Yanick Bouchard taken off the air after upsetting a minister

On Wednesday, Tourism Minister Caroline Proulx gave everyone at the National Assembly a good laugh when she admitted that she had refused to financially support an event called Vulves et bulles.

“I can’t say that. I’m going to do Infoman.”Caroline Proulx

The segment in question made the Web – and TV – rounds yesterday..

And in the evening, while at her mother’s funeral, Caroline Proulx received this as a private message on Instagram:

“Two vulvas at the funeral.”

The message came from Yanick Bouchard, co-host of 5 à 7 on RDS and morning sports guy u 98,5 FM.

The CAQ minister tweeted at 6:02 this morning to call out Bouchard, demanding consequences and a public apology.

Bouchard is not on the air this morning; he has been replaced by Jérémie Rainville for the day. Nor has he made any public apologies at the time of writing.

Another crisis at Cogeco
This is the third crisis in as many months for 98.5, following those involving Jeremy Filosa and Louis Lacroix (who returned to the airwaves after a few weeks/months of suspension and reassignment).

Is this what awaits Yanick Bouchard?

Add to all this the crises involving MC Gilles and Pierre-Yves McSween, and you’ve got quite a few hot files on the bosses’ desks over the past year..

Instead of sending everyone to rehab, Cogeco might want to think about doing some in-house training on the use of social networks.

What was Yanick Bouchard thinking?
We’re all wondering this morning what Yanick Bouchard could have been thinking. No, people don’t believe the “a colleague took my phone and sent this joke to a mutual friend” excuse

I don’t know anyone who takes someone’s cell phone and makes that kind of joke in 2025. With a computer, maybe, but not with a mobile device. There are codes, easy recognition and so on.

I could be wrong, but I THINK rather that Yanick wanted to send this “joke” about Caroline Proulx to a friend or a group chat, but that he sent it to Caroline directly (thinking of her).

And that Caroline Proulx, being in mourning, didn’t see fit to settle it privately, despite Yanick Bouchard’s polite request in private. #AppelezMoiSVP

As much as I’m not a fan of private conversations that end up in public, I find it hard to excuse Yanick Bouchard’s lack of tact.

Will he be on RDS tonight?

Since it’s Friday and the weekend’s coming up, I think not. But then again, I could be wrong, you know.

It’s done: Oliver Kapanen will finish the season with the Rocket

We suspected that the plan was for Oliver Kapanen to join the Rocket after the Canadiens were eliminated. But at the same time, there was a scenario where he went to the World Championship.

But now a decision has been made.

According to Nicolas Cloutier, who spoke with the player’s agent, it’s done: the CH and the player’s clan have decided that the European will finish the season with the Laval Rocket.

In my eyes, it’s a good decision. After all, having spent the majority of the season in Europe, he’ll be able to continue playing in the North American system of the Habs organization.

So, in my opinion, he’ll learn even more.

Remember that he started and finished the season in Montreal, without breaking anything. And as he couldn’t play in Laval during the season, he went to Sweden, where he did well.

Right now, he’s running out of miles before he can play in the NHL full-time. That’s why seeing him play in the playoffs in Laval is a good thing in my eyes.

Note that only three CH players are eligible to finish the year down low: Kapanen and the two goalies who finished the season healthy, Jakub Dobes and Cayden Primeau.

For the time being, Jacob Fowler is expected to start in goal tonight. However, nothing has been confirmed.

My feeling? We’ll rest Cayden Primeau so we don’t send him to Cleveland unnecessarily. And when the Rocket return to Laval, he’ll be dressed and can take Luke Cavallin’s place.

What about Dobes? What will his role be?

– Same here.

– That didn’t take long.

– That would have been something.

– Interesting.

“Christian Dvorak is probably on his way out”

The CH season is over. The Habs players will meet the media in the next few minutes, and then it’s off to the next training camp.

While the players keep fit this summer, management will have a good challenge on its hands.

And what’s that? To build a team better equipped to face the Capitals of this world in the 2026 playoffs. Because yes, next year, the club won’t just want to be #InTheMix…

You know as well as I do that a few players are at the end of their contracts. Michael Pezzetta will be leaving (I don’t see him signing here again, at least) and David Savard will be retiring.

But what about the others?

Because of his new contract, Jake Evans isn’t going anywhere. But the same can’t necessarily be said for Joel Armia and Christian Dvorak, who will be free agents on July 1 if nothing changes.

