Inductions to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

The Sex Pistols refused to attend the event, saying it would be like, "urine in wine".

"Hopefully our induction tonight will add to the validation, and hard rock and heavy metal will have an enduring and everlasting place in rock history," said Bill Ward of Black Sabbath.

The late Miles Davis was inducted by musician Herbie Hancock, who called Davis a "man of mystery, magic and mystique".

While Lyrnyrd Skynyrd took their award, they paid homage to singer Ronnie Van Zant, who died in a plane accident in 1977.

To be inducted into the Hall of Fame, an artist or group must have been in existence for 25 years.  A jury of 700 people choose each year’s inductees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which is located in Cleveland, Ohio.
