The Police To Kick Off World Tour

Sting, Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers will again share the stage for their first concert in 20 years in Vancouver, Canada.

The Police, one of the most popular bands of the 1980s, is touring again, as this year marks the 30th birthday of their successful song Roxanne in North America.

After touring Canada and the United States, the band will travel across Europe.  Mexico, South America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand are also planned for the tour.

Eva Mendes Talks About Her Sex Scene

While at the Cannes Film Festival promoting the film We Own the Night, Mendes talked about her scene with Joaquin Phoenix.  The 33 year-old actress said, "I wasn’t comfortable at all.  They poured me a vodka and orange juice and then I was fine."

Mendes added, "I’m very professional and I don’t usually drink on the job but that morning I had a little vodka and OJ."

Lindsay Lohan Has More Trouble

The incident took place on Saturday at 5:30 in the morning in Beverly Hills.  Police have confirmed that the star was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

A witness called police after Lohan’s car hit a curb.  When they arrived, they found Lohan and two passengers.  Authorities have also confirmed that drugs, possibly including cocaine, were found in the car.

After the accident, Lohan was treated for minor injuries at a hospital.  The two other occupants of the car were not injured in the crash.

Bono Honoured in the United States

The Irish singer has been given the Liberty Medal.  The Liberty Medal is awarded by the US National Constitution Center to recognise charity work.  Bono was selected because he "demonstrated leadership and vision in the pursuit of liberty".

The award also includes $100,000, that will be given by the artist to the Debt Aids Trade Africa foundation, which was started by Bono in 2002.

Six previous winners of the Liberty Medal have gone on to win Nobel prizes.

Orlando Bloom Wants to Take a Break

The Pirates of the Caribbean star shared the news with the Associated Press.  Bloom, 30, explained, "It’s been wonderful, but I’m sort of psyched to do something completely different."

The British actor also plans to take some different roles.  He will soon perform on the live stage in London for In Celebration.

He added, "I’m looking forward to continuing working on movies and making choices that excite me, and right now that is doing some theater."

Another Pirates of the Caribbean star, Keira Knightley, also plans to take some time off from film work.

Dr. Martens Apologises to Courtney Love

Dr. Martens had published an advertisement that depicted the late Nirvana singer dressed as an angel and wearing Dr. Martens.

David Suddens, the company’s president, expressed his remorse to Love on Thursday, and all of the ads have been pulled.

In an interview with People magazine, Suddens said, "We are really, really, really sorry.  We do think that it is offensive. We made a mistake. My message to Courtney Love is: This is something we shouldn’t have been doing."

The advertisements showing Cobain had only been shown in the United Kingdom.  Suddens added that he had never even seen the ads before they were released.

Lindsay Lohan Plans Next Disc

The Georgia Rule star revealed the news during an interview with MTV.  Lohan explained, "We’ll start in probably June or July and take four months."

The last disc from the 20 year-old star, A Little More Personal (Raw), was released in 2005.  Her disc Speak was released the year prior.

Celebrities Unite Against AIDS

Actress Sharone Stone was the auctioneer, while Kylie Minogue and Julian Lennon sang.  Dita Von Teese performed a striptease dance, and a record-setting amount of money was collected.

The event was organised by the American Foundation for AIDS Research, which raised $7 million.

For festival attendees, it was the second benefit event in two nights.  The cast of the film Ocean’s Thirteen also raised $9.2 million for the plight in Darfur.

Jordin Sparks is The New American Idol

Viewers of last night’s show on Fox watched as the 17 year-old Sparks won the competition.  The singer, from Glendale, Arizona, earned more votes than her final competitor, Blake Lewis.

More than 74 million votes were cast for the grand finale, which was a record for the show.  Jordin Sparks joins Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks, who have all been winners on the television show.

Steven Spielberg’s Generous Donation

The American director gave the substantial amount of money to a foundation that has been formed by the stars of the film Ocean’s Thirteen, George Clooney and Brad Pitt, to bring aid to Darfur.

The two stars, who are currently promoting their film in Cannes, raised $9 million for their charity.  The foundation is called Save Darfur, and Spielberg’s was the most generous donation that was collected.

Darfur is a region in Africa that has been going through a civil war since 2003.  More than 200,000 people have lost their lives in the tragedy while more than 2 million have become refugees and are without homes.
