Evgeni Malkin file: the Canadiens have asked about his availability

We all know that the Montreal Canadiens have a strong interest in Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, and we’d all like to see him come to Montreal and play second center alongside Ivan Demidov for a few seasons. It’s the dream option, but let’s just say that recently, there hasn’t been much to make us believe it, despite the fact that several rumors have suggested this possibility.

Still, it’s not impossible to see a deal being completed between the Habs and the Penguins, as Kent Hughes and Kyle Dubas have clearly already had discussions. However, it should be noted that this potential transaction could involve a player other than Crosby.

Indeed, we’ve just learned in the last few minutes that the Montreal Canadiens have also already inquired about the availability of Evgeni Malkin.

[content-ads] As James Murphy reports in his recent article for RG Media, the Habs have contacted the Penguins about Malkin, to find out if there would be a possibility of him being traded.

The other two teams mentioned in the article as having contacted the Penguins about Malkin are the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning, so the two Florida teams are once again interested in a Russian, and we know how much the Russians like to spend time in Florida. It’s nice to see the Canadiens in the same file as the Florida teams, considering that these are two teams aspiring to big honors.

Unfortunately, it’s a deal that didn’t come to fruition, as according to Murphy, Dubas was quick to close the door, given that neither Crosby nor Malkin asked to be traded. However, there’s no guarantee that one or both of these players will ask to be traded this season.

At 39, Malkin has just one season left on his contract, and with his recent comments suggesting he’d love to win another Stanley Cup, it’s safe to assume he’ll want to be traded at some point. Seeing Brad Marchand leave the Bruins and win the Cup with the Panthers really got Malkin thinking.

Note that if Malkin asks to be traded, he would cost less in a trade than Crosby given that he’s a year older, will be out of contract next season, and his performance has plummeted.

The Penguins’ performance will clearly dictate what happens next for Pittsburgh’s two stars, and if Crosby really isn’t a possibility, Malkin would be a great consolation for the Canadiens, who would be an excellent mentor for young Russian prodigy Ivan Demidov.

Having Malkin as a second center to back up Demidov would be really great for a season or two, so it’s something to keep an eye on. spacer title=’En Rafale’] – Who do you think it is?

– What a nice surprise!

– An unusual top-3.

According to Leon Draisaitl, Connor McDavid is ready to break all records this season

Although he won’t be a free agent until the end of the next campaign, Connor McDavid’s contractual situation has been the subject of much discussion this summer, with many agreeing that he should sign a long-term deal with the Oilers. The player himself recently even hinted that the possibility of not signing (no term) in Edmonton might be an option.

However, contract or not, McDavid has at least one more season to play with the Oilers as the club prepares for the upcoming campaign.

The team will be looking to return to the Stanley Cup Final for a third consecutive year, this time hoping to take top honours. To do so, Edmonton will need McDavid at the top of his game, as many believe that the organization has lost depth and has not solved the problem in front of the net.

But according to teammate Leon Draisaitl, who appeared on 32 Thoughts, the captain is in top form and more determined than ever.

[content-ads] McDavid has been practicing a lot this summer, more than last year, and he should have a very big year. Still according to Draisaitl, the Ontario native is scary and has fire in his eyes. Could McDavid beat his high of 64 goals and 153 points from 2022-23? And can not having a contract yet serve as extra motivation next season?

Because it’s pretty certain that his contract situation will quickly become a distraction for the Oilers, but if McDavid has an incredible season, it could be a blessing in disguise. If the forward can beat his own mark, he’ll really break the bank (even more) in his next contract, whether in Edmonton or elsewhere.

In short, if the Oilers want to get back to the finals, they’ll need McDavid and Draisaitl to be in top form and at the top of their game. spacer title=’En rafale’] – Als. win

– Far from a deal?

– A night to forget.

– Throwback.

After the captain, Brendan Gallagher also speaks French

Yesterday, Nick Suzuki gave his first interview in French with Félix Séguin , which you can see on TVA Sports. The Canadiens’ captain answered a few questions from the journalist in clear, well-expressed French, which shows that he already has a grasp of the language. But what’s most impressive is that Suzuki did most of his learning on his own, having first taken a course inhigh school.

