The Habs offered Lane Hutson an eight-year contract (and he turned it down)

Everyone’s talking about Lane Hutson’s contract right now, and it’s not new. The defender’s situation is getting a lot of attention because we’re wondering when it’s going to be resolved. And it seems we’re learning more every day about the situation. At least, we are. In an interview with Alexandre Tourigny(RDS), the informant mentioned that the Canadiens have been aggressive in the last two weeks to reach an agreement with the American. And LeBrun went on to say that the Habs made him an eight-year offer: “

The Canadiens tried pretty aggressively […] They offered him an eight-year contract… but obviously, that wasn’t accepted by Hutson.

Pierre LeBrun

We don’t know how much the Canadiens’ offer was for a year. But knowing that Lane turned down an eight-year deal knowing that he wants to stay here for the long haul is special (even if we don’t know the salary):[content-ads] We know that the defenseman wants to stay here for the long haul… but thathe’s not pushing for an eight-year contract either.

Likewise, the Canadiens want to sign him for as many years as possible, because they know how important he is to the team’s success. That said, you have to wonder if this whole situation could cause some distractions for the player on the ice.

The question that often comes up when we talk about the contract is the salary. There’s a world in which Hutson could earn less than Noah Dobson, who signed an eight-year deal at $9.5 million a season… even with the market exploding. But the Canadiens will have to work hard to make that happen too. It needs to convince Lane Hutson that he can help the team by accepting less money, as we saw with Connor McDavid in Edmonton earlier this week. At the same time, the defenseman has the arguments on his side to demand a big salary…

– Well done!

– Bravo.

– He’s right.

Kyrou on the habs rumours: “I’m glad nothing’s happened”

Although he’s never played for the Canadiens, Jordan Kyrou’s name was very popular in Montreal this summer, and there were a thousand and one rumours about him in the last few months, as the Blues seemed keen to trade him. In the end, nothing happened. And Kyrou says he’s glad nothing happened, at least according to Matthew DeFranks, who covers the team for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

[content-ads] At the beginning of July, colleague Maxime Truman revealed in a text that Kyrou had agreed to lift his no-trade clause to come and play in Montreal. Has he changed his mind since then? Or is he saying this because he wants to please the fans in St. Louis? Whatever it is, the main fact remains the same: inserting a player like Kyrou into the Canadiens line-up would have helped. The forward would have added some offensive punch to the team’s top-6, and would have added even more depth to Martin St-Louis’s roster. But the Blues probably had some really huge demands for the forward, and maybe that’s what stalled in the end too. We know that Kent Hughes loves his core and doesn’t want to gut the club to add a talented player… And the Blues, on the other hand, had every right to be greedy in their demands.Jordan Kyrou, after all, is a guy who has scored 35 goals and averaged 70 points over the past three years… [spacer title=’Overtime’] – Intriguing.

Fair enough.

– Schaefer wasn’t even born when Crosby was drafted in 2005!

– Too bad.

St-Louis comes to Dobson’s defense: “He played his best game since he’s been here”

So, did you like Noah Dobson’s game last night? Some will say yes, others will say no. His (very slack) defensive effort at an important moment prompted some to say he didn’t give enough for the team. His (very) soft defensive retreat at an important moment in the game prompts some to say that he didn’t give the team enough, but in the eyes of Martin St-Louis, there were far more positives than negatives in the defenseman’s game. And I say that because the CH pilot told Anthony Martineau that Dobson played his best game since he’s been here:

Watching yesterday’s game, one thing occurred to me: Dobson didn’t look like a very stressed guy on the ice. He’s often been criticized for being nonchalant on the ice since the start of his NHL career, and it’s true that at times, he doesn’t give the impression of giving it his all. But that’s Noah Dobson: he’ll never be the guy who’s the most involved and the guy who seems to give more than everyone else. And even if his game won’t go down in history, you can’t say he was bad by looking at a single sequence where he didn’t look as good.

[content-ads] Martin St-Louis isn’t afraid to say the real stuff. He’s already mentioned wanting to see more from certain guys since his arrival in Montreal, and he’s capable of saying what’s not going so well in one of his players’ games. At the same time, it would have been hard to say that Dobson wasn’t better than he was in his first two games with the Canadiens (which were played during the preseason).anyways, the season is young, and we shouldn’t base our conclusions on a single game – or a single appearance. That’s what happens, after all, when a guy earns $9.5 million a season… [spacer title=’Overtime’] – Of note,

– Could be.

– Yeah!

