Drake lost $1.2M on the Maple Leafs

The more it goes on, the more the years become alike for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Despite the high standards of the fans and the Ontario organization, the team simply can’t win a Game 7. The defending champions, the Florida Panthers, got the better of Toronto in the final game of their series on Sunday night. Yet the Leafs have a number of impact players in their ranks, including Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander. Let’s not forget the significant acquisitions made at the trade deadline, including those of Brandon Carlo and Scott Laughton, but to no avail. Changes are to be expected on their side, of course, but that’s another story.

Nevertheless, season after season, some fans, though jaded by the failures of their favorites, have not lost faith… and rapper Drake is proof of that.

A long-time Leafs fan, Drake indulged in a little financial folly before the duel in question.

In fact, the Canadian artist bet no less than $1 million (US) on a Leafs victory over the Panthers during Game 7, with a potential payout of $2.13 million (US).

He also placed a $250,000 (US) bet on a Leafs triumph by 2 goals, which could have earned him $2 million (US), for odds of 8, no less.

In other words, this setback cost Drake a hefty $1.25 million (US)!

Big news for Martin St-Louis’ son

Since the beginning of the 21st century, Martin St-Louis has left his mark on the imagination of NHL hockey fans.

Having enjoyed a brilliant career as a player, due in no small part to his work ethic, leadership and talent, “MSL” is also the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens, as we all know.

And on a more personal note, the Québécois pilot is also a family man, with three sons, Mason, Ryan and Lucas. In fact, there’s some very exciting news about his eldest son, Ryan St-Louis.

Although, like his father, he wasn’t drafted into the NHL, Ryan has just been given a golden opportunity to prove himself, having received an invitation to attend the Washington Capitals’ development camp. Ironically, it was these same Caps who eliminated the Habs in 5 games a few weeks earlier.

At 5’10 and 21 years of age, St-Louis has played for Brown University over the past two seasons, recording offensive outputs of 24 (30 games) and 29 points (23 games). He also developed his game in the American Development Program for a few seasons, and played and studied for a year at Northeastern University (2021-2022).

There’s no doubt that this young man will look to his father as a role model, given that Martin St-Louis has had to work hard to succeed in hockey, and in life in general. He didn’t have it easy, but in the end, it helped forge his reputation as an eternal hard worker.

With one foot in the NHL, anything is possible.

Ovechkin unveils the Rolex Crosby and Malkin gave him

One of the biggest stories in the NHL in 2024-2025 will undoubtedly be that of Alex Ovechkin.

The Washington Capitals captain became the all-time leading scorer last April, surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s mark of 894 goals. With this in mind, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin presented him with a wonderful Rolex watch.

Another family controversy for RFK Jr

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been the talk of the town recently.

Another controversy splashed the septuagenarian, when he published a photo of himself and his grandchildren swimming in Washington’s Rock Creek.

The problem?

Their swim was extremely risky, as the stream in question is contaminated with multiple bacteria, including E. coli.

For ages, the National Park Service (NPS) has been warning the DC population of this very high bacterial risk and RFK Jr. exposed his grandchildren. In fact, these restrictions/warnings have been in place for over 50 years, no less.

There’s even talk of widespread fecal contamination in the vicinity…

The symptoms of E. coli should be taken seriously, as they include nausea, fever, headaches, vomiting, severe stomach cramps and watery and/or bloody diarrhoea.

More massive layoffs at Nissan

Things aren’t looking too good for Japanese carmaker Nissan these days, as bad news begins to emerge.

According to NHK, Nissan intends to eliminate 15% of its job lots very soon. That’s about 10,000 people losing their jobs across the globe. Add to this the 9,000 jobs cut last November, and we’re talking about almost 20,000 jobs lost in the space of a few months.

In addition, 7 of Nissan’s 17 facilities will disappear by 2027.

Steps were taken to form a partnership with Honda in 2024, with the aim of helping each other create a joint product, but all that fizzled out last winter, leaving Nissan’s prospects in limbo.

Add to this the monstrous customs tariffs imposed by Donald Trump.

In short, Nissan would definitely like to catch up with its competitors when it comes to electric, but let’s just say that this problematic situation is delaying the process.

Will this be enough to save them from a full-blown meltdown? Time will tell…

But in the meantime, thousands of people are suffering the consequences…

Robert De Niro takes on Donald Trump alongside Leonardo DiCaprio at Cannes

From May 13 to 24, the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival takes place – a cinematic event of international stature.

The opening ceremony was action-packed, with a number of high-profile celebrities in attendance each day to receive awards. Such was the case with veteran actor Robert De Niro, who received the honorary Palme d’Or.

The 81-year-old gave a strong speech at the award ceremony, with Leonardo DiCaprio close to him, in which he attacked US President Donald Trump.

In particular, De Niro criticized Trump for not encouraging democracy, and for the fact that the president has issued a persistent global threat since returning to power.