Savard… Armia… Dvorak… that’s a lot of leadership to lose.

Is it impossible to think that Armia and/or Dvorak might stay? It’s safe to assume that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will talk to both guys’ agents, but won’t want to keep them at all costs.

And on that subject, Elliotte Friedman addressed Dvo’s case in his podcast(32 Thoughts) and had this to say:

Christian Dvorak is probably on his way out. – Elliotte Friedman

We suspect he might be, but his play at the end of the season and in the playoffs has made fans increasingly reluctant to see the third trio broken up.

Could Dvorak accept a bargain contract to stay in town with his friends? After all, Hughes isn’t going to overpay to keep him.

Even though he’s been unloved for years, Dvorak brings leadership and stabilizes the Habs’ center line. He takes on important defensive assignments for his coach.

With the CH already having to find a second center this summer, losing Dvorak would inevitably hurt the club. But giving him too much money would hurt too, that said.

Unless you think Alex Newhook can take Dvorak’s chair? Because it’s not Kirby Dach, Owen Beck or Michael Hage, in 2025-2026, who will replace Dvo.

To be continued.

in brief

– Reminder: management will speak on Monday, but players are emptying their lockers today.

– To be continued.

– Well done.

– Again?

– The picture is becoming clearer.

Series in brief: It’s officially over for Marc-André Fleury

Last night, four series could be completed.

You already know that the Maple Leafs got the job done and eliminated the Sens in six.

Here are the other results and highlights:

(Credit: NHL.com )

One last game for Marc-André Fleury

Marc-André Fleury may not have played in the playoffs, but with the Wild’s elimination in six against the Golden Knights, the Quebecer officially takes his leave.

This comes 24 hours after David Savard.

The crowd chanted his name during the handshake.

The Wild fought hard, even scoring in the last minute to close the gap, but Vegas was too strong. 3-2 victory.

Mark Stone scored the winning goal, which was the insurance goal at the time.

For the eighth consecutive playoff appearance, Minnesota is eliminated without even winning a round.

Yikes.

Change coming over there?

Vegas will face Edmonton in the next round, who also won, yesterday.

The second-round series is not yet on the schedule.

Kings eliminated by Oilers for fourth year in a row

Things started well for the Kings, who won the first two games.

But in the end, the Oilers won the next four games and, for the fourth year in a row, Edmonton eliminated Los Angeles. Ouch!

Connor McDavid’s team won the last game 6-4.

Four goals were scored before the seventh minute of play.

The Oilers’ attack is truly sensational, and they don’t even need Leon Draisaitl and McDavid to score goals.

None of the team’s last nine goals have been scored by the two superstars.

In front of the net, Calvin Pickard, too, is doing a fine job.

Four points in one period for Mikko Rantanen and Roope Hintz

The Stars-Avalanche series is very offensive.

It’s probably the best series since the series began. And it will conclude in seven games, because yesterday, the Avalanche tied the series with a 7-4 victory.

The winning goal was scored off the head of a defensive retreater. We’ve seen it all.

Dallas may have lost, but Mikko Rantanen has woken up in recent games.

In the second period, he and Roope Hintz scored four points each. They contributed to all four of his team’s goals.

But that wasn’t enough: Colorado also has a powerful offense.

This crazy series will come to an end on Saturday, in Dallas, starting at 8pm.

Extension

– A second-round series to make official.

  • Panthers vs Maple Leafs
  • Hurricanes vs Capitals
  • Oilers vs Golden Knights
  • Avalanche/Stars vs Jets/Blues
(Credit: NHL.com )

– His first is a big one.

– What a career!

– The Jets can eliminate the Blues tonight. In the event of a game number seven, it will be played on Sunday, in Winnipeg (7pm).

– Reminder: game number seven between Colorado and Dallas will be played Saturday, 8pm, in Texas.

Primeau and/or Dobes in Laval: the CH has yet to make a decision

Last night, the Rocket played their first playoff game in Cleveland, and it was Jacob Fowler in front of the net.

He looked good and should get his second start tomorrow night. Now, what will the CH organization do next?

As we know, Cayden Primeau and Jakub Dobes are eligible to return to Laval. We’re sure Primeau will return, but what about Dobes?

These questions were not answered by the Habs today, as no personnel changes were announced.

If Primeau returns to Laval, will he get his starting job back right away? Or will we want to leave the net to the goalie of the future in Jacob Fowler.