Noah Dobson: a very soft defensive retreat surfaces following yesterday’s game

Noah Dobson was criticized during the club’s training camp. The defenseman, who is not exactly known for putting in the most effort on the ice, didn’t give enough in the eyes of many observers. It’s true that he was injured, and it’s true that at camp, veterans sometimes give a little less. But yesterday, as far as I know, the season had started… and he did this at an important moment in the game.

Dobson is a good defender and yesterday, in general, I liked his game. You can’t take that away from him [content-ads]

However, it’s true that the eye test reminds us that sometimes, he doesn’t give enough. In particular, Gilbert Delorme didn’t like what he saw of the defender. Let’s just say that Dobson, despite his gentlemanly build that you say “you” to when you see him, doesn’t play as hard as Gilbert did…

This is going to be it, in the next few years. Dobson is going to be able to make a difference on the ice and eat up big, important minutes, but his involvement is going to be questioned more often than not. If he’s going to get it right, the positive is going to have to be quite a bit more blatant than the negative. [spacer title=’Overtime’]- News from CF Montreal.

If Evgeni Malkin goes to Florida, it could push Sidney Crosby to leave the Penguins

In recent weeks, Evgeni Malkin has opened the door to leaving the Penguins, basically saying that Brad Marchand’s decision (to move to Sunrise and win the Stanley Cup) has given him pause. It’s an avenue he could take, bearing in mind that he’s at the end of his contract. Then, after specifically naming the Florida Panthers (he owns a house there), Malkin saw the club’s first center injured. It’ll be hard for the Panthers to replace Aleksander Barkov, of course. But an Evgeni Malkin energized by a move away from Pittsburgh would be a good start. I’ve always thought that made sense – and I’m sure I’m not the only one.In fact, there are plenty of people in the NHL who think it’s an avenue the Penguins are fully considering right now… and I’m not surprised. This was reported on the Halford and Brough show by Greg Wyshynski.

[content-ads]Of course, if Evgeni Malkin were to raise his hand, it would give Sidney Crosby even more reason to consider finishing his career elsewhere.

If the Penguins were to trade Malkin to the Florida Panthers, Kent Hughes and many of his counterparts (including the one in Colorado) would undoubtedly want to put pressure on Pat Brisson to give up his client.

But for the Canadiens to be attractive, they’ll need to be well placed in the standings... [spacer title=’Overtime’]- Nice shot, indeed.

Fan pressure in Carolina: Michael McLeod signs long-term deal in Russia

A few weeks ago, Michael McLeod was thought to have a good chance of signing with the Carolina Hurricanes, but due to pressure from some Carolina fans, the Hurricanes backed off. And in the end, neither McLeod nor Carter Hart will sign there. Hart is headed for Vegas anyway. But then again, nothing is done.McLeod’s name hadn’t been circulated elsewhere in the NHL, and we wondered how much another club would want to take a chance on the player. But in the end, it seems no one wanted him. Why not?

[content-ads]Clearly, he must have felt no interest in the NHL to sign, right now, a contract for no less than three campaigns with the Omsk Avangard. If he’d had any hope, he would have kept a door open for himself. The more time passes, the more I get the feeling that Team Canada junior players who aren’t Carter Hart won’t be coming back to the NHL. I don’t think the others have the talent to make the negative comments surrounding their potential signing worthwhile, and when you see the way things are shaping up, you get the feeling that NHL teams feel the same way. Remember that Team Canada junior players can’t play in the NHL until December (they’re suspended until then), but they’re allowed to chat to teams in the meantime.

On October 15, potential contracts can be officially announced. [spacer title=’Overtime’]- Please note.

Correct” match: don’t rule out Arber Xhekaj in the stands tonight

Tonight, the Habs play in Detroit. It’s the second game in two nights, and we know that Jakub Dobes will play. There will be 17 “back-to-back” sequences this season, and we can expect both goalies to play in those games. But what if there aren’t? Offensively, it’s unlikely that Joe Veleno will play. Nobody deserves to be taken out of the lineup, and I can’t see the Québécois playing on the heels of his return to Detroit.Imagine if the club had 14 forwards… the decisions would be even more controversial. But defensively, it’s not impossible to think that a change could happen. I’m not saying it’s likely, but it’s a possibility. On BPM Sports with the morning gang, Renaud Lavoie mentioned that Martin St-Louis thought Arber Xhekaj’s game was “okay” last night. That’s why the door is open. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEOxWOTz1QA [content-ads]When you look at the use of the defensemen, you can see right away that St-Louis clearly had one defenseman who was used less than the other five. All the other guys, including his partner Alexandre Carrier, jumped on the ice more than 20 times and played between 17 and 23 minutes. But not Xhekaj. #11Minutes #14Presences

(Credit: NHL

) The defenseman may have had a good training camp and be more mobile on the ice, but getting his coach to trust him won’t be easy this season. So the question arises: will Jayden Struble play tonight?