The man who once starred in The Godfather 2 went on to criticize Trump, following the President’s announcement of a 100% tax on films made outside the USA. He called on people to take action and stand up, while advocating pacifism.

Title of next Mario Bros movie accidentally revealed

Who can’t wait for the next film in the Mario Bros. saga?

In 2023, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was a big hit at the cinema, grossing over $1.3 billion (US) at the box office. The story featured a cast of fan-favorite characters from the Mario Bros. universe, including Mario himself, Luigi, Peach, Donkey Kong and Bowser, creating a total success story.

Successful adaptations of video games to film are rare, but Nintendo can say mission accomplished here.

In fact, the end of the first installment hinted at the possibility of a sequel, and this has now been confirmed more officially in March 2024, when Michael Jelenic and Aaron Horvath will return to their posts. The project should see the light of day in April 2026, according to previous information.

Information about this mysterious sequel has just leaked out, thanks to a blunder on the part of NBC Universal. In fact, they accidentally revealed the title of the next Mario Bros. film in an official press release.

The film in question would be called “Super Mario World”.

This is a reference to the legendary Mario Bros. video game, which already bears this name. The document in question was subsequently modified, via an update, leaving no trace of the film in question.

The second installment in this series will also feature the long-awaited arrival of Yoshi, another key character in this universe, in another nod to the original video game.

Expect the return of several well-known names to play these famous characters, including Chris Pratt (Mario) and Jack Black (Bowser).

Nintendo has also announced the arrival of “The Legend of Zelda” movie, scheduled for 2027.

The future looks exciting for Nintendo’s loyal fans, given the high-profile projects on the agenda!

New pope is a fan of this team (and was even on TV for a game)

Who says Cardinals have no other field of interest than religion?

It’s now common knowledge that Pope Francis has his replacement as head of the Catholic Church and head of the Vatican’s monarchical state, namely Robert Francis Prevost, aka Leo XIV. The latter was recently elected as the 267th Pope by the Conclave.

Leo XIV is known for a peculiarity that has been the talk of the town: he is an American. More precisely, he was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 14, 1955 (age 69).

With this in mind, another interesting fact was revealed about one of Leon XIV’s areas of interest: he is a fan of the Chicago White Sox. This city is renowned for its sportsmanship, and clearly, the new Pope has immersed himself in the dynamics of his hometown. That said, he has made it clear that he is in no way a fan of the Cubs, Chicago’s other baseball club, as rumors had it.

Incidentally, a clip involving the Pope has been circulating on the Web since his enthronement, showing him at Game 1 of the 2005 World Series, involving “his” White Sox against the Houston Aeros.

Chicago won the World Series in four games that year.

Decidedly, some people will see the new pope as a little more “normal” than one might think.

He is a human being, after all!

Troubling story for Matvei Michkov in Dubai

The longer this goes on, the more we begin to realize just how polarizing a hockey player Matvei Michkov really is.

A member of the Philadelphia Flyers since 2023, the Russian never ceases to be the talk of the town, be it for his talent on the ice or for the negative rumors we used to hear about him. In fact, the Canadiens preferred David Reinbacher to him in the 2023 draft.

In short, even though he possesses sharp skills, it’s clear that he scared a lot of people off back then.

The youngster has been the talk of the town since Tuesday, when he was involved in a road accident while on vacation in Dubai.

According to information circulated by journalist Alexey Shevchenko, the car was rented in his name, but he was not behind the wheel at the time of the accident.

The Flyers organization is aware of what happened in Dubai.

The same journalist also mentioned the possibility of the involvement of alcohol and prostitutes in the story, as well as an administrative problem on Michkov’s side, when he apparently left the country without certain important documents…

It’s worth noting that his lawyer preached that his client was a “victim”. Who’s right?

In short, it seems inevitable that this story will tarnish the name of the European forward.

Ivan Demidov and his girlfriend took a trip to this popular destination

The 2024-2025 season wasn’t all plain sailing for the Montreal Canadiens’ new crown jewel, Ivan Demidov.

The youngster spent most of the year at home in Russia, working off the last of his contract with the KHL’s SKA St. Petersburg. He then played in the playoffs with his team, having been eliminated early in the first round.

The fifth overall pick in the 2024 NHL draft flew to Montreal after the playoffs on the other continent, crossing the globe to make the jump to North America last April. And that’s not forgetting Demidov’s baptism on the Bettman circuit, both in the regular season and in the playoffs. So, let’s face it, he’s had quite an eventful few weeks.

Many thought he’d be heading home to Russia to rest up, but he doesn’t seem to have any plans to return for the time being.

With this in mind, he has decided to take a break in the warm southern sun, under the terms of the 2024-2025 calendar, by treating himself to a little trip with his girlfriend Katya.

In fact, the dashing lovebirds recently shared a photo on social networks, to share their current travel dynamic, as they flew to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

A great way to celebrate his brand-new contract (and life) with the Habs.