If the latter happens, it would be a frustrating situation for Primeau. After starting out in Montreal, he was traded to Laval, where he simply dominated. He was the best goaltender in the AHL, but had to come on in support of the big club when Montembeault got hurt.

He was the only healthy goalie in Laval eligible to help the CH.

That’s professional sports, unfortunately.

If I were in the shoes of CH management, I’d send Primeau to Laval, but I’d wait before giving him a start.

Wait for what? One or two of Fowler’s poor performances, if they come.

Primeau doesn’t seem to be part of the organization’s future plans, while Fowler is the goalie who should take the team to another level in a few years’ time, so the choice seems pretty straightforward.

Head coach Pascal Vincent may have a different opinion, as he wants to take his team as far as possible. Primeau has given him some very good field hockey this year.

In bursts

– He definitely could have helped New Jersey.

– The Stars can eliminate the Avalanche tonight.

– What a crazy game!

Miracle! Maple Leafs finish the job and eliminate the Senators

Miracle for the Toronto Maple Leafs!

After taking a 3-0 lead in the series, but especially after dropping the next two, they finished the job tonight by beating the Ottawa Senators 4-2.

And it was none other than Max Pacioretty who settled the debate late in the 3rd period with a superb shot.

This is only the second series the Maple Leafs have won since 2004, the last coming in 2023 when they eliminated the Tampa Bay Lightning.

However, it’s once again the Panthers who will be waiting for them in the second round. 2 years ago, the Panthers won the series in 5 games.

In the end, there will be some positive media coverage in Toronto, but it will be all downhill from here.

The Leafs had complete control of the game, but in true Leaf fashion, they squandered a 2-0 lead before finally prevailing.

Had the series had to travel to Toronto for a Game 7, I wouldn’t have put much stock in Toronto, who still can’t seem to find a way to win when it counts.

In gusto

– Vegas in the next round.

– What a career!

– Like Suzuki, he’ll come back stronger!

Nick Suzuki “was sitting at his locker with his head between his legs”

24 hours later, last night’s CH loss still has a bitter taste, especially after the team’s superb run to 2024-2025.

If there’s one person who has dragged this team since mid-season, it’s Nick Suzuki. Despite his young age and his high-pressure title of captain, he has more than delivered the goods.

Renaud Lavoie, who was in the team’s dressing room after yesterday’s game, spoke to JiC about the captain’s state of mind.

“In the dressing room, he was sitting at his locker with his head between his legs. He was deeply disappointed with the result. I’m not saying the other players weren’t disappointed, but the captain of the Habs, it came down to a solid defeat.” – Renaud Lavoie.

Sure, losing like that must have hurt, but as Martin St-Louis said, the joy that will come in the years to come will make us forget this difficult elimination.

If some criticized the captain’s 5-on-5 work during the series, it’s criticism that’s hard to understand. Suzuki can say mission accomplished.

He piloted the only productive trio and was a prime target for opponents. Was he as flamboyant as at the end of the season? No, but the context was very different.

Capitals coach Spencer Carbury put a lot of emphasis on the captain’s work during the series, both in front of the media and on the ice.

Suzuki will only grow from this experience and will be able to knock on Kent Hughes’ door this summer to ask for reinforcements.

After asking him to keep the team intact at the 4 Nations break, he can make another request, this time for a 2nd center.

If he’d had him this season, the CH could have competed even more and, who knows, even won the series. The games were so close, and the Habs’ lack of opportunism led to their downfall.

In a gust

– Always special.

– Good start for Laval yesterday.

– The Blue Jays are slowly waking up.

John Tortorella in New York (with Mike Sullivan): That’s the word on the street at the moment!

The Rangers are looking for a new coach.

And all indications are that Mike Sullivan will have the task of replacing Peter Laviolette behind the Blue Shirts’ bench.

Sullivan and the Rangers are reportedly close to agreeing on the terms of an expensive deal. Emily Kaplan (ESPN) even talks about one of the most lucrative coaching contracts in NHL history:

Ultimately, the Rangers seem to be on the verge of finding their new main man.

But there’s more to it than that, too.

And this news would have been a little hard to predict a few weeks ago…

What is it?

According to what’s circulating at the moment… John Tortorella could also be joining Mike Sullivan in the Rangers organization.

Torts and Sullivan know each other well, having worked together behind the bench for the US team at the 4 Nations Tournament.