Against a team less robust than the Maple Leafs, we wonder if Martin St-Louis thinks that leaving Xhekaj in the stands (not to punish him, but to play Struble) is a good idea. The answer soon. [spacer title=’en rafale’]- Wow.– Cruel, indeed.– The end for Bill Belichick?[BPM Sports] – To watch.

– It’s off to a rough start in Boston.

Oliver Kapanen played like a second center last night

Last night, the Canadiens were in Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs. The Maple Leafs won in the Queen City, but no one gave a damn over there, as the focus was solely on the Blue Jays. Renaud Lavoie (BPM Sports) confirms: Maple Leafs fans wanted nothing to do with the hockey game. Right now, the city is all about baseball. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEOxWOTz1QA The result? The hockey club’s 5-2 win was a wash compared to the ball club’s 5-2 victory. We don’t even know if people in Toronto realized that, despite their victory, their hockey club didn’t necessarily play very well. Without Mitch Marner, it’s clear that this isn’t the same club. He wasn’t invisible in October…Yes, the club won, and in the end, they were more opportunistic than the Canadiens. But in Toronto, it’s clear that Craig Berube still has some fine-tuning to do after a game that was closer than the score reflects [content-ads]Because yes, the Habs did relatively well in a game where two goals were scored in an empty net. These goals don’t change much for anyone – except maybe for the chickens in Ontario. We’re not saying that the Habs were perfect. But if they can correct their mistakes (like starting the game on the opening face-off, or getting their defensemen to have a stick in their hands), they’ll be better off.

Lane Hutson took the blame for this one.But there were positives in all of this. Oliver Kapanen, for example, earned his place in the NHL and will as long as he plays like this. His short-handed play was reassuring. At a time when the Habs have lost some key players on the power play, seeing him and Alex Newhook (who is fast) do well was reassuring. And I’m not just talking about his goal, of course: I’m talking about his game in general.[content-ads]

When you look at it, Kapanen played like a second center last night. I don’t know if it’s going to last (I have my doubts), but he’s building on his great practice camp. One goal… plus-1 differential… 20 times on ice… two shots… three checks… 50% efficiency in the face-off circle… what more could you ask for? He played 13:19 and, frankly, the coach can’t have much to reproach him for. From the way he behaved, he doesn’t look like a guy who deserves to be taken out of the line-up. Far from it, in fact [content-ads]But he’s certainly not the only player worth talking about. Here’s a look at how the Habs performed in yesterday’s game against the Maple Leafs: 1. Zachary Bolduc playing with Brendan Gallagher is like the student learning from the master. And yesterday, it paid off when Gally set the table for the Québécois’ first goal of the season in his new colors. Bolduc is playing hockey the right way. He’ll be helping the Habs for years to come. 2. Patrik Laine will have to learn not to take penalties for nothing. Between that and the sequence where he looked bad late in the game when the net was deserted (I’m not saying he was the guy to blame here), he didn’t make the news for the right reasons. His penalty may have led to Kapanen’s goal, but…

[content-ads]3. The club’s defense didn’t look bad, on the contrary. Mike Matheson and Noah Dobson have certainly reassured a few people, which is all to the good. The secret? More depth. Five defenders played between 17 and 23 minutes, providing fresh strength. Guess who played only 11 minutes? #TheSheriff4. Speaking of playing time, Ivan Demidov plays with Alex Newhook (who doesn’t have the best finish in town) and Oliver Kapanen. Yesterday, he only played 13 minutes and 21 seconds, including less than a minute on the powerplay. The message: earn your playing time, kid.5. Juraj Slafkovsky lacked finish. But yesterday, despite everything, he was able to fire no less than six shots on goal. You could feel his commitment on the ice. That said, going close is good in sports other than hockey.

6. I imagine that Samuel Montembeault would have liked to see more cohesion in front of him, in order to be able to pick up his first win of the season. He didn’t do a bad job in front of his net. [spacer title=’prolongation’]The Canadiens headed to Detroit after the game. After all, tonight they’ll face the Red Wings on the heels of their second regular-season game, andwe’ll need a win to avoid waking up my friend Tankathon.#Therewill be no morning practice for Martin St-Louis’ men. A media availability will take place shortly before lunchtime with journalists on hand. Ah: we’ll also be watching to see if Kent Hughes goes to meet Lane Hutson’s “new agents” to talk contract.

