Toronto. Now that the updates on Noah Dobson and Demidov ‘s health are positive, we’re hoping the same for Kaiden Guhle and David Reinbacher. [spacer title=’Overtime’] – Yes.

– A must-listen.

– Patrik Laine, one forward too many?

– Yankees strike early.

– It’s going to be tough.

NHL brawls: Sports Minister invites fans to show their displeasure

For those who missed yesterday’s Canadiens-Sénateurs match in Quebec City, you missed quite a game: a game won by the Canadiens 5-0, but also a game marked by injuries and fights. On the heels of this high-profile warm-up game, Sports Minister Isabelle Charest voiced her dissatisfaction with the fights. According to her, they have no place in professional hockey.

Charest doesn’t have the power to change things since it’s a professional sport, but she did have a say in eliminating fighting in the QMJHL. She may not have the power to change things for the NHL, but she has a bigger reach than most.

I don’t believe in fighting in hockey.

Isabelle Charest

[content-ads] Yesterday, there were four fights and they were big ones, apart from that. I think fights are good for the show and for creating jobs. Obviously, it’s not like in the early 2000s when some guys were strictly there to throw down the gloves, but there are players who check, play tough and fight for a living. We have to respect that. I understand the point of people who don’t want to see fights in the NHL anymore, but, unfortunately for them, they’re here to stay.

[

– Pierre LeBrun also doesn’t believe Connor McDavid will sign for more money than Kirill Kaprizov.

– Speak of the devil.

– Evgeny Kuznetsov returns to the KHL.

– At a place that’s not hitable, too.

😱

– The series is tied.

David Reinbacher is in Laval (and Pascal Vincent has a plan for him)

David Reinbacher is sidelined. He can’t play at the moment, having suffered a fractured metacarpal bone last week against the Toronto Leafs. What’s the plan going forward? Remember, he’s expected to miss four weeks of activity… butthere’s a world out there in which he can miss more action too. What we do know, for now, is that Reinbacher is in Laval. The Rocket’s practice camp kicked off yesterday, and Reinbacher is in the team’s entourage. And we also know that Pascal Vincent has a physical and mental plan for the defenseman for the coming weeks. I imagine they’d like to keep him involved with the club… and that the organization would like to see him progress in his off-ice practices too.

[content-ads] What’s next looks… interesting. Reinbacher is likely to have a big role in his return to action and could also be the Rocket’s #1 defenseman. It would be a great opportunity for him to make his mark and show management that he can help the Canadiens in the long term on the ice. But… what’s worrying in a way is knowing that he’s still injured. He hasn’t been lucky in the last two years, and he hasn’t had the chance to showcase his talent the way he would have liked to, which is a shame for him. We know the potential is there, and we know he’s talented too. You only have to see him play games to understand it… but that hasn’t always been the case since the start of the 24-25 season. And if Pascal Vincent’s plan (I’d be curious to know what it is) can help him at certain levels, it’ll already be a good step forward.[spacer title=’Overtime’] – Oh.

– Hello, boys!

– Nice contest.

– Good deal.

– It was a good game.

Sense: Eight players recalled from Belleville to protect regulars

The Ottawa Senators have two games left before the official start of their season: tomorrow against the St. Louis Blues, and Saturday night in Montreal against the Canadiens. Will we see a rematch of yesterday’s game at the Bell Centre on Saturday? At the moment, that’s the question on many fans’ lips… But clearly, the Senators aren’t interested in seeing their star players shuffled around – either tomorrow or Saturday. Because the fact is, the club has recalled eight players (!) from Belleville, and it’s logical to believe that these guys could play Saturday night in Montreal. The Senators played dirty last night, they got humiliated… and now the solution is to bring in some AHL guys to play even dirtier on Saturday? Eh boy…

[content-ads] Considering that these players will be in uniform, it could be a lot of shuffling.

The Sens clearly know that the Canadiens players are going to want to bring a physical game to the ice, and by recalling players who won’t be playing in the NHL this season, they seem to really want to protect their regulars. And the Senators are sending out a pretty clear message too: you can shuffle us around… but we’re going to have less important players to shuffle you around too. That’s promising, in any case. Because if there’s as much emotion on the ice as there was last night in Saturday’s game, it could get out of hand pretty easily too. The Habs’ plan was to have a full line-up, and they’ll have to be careful not to fall into the trap and let things get out of hand. Let’s just hope it doesn’t turn into a nightmare… and wonder whether the Canadiens will decide to do as the Sens did and protect their star players.