And Torts also knows the organization because he was the Rangers’ driver for almost five years (season 08-09 through to season 12-13):

John Tortorella lost his job in the last few weeks in Philadelphia.

But Torts is also 66 and that’s why some didn’t see him returning to the NHL.

Clearly, it’s a possibility right now.

That said, at this stage of his career, maybe it’s what he needs too.

By being hired as an assistant, Tortorella wouldn’t have to constantly deal with the media and he’d have a different approach too.

He’s experienced, he’s already won the Stanley Cup (as has Sullivan, by the way) and maybe that would help the Rangers get back on track.

Because we know it’s been tough for many reasons this season in the Big Apple.

Adding Mike Sullivan and John Tortorella, two coaches who have proven themselves (en masse) in the NHL, I find it hard to believe that this is a bad idea.

Then again, things went all wrong in New York during the 24-25 season, and we need to find a group of coaches who can take the team to the very top.

And between the two of them, Torts and Sullivan have the CV to help that club.

Gossip

– I love it!

– Such a great moment!

– Wow 😂

Replacing David Savard, a truly underestimated priority in Montreal

David Savard played his last career game in the National Hockey League last night.

We saw him cry at the end of the game as he congratulated his teammates, and that’s normal.

He let his emotions out and it made for a beautiful moment on the ice.

The defenseman may only have played four years in Montreal, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t helped the organization.

On the contrary, in fact: Savard was useful because he played the way he was asked to play, and it was his role with the youngsters that enabled him to become a (very) important player in Montreal.

The CH will miss him…

The CH will miss him and that leads me to say this.

Kent Hughes will have to find a way to replace him (not just on the ice, off too)… and that absolutely has to be a priority on the GM’s table.

We’ll have to find an older player who can help the next generation and who can have an important voice like Savard’s in the dressing room.

Because losing a good veteran like him can hurt any club.

Savard has slowed down on the ice in recent years, and that’s no secret, but his off-ice role was so important to the Habs organization that sometimes we tend to forget about him.

Mike Matheson could technically fill that role… and Nick Suzuki is a good leader too. But Savard is different because he’s a Stanley Cup winner and has more experience than the other two.

All this to say that David Savard’s absence will really be felt if the Habs aren’t able to replace him properly.

And with the young players in place and those on the way, it would be a bad thing to go into next season without a David Savard 2.0.

In bursts

– Congratulations again.

– Good point.

– Who will win tonight between the Oilers and Kings?

– He’s human after all!

Jakub Dobes proves he can be good in the playoffs

During Game 3 of the Canadiens’ series against the Capitals, Samuel Montembeault was injured.

The Quebecer had to leave the game, visibly bothered by a lower-body injury.

The result? Jakub Dobes was given the mandate to replace him in front of the Tricolore net. And the 23-year-old goalkeeper didn’t do a bad job under the circumstances.

Of course, if you look at Dobes’ stats alone, you might think he’s been struggling. Because his numbers aren’t super-excellent on the face of it:

  • 1-2-0 record
  • 2.91 goals-against average
  • .881 efficiency rate(ouch)

But in reality, Dobes hasn’t looked bad in the Habs’ last two games.

He allowed six goals in two games… but he also made some really important saves.

Without him on Sunday… the Capitals would have killed the Habs.

And without him yesterday… the Capitals would have killed the Habs too.

Dobes clearly wasn’t perfect in front of his net.

But (and it’s a BIG but), Dobes proved he’s capable of keeping a cool head in important moments.

He proved he can play in the playoffs against a good team, and he proved he can keep his team in the game.

That’s got to be good for him… because he had a tougher time of it in the last third of the season.

Dobes’ performance also sent a clear message to the Habs organization. We know, after all, that Jacob Fowler is seen as the goalie of the future in Montreal. And we know that Monty has the #1 chair right now and is under contract until the end of the 26-27 season.

That said, I really don’t feel we should rule out Jakub Dobes either. We’re talking about an NHL goaltender who’s had some superb moments in his first season in the best field hockey league in the world, and if he’s capable of progressing even further, Habs management will have a decision to make.

Who knows: maybe he’ll be the one to chase Monty out of Montreal when Fowler is ready to make the jump to the NHL…

Gossip

– Bravo!

– It’s going to be a bumpy ride tonight.

– Absolutely.

– He can be proud of his record though.