It’s a nice gift for fans who haven’t had a captain who spoke Michel Tremblay’s language for over 25 years. Suzuki isn’t the only Canadiens player learning French, however. Brendan Gallagher, who was on 98.5 FM, spoke a few words in our language:

“Hi, this is Brendan Gallagher of the Montreal Canadiens and you’re listening to Bonsoir les sportifs with Jérémie Rainville.”

A post shared by 98,5FM Sports (@985fmsports)

[content-ads] If Gally is less loquacious than his captain, he pronounces very well and still seems comfortable with French. In fact, he speaks it well enough for it to be a subject of mockery by his spouse, who says his Frenchsucks. Remember that the CH forward married Québécois Emma Fortin in 2024, so he’s probably had a few opportunities to learn and practice French.

The couple also had their first child in February, and perhaps Gally is taking the opportunity to learn a little French vocabulary with the baby. Personally, I think it’s really nice to see players making the effort to learn the Quebec language, not least because it shows that the players enjoy being part of the Canadiens, the city and our culture.

I would never insist that a Habs player, even the captain, learn French, but like many fans, I really appreciate the effort of those who do. It’s all the more commendable because learning a new language is not only difficult, it’s very intimidating, especially when you’re surrounded by people for whom it’s their mother tongue. And in the case of Europeans, who almost all have to learn English before coming to play in North America, French becomes a third language to master.

In short, even if Martin St-Louis is still a long way from being able to coach the Canadiens in his mother tongue, Suzuki and Gallagher will have the opportunity to practice their French with at least four Québécois on the team this year. spacer title=’Overtime’] – He’s got a lot to prove.

Tyler Toffoli has led some Sharks players to believe that Carey Price will return to the game

Just about everyone knows that Carey Price will not be returning to the NHL. It seemed like a no-brainer, but I guess not everyone knew. We also know in Montreal that Tyler Toffoli likes a good laugh, and he doesn’t miss a chance to (amicably) poke fun at his teammates. The San Jose Sharks have a very young team, and some of these young players seem to be a little too naive.

According to San Jose Sharks defenseman Vincent Desharnais, Toffoli led some of the Sharks’ young players to believe that Price would be back in the game. And a few of them took the bait, like hungry trout.

🏒

Really? I honestly thought it was general knowledge.content-ads]Anyway, the giant Desharnais thought it was pretty funny when asked if he’d “heard the news”. When one of the youngsters asked him that, he played along, trying hard not to laugh in front of him as he affirmed what he was saying. When Toffoli noticed that some people believed him, he decided to add even more by saying that his wife had spoken to Price’s wife.

Before throwing the line in the water, Toffoli made sure to go and see the club’s two goalkeepers to tell them that it wasn’t true and that they had nothing to fear. During the interview, Pascal Leclaire, who was at Maxim Lapierre’s side for this episode, said that the players were more likely to go fishing with Price than to practice with him. A little laughter is always pleasant and lifts the mood. Especially in a club that’s in the midst of rebuilding, the players, especially the younger ones, should at least have fun playing. It’s a great confidence booster and keeps the mind healthy.[spacer title=’Overtime’] – He’s not too stressed.

– He’s got what it takes to have a great career in major junior.

– It’s really tough these days for the Alouettes.

– What could be worse than starting the game with an interception…

Rasmus Dahlin’s fiancée nearly died this summer

This summer, Rasmus Dahlin took advantage of his vacation to visit France with his fiancée, but his trip almost turned into a nightmare too. His fiancée, Carolina, became ill during the trip, and subsequently suffered severe heart failure. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was given several times to keep her alive… and after several weeks in hospital, she had to have a heart transplant. What a story…

The good news in all this? Today, the defenseman’s fiancée is doing better. In a lengthy message published by the Sabres, Dahlin says she’s continuing her rehab and will join him in Buffalo when she’s ready to do so.

She has shown incredible determination, courage, positive attitude and tenacity that impresses me. It was undoubtedly the most difficult chapter of our lives, but we learned a lot from it.

Rasmus Dahlin

Wow.

[content-ads] Honestly, it almost made for a horror story. These things are serious and it shows one thing: no one is immune to a health problem in life. It can happen at any time, and it can go off the rails pretty quickly too. That’s why, in the message in question, Dahlin wants to remind us that it’s important to live life to the full. He wanted to thank the medical staff involved in the story, the NHL and the Sabres organization for all the support he’s received in recent months… and he also reminded us that at times like these, sport isn’t important. So much the better, that said, if his fiancée is doing well today.