Top-4: Leafs fans celebrate Jays win at Scotiabank Arena

Last night in the NHL, there were four games. We already know that the Leafs got the better of the Habs. Here are the results and highlights of the other games:

1. Leafs fans celebrate Jays victory at Scotiabank ArenaOf course, in Toronto, fans wanted a win for their team against the Canadiens. But the Torontonians on hand knew that there was another important game involving one of their teams: the Blue Jays. Toronto could eliminate the Yankees and move on to the Association Finals. That ‘s exactly what the Jays did, with a 5-2 victory. And at Scotiabank Arena, the fans celebrated.First, they celebrated when Nathan Lukes hit a single to give the Jays a three-run lead. And they also celebrated late in the game, when Jeff Hoffman got the save. Well done to the Leafs for presenting the game on the big screen.

John Schneider’s troupe will face the winner of Game #5 between the Mariners and Tigers. The Raptors also won, completing Toronto’s hat trick [content-ads]2. Jack Roslovic will regret his decision to sign in EdmontonDuring the Oilers-Flames game, Elliotte Friedman had some news about Jack Roslovic: the Oilers and his camp had started negotiating. A few minutes later, the informant told us that Roslovic had finally signed. I guess he was convinced by Edmonton’s two-goal first period and 2-0 lead.

At one point in the game, the Oilers even led 3-0. Leon Draisaitl tripled the lead with his 400th career goal.

And now you’ve seen my subtitle: I guess Roslovic regretted his contract, as the hosts lost 4-3 in a shootout.

Calgary never gave up.First, Matvei Gridin scored his first NHL goal.

And on the tying goal, Evan Bouchard and Stuart Skinner looked lost. Not for the first time.

[content-ads]3. Jack Eichel celebrates his new contract with four pointsYesterday, Jack Eichel signed a monster eight-year/13.5-million-dollar-a-year contract with the Golden Knights, which was celebrated on the same night against the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings may have beaten the Knights in a shootout (6-5), but the American collected one goal and three assists.

The chemistry with Mitch Marner looks… there.

But the man who stole the show from Eichel and Marner was Quinton Byfield. The man who shook hands with Wayne Gretzky before the game finished with a goal and an assist.

Marner finished his first game with his new team with two assists, but was stopped by Anton Forsberg in the shootout to give the Kings the win.

[content-ads]4. The Bruins get the better of the defending President’s Cup championsIn Washington, the defending President’s Cup champions, the Capitals, took on the Boston Bruins. We know it won’t be Boston’s best season despite the 3-1 win, and it started very badly.

Hamphus Lindholm almost scored in his own net.

David Pastrnak led the charge for Boston, picking up a point on all three of his goals. First, he scored the first goal of his season.

He then fed Elias Lindholm and Morgan Geekie for their first goals of the new campaign.

It’s a first NHL win for new head coach Marco Sturm. [spacer title=’Prolongtaion’] – A first for Jeff Malott.

– A la Marc-André Fleury.

– 17 players with two or more points last night.

Marc Methot loses his job: is it because of racist remarks?

Marc Methot’s last NHL game was on November 11, 2018. After hanging up his skates, the former Blue Jackets, Sens and Stars defenseman became an analyst for TSN, covering Senators games and NHL news. But now he won’t be back for next season.

This news came out on October 3… just a few weeks after Methot was seen making a racist comment on X.

The defender commented on a post in whichPalestinian protesterstook control of the Capital Pride parade in Ottawa on August 24… and said:

I can only imagine what it smells like out there.

Marc Methot

The comment in question was never deleted on X, by the way.

[content-ads] So Marc Methot has lost his job, and you have to wonder if it’s because of his outburst on X. We know this kind of comment has no place… and for TSN, which is a big media network, maybe we didn’t like the image it gave the station either.

For his part, Methot maintains that he enjoyed his TV experience and will now focus on his guy’s team (he’s the coach of his club) and his family’s farm. He mentioned, under the X post found at the beginning of the article, that it was time to move on.

Marc Methot is a guy who never really had his tongue in his pocket. He was known for it in the NHL… and he’s also very active on social networks. But here, he crossed the line because he went too far. His comment was unnecessary… and he should have thought twice before posting something like that. [spacer title=’Overtime’] – The Leafs still want to add a forward.

– Yes!!!

– Retirement for Cam Atkinson.

– The result is comical.