[spacer title=’Overtime’] – Good deal.

– He’s got the tools to make it happen

– Can’t wait to see him in action.

Ivan Demidov could take part in tomorrow’s practice session

Good news: according to Bluesky’s Luc Gélinas, there’s more fear than harm regarding Ivan Demidov. The Habs forward, who didn’t finish yesterday’s game against the Sens, isn’t expected to miss any games. Ah, and he might even take part in tomorrow’s practice in Quebec City. Elliotte Friedman said there was no reason to worry about Demidov in the long term, and Luc Gélinas’ information confirms the Sportsnet tipster’s statement.

So much the better, honestly. Nick Cousins had a field day taking an axe directly to Demidov’s hands(the Sens player was fined) and on the footage, you can see how much pain the Russian was in. He was holding his hand and it looked really painful. But if he’s able to make tomorrow’s practice, as well as play Saturday against these same Senators, everyone in town – fans and the Habs organization alike – can breathe a sigh of relief.Losing Demidov, even in the short term, would have been a real shame…[content-ads]

Note that the Canadiens players are taking advantage of their day off today to play golf at the Faune golf course in Quebec City (the staff too, but not in the same place) and one of our readers saw Demidov teeing off with intensity. That’s good news too. Demidov may be better at hockey than golf… but at least he’s not injured:

We really could have believed the worst about the Canadiens’ forward, and to know that he’s doing relatively well in spite of everything is really positive. Because we know: the Habs will need Demidov to be successful this season… And we saw it last night, as the Russian had quite a game against the Ottawa Senators even though he didn’t finish the game. [spacer title=’Overtime’] – Yikes.

– The complete list of players on the ballot today:

– Nice.

– I love it.

Nick Cousins and Hayden Hodgson fined

Yesterday’s game between the Sens and the Canadiens left plenty of room for dangerous gestures, including Nick Cousins, who took an axe to the hands of Ivan Demidov… And Hayden Hodgson also got some bad press for hitting Alex Newhook in a rather dangerous manner. For those wondering: no, Cousins won’t be suspended… but he will have to pay a fine for his stupid gesture.Oh, and it’s also worth noting that it’s the same for Hayden Hodgson:

Jayden Struble is doing better than Cousins and Hodgson. The NHL has decided not to penalize the Canadiens defenseman for his gesture towards Jan Jenik. He’s doing well…

[content-ads] There was a lot of action last night, and we have to wonder if it’ll be the same on Saturday night at the Bell Centre. One thing’s for sure: yesterday’s game really showed that the rivalry between the two clubs exists, and that it can become even more intense. The two clubs don’t like each other very much, and this was clearly evident in the match in Quebec City. I have a feeling that the referees will be quite busy on Saturday in Montreal. Hehe.More details to come…

Noah Dobson is fine: he should play Saturday against the Senators

Noah Dobson didn’t take part in last night’s game against the Senators in Quebec City. He skated in the morning with the guys who weren’t going to play (Suzuki, Caufield, Slafkovsky, Blais, Guhle and Kahkonen) and looked relatively comfortable on the ice.

Reminder: Dobson was injured in the Habs’ crushing 7-2 loss to the Leafs last week.

The good news in all this? Today, the defenseman is feeling “extremely” well and seems ready to make his return to action. According to Anthony Martineau’s report on X, we should see #53 play on Saturday at the Bell Centre, when the Sens visit Montreal.

[content-ads] Let’s hope Saturday’s game doesn’t resemble yesterday’s. Several Senators players (hello, Nick Cousins) lost their minds and the result was rather… violent. And it even started to get dangerous at the end of the game because it looked like the Ottawa guys had only one goal in mind: to mess up the rink. Stützle had better sit tight if both Xhekaj are in uniform… hehe. That said, I wonder if Kaiden Guhle will be able to return to action on Saturday night. He was supposed to play last Thursday against the Leafs, but the Canadiens decided not to dress him because the defenseman had a groin injury. That would be nice… because with the season set to kick off in exactly one week’s time in Toronto, it would be ideal for the Canadiens to have a full line-up on Saturday to test things out and see how the club fares with all the guys in the line-up. To be continued, then. But for now, it’s interesting to know that the news about Dobson is good: [spacer title=’Overtime’] –

– Nice plateaus on the horizon for some NHL players.