– I like it.

– This is going to be good.

Evgeni Malkin says it: he’s thinking of leaving the Penguins to win the Stanley Cup

How badly do the Penguins want Sidney Crosby to ask them to leave? That’s the question on the table right now. We’ll agree that if Evgeni Malkin were to ask to leave, it couldn’t possibly have the effect of making Crosby want to stay in Pittsburgh more than ever.In other words? I don’t know if it would make a difference, but it can’t make the captain want to stay. And on that subject, the Russian was asked this morning about his intentions for the future. He began by saying that, ultimately, he could see himself staying in Pittsburgh, but he knows that this could be his last year (even if he’s still hesitating) in the NHL. He says he’s been thinking about Brad Marchand, who went on to win in Florida, and that his no-trade clause could be lifted.

[content-ads]So I repeat what I asked myself at the beginning of the text: how much would Malkin’s departure make Crosby want to lift the felts too? Because right now, everything’s looking good. The Penguins aren’t a point behind in the standings, Marc-André Fleury will be in town next week, etc. But what will it be like when the club inevitably gets off to an ugly start this season? When Crosby lines up to miss the playoffs again? These are big questions to ask, of course. spacer title=’Overtime’]- For Montreal CF fans,

– The Habs are tightly woven.

– Rasmus Dahlin’s fiancée had a near-death experience.

– If you speak French to Nick Suzuki, don’t speak too fast.

– Still.

– Alex Ovechkin is not 100%.

2-on-2 overtime this season in the NAHL

I’ve definitely made people happy in Laval, St-Hyacinthe, Rivière-du-Loup, Jonquière, Thetford Mines, St-Georges-de-Beauce, Québec and Sorel this week. And why? Because, for the second day in a row, the NAHL has been the subject of an article on DLC. Yesterday, it was Max Lapierre and the fact that he had sold all his shares in the St-Hyacinthe Bataillon to Guillaume Latendresse that made the headlines… Today, it’s a new rule that will come into force this season that’s worth reporting.

The NAHL will be breaking new ground this year. (Credit: Hugo Cotnoir)

What is this rule? Starting this season, the NHL will implement a new overtime system in the regular season. Beginning with the 2025-26 season, if a tie persists after the three regulation periods, overtime will be played according to the golden-goal rule and will now be divided into two segments:[content-ads]1. A first period of five (5) minutes at 3 against 3.2. If no team scores, a second period of five (5) minutes at 2 against 2 will be played. If the game is still tied despite overtime, a shootout will be held. What’s more, no player will be able to return the puck to his zone once the central red line has been crossed. This new system comes with two new elements: 2 v.2 and the impossibility of returning to your zone once in the opponent’s zone. How will switching to 2 v.2 instead of prioritizing shootouts be received by fans? Frankly, I wonder. At first, it might be intriguing, even exciting, but after a few weeks, I wonder if it’s a good idea. There’s plenty of room for 2 v. 2 on a full rink! content-ads]Still, if we don’t try it, we won’t know. Hats off to the NAHL for daring to try and change something that’s already in place. It takes a certain amount of courage to change the rules of a sport as old – and as conservative – as ice hockey. And don’t count on the NHL taking inspiration from the NAHL, unfortunately… although I’d be curious to see Ivan Demidov and Cole Caufield take on Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl! The preseason opens today with games in Jonquière and Laval. Can’t wait to see if either of these games will require 2-on-2 play..

If Nick Suzuki can speak French, Kirby Dach can be more serious

Let’s face it: Kirby Dach hasn’t had it easy over the past two years. After a first season in which many people wanted to see him become Nick Suzuki’s long-term winger, he has suffered not one, but two major knee injuries in the past 23 months. And yes, he confirmed that last February he re-tore his ACL,but what’s interesting is that his second injury had the effect of motivating him rather than discouraging him. From his interview with Eric Engels (Sportsnet), it’s clear that he’s understood how to maximize his rehabilitation period. Basically, he’s learned from his mistakes. #TantMieux

Basically, instead of just enjoying his summer 2025, he decided to really prioritize his body. This confirms what we thought: last year, he could have done more over the summer.Resting his legs, rehabbing, saying no to golf matches: Dach changed this year.