– John Carlson wants to stay in Washington.

– Who will win the World Series?

The Canadiens are now worth over three billion dollars

The salary cap is rising in the NHL. It’s a sign that the league is healthy, and of necessity, it also means that teams are increasing in value. This is the case every year, but since the end of the pandemic, it’s been pretty obvious. And now, this morning, Sportico has released its classic ranking of the most valuable teams.

(Credit: Sportico)

What’s crazy is to note that the Canadiens have increased in value by 13% in one year. Last year, it wasn’t in the $3 billion club with the Maple Leafs and Rangers, but this year, with a value of $3.3 billion, it is. content-ads]In effect, the franchise has doubled in value in four years. After all, in 2021, the Montreal club was worth $1.58 billion. And now? $3.3 B. The Maple Leafs were $2 billion in 2021. And in 2025? 4.25. It’s really hard to believe that a city like the Nordiques, in today’s market, will be able to bring an NHL hockey club back to the Québécois capital. We already suspected it, you might say… but here’s more proof. Even the Blue Jackets, who are at the bottom of the ladder, are worth $1.3 billion. These amounts are a reminder of what a different planet sports is, and the contract of Kirill Kaprizov, who got $17 million a year even though he broke the 100-point barrier only once in his career, is a damn good example. spacer title=’Overtime’]- For those interested,

– It’s happening in the NHL.

– Interesting.

– Logique.

Luke Hughes contract: Lane Hutson now has a basis for negotiation

63 million: that’s how much the Devils will pay Luke Hughes over the next seven years. The Devils’ excellent defenseman, who was in a contract dispute with his club, has finally agreed on the terms of a contract worth $9 million a year. And right now, he’s earning more a year than his brothers… until Quinn breaks the bank in New Jersey, that is?

For a long time, Pat Brisson wanted a six-year deal, but the amount for the Devils and the player was just too different. But over seven years, it worked out better.

[content-ads]Of necessity, one wonders what this means for Lane Hutson, who will eventually be called upon to sign a big contract too. And like Hughes, his next contract will be signed for his third full season in the show. But there are differences (besides offensive production, guy size and all the elements on the ice) between the two guys. 1. Lane Hutson has one year left on his contract, and his (upcoming) deal won’t take effect until 2026. He’s had less of a chance to prove himself… but in 2026, the ceiling will go up again. 2. The Devils were managing a guy without a contract and the start of the season was coming up. There was a sense of urgency in New Jersey that doesn’t currently exist in Montreal.

But even so, the consensus is that Hutson will tell Kent Hughes that Luke Hughes earns $9 million and has averaged quite a few more points per season than Hutson.Hughes had 47 and 44 points from 2023 to 2025.If Hutson wants more money than his New Jersey counterpart, there’s probably a path to a golden bridge. But the question is, when would such a contract be signed? To be continued, then. [spacer title=’Overtime’]- A partial no-trade clause for Hughes.

– Indeed.

– Well done.

EXCLUSIVE! Ville de Montréal says no to England, France and the Netherlands

According to a number of reliable sources, CF Montreal was not only in talks with the French team to offer them the Nutrilait Centre and its facilities for the 2026 World Cup, but was also inserious talks with England and the Netherlands. The club – read Joey Saputo here – had set itself the goal of offering its facilities to a top nation during the World Cup, and was prepared to conclude at least one agreement. However, the City of Montreal was not prepared to cooperate, particularly in terms of transportation and logistics surrounding this three-week Montreal residency, even though it had been a great success with Real Madrid and Chelsea a few years ago… Unfortunately, according to information I received just a few hours ago, the project is now dead.

Harry Kane came close to settling in Montreal for three weeks in 2026. (Credit: Archives)

Reminder: Alexandre Pratt spoke earlier this week about the $600,000 the city would have had to spend on such a project.[content-ads]If I were Joey Saputo, I too would like to be able to count on better collaboration with the City of Montreal.Meanwhile, in Bologna, the mayor has given Joey the keys to the city… so much so that the City of Bologna is even talking about the possibility of staging Euro matches in 2032. We’re somewhere else, aren’t we?We lost the Expos and Nordiques many years ago – mainly due to government inaction – and we’re still mourning them today. We have an owner/family who has invested heavily in Québécois soccer – and hopes to do so for many years to come – so why not all sit down together and work more collaboratively, to make CF Montréal shine at the highest level? I asked myself that question this morning.