He was much stricter about things like his diet and sleep, and spent hours reading instead of partying.

Eric Engels, in his article on Kirby Dach

[content-ads]What’s also interesting is that the culture put in place by the Canadiens is really, increasingly, making its mark all over the place. Martin St-Louis gave Dach confidence, notably by confirming that he was the favorite for the second-center position. And what can we say about Nick Suzuki? The Canadiens’ captain is working with the heads of the organization to create a winning culture, which is ideal. That includes seeing a lot of the guys skate in Quebec during the summer… But it also includes speaking French. Honestly, I can’t believe the guys are watching the captain learn a new language and not feeling motivated.

Because what the captain has just confirmed is that Québécois and Habs fans in general want players who will go the extra mile for them. Suzuki understands this. And clearly, Dach, on another level, understands it too [spacer title=’en rafale’]- Please note:

– To be continued.

– Will they make the playoffs?

Preparatory game: Sidney Crosby won’t be at the Bell Centre next week

Sidney Crosby’s case refuses to die in Montreal, and in reality, I don’t think it can really die while he’s in Pittsburgh. Unless Kirby Dach suddenly becomes the player who was drafted third overall a few years ago. Even then…And any opportunity will do to tie Crosby to the Canadiens, as Renaud Lavoie discussed this morning with the man himself. And there’s something interesting to note: Crosby won’t be in Montreal next week (Monday) for the warm-up game between the Penguins and the Habs. The journalist confirmed this on the BPM Sports morning show, since Crosby told him he wouldn’t be there when he was asked about it in Vegas earlier this month.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dFcrtTtPaI Obviously, this isn’t a big surprise since the Penguins probably like to save their legend for home games at camp.It just makes more sense for a veteran at camp.[content-ads]However, we’ll take it from another angle. We’re going to take it and ask ourselves whether the Penguins shouldn’t ask the Penguins’ captain to go and experience the atmosphere at the Bell Centre. Why do we say that? Because Renaud Lavoie wondered how much Kyle Dubas and Pat Brisson wanted to push Sidney Crosby to ask for a trade, so that it wouldn’t come from management, but from him. You know as well as I do that Sidney Crosby, who loves the hockey atmosphere in Montreal, would be applauded EVERY TIME he touched the puck. It couldn’t hurt, could it?

If the Penguins wanted to put pressure on the issue, Crosby would be in Montreal next Monday. But obviously, the Penguins want to let time do its work… It looks like this. [spacer title=’en rafale’]- The former CH is injured.

Crave: Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton confronted Juraj Slafkovský at the end of the season

Last night, the final episode of the second season of La reconstruction was published on Crave. The episode focuses on the club’s (brief) playoff run… but also on the few days following the club’s elimination. And of the lot, we notably got a little access to the end-of-season meetings. Not only did we get to see the directors explain a bit about the purpose of all this, but we also got to see (part of) the interview between Juraj Slafkovský and his bosses towards the end of the episode. And it’s quite interesting to see the dynamic that emerges.Obviously, the subject of Slaf ‘s slow start to the season was touched on. And what we notice is that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton have confronted him on that level. The managers want to see him be more disciplined… and they let him know:

I know you want to perform, but you need discipline to do what’s necessary to reach 100% or even 95% of your potential.

Kent Hughes

[content-ads]Gorton, meanwhile, quizzed him on what’s kept him from having a big start to the campaign, and in Slaf‘s eyes, it’s a mental issue. The4 Nations break did him good, he says. Atone point, Gorton also confronts him about the way he deals with the media… and that’s interesting too: “

The way you vent after a bad game is to tell the media that you weren’t good today. And that won’t help you either.

Jeff Gorton

And Slaf agrees on this level: he admits he has to stop doing that. It makesyou wonder if we’ll see another Slafkovský in front of the media this year, as he’s never been afraid to speak his mind. It’s interesting to see the dynamic that exists between the player and management… and now we’ll have to see if, as he enters the first year of his big contract, Slaf will finally be able to put all the pieces of the puzzle in the right place.

Let’s see if his bosses’ words will whip him.[spacer title=’Overtime’]- Makes sense.

– Kirill Kaprizov finds he has “plenty of time” to sort out his contractual situation in Minnesota.

Bill Guerin tries to be reassuring.

– Logic.

– The Roses qualified for the playoffs.
