Chanel plays pétanque in style

Chanel follows in the footsteps of luxury goods house Louis Vuitton and jumps into the world of pétanque.

The famous Parisian fashion house is extending its latest country living collection with the creation of a luxury pétanque game set.

Luxurylaunches.com describes the game set: "The case comes with eight bocce balls crafted in stainless steel, bearing a Chanel logos engraving, along with a wooden target ball. The case itself has been made in two-tone brown and natural woven wicker bearing the Chanel interlocking C’s written with a braided rope on the top cover. The case has been finished with brown saddle leather straps and handle."

For Chanel, this is the latest item in a series of outdoor products for people who want to experience life off the beaten path. Fans of the French label can also purchase items like Chanel-branded surfboards, snowboards, a Zodiac inflatable boat, bicycles, guitars or a fishing rod.

Karl Lagerfeld collaborates with Coca-Cola

Chanel’s fashion guru since 1983, designer Karl Lagerfeld is now collaborating with Coca-Cola. He created a special edition Coca-Cola Light bottle in white aluminum. It features Lagerfeld’s own silhouette on the bottle in black with his signature ponytail clearly visible.

The bottle comes with a unique limited edition box that features a small bottle opener. The opener is located in a small drawer at the bottom of the box.

The first bottles featuring Karl Lagerfeld go on sale at the Galeries Lafayette in Paris on April 28. The initial sale period runs for 12 days.

Lagerfeld not only appears on the new Coca-Cola bottle, he also shot the advertising campaign. The designer called on his favourite models, Coco Rocha and Baptiste Giacobini, to star in the campaign. They play the roles of the beautiful girl and the waiter in a French café.

Lionel Richie is a little too hands-on

The superstar has asked some of his friends to perform at his daughter’s wedding.

A source told Heat magazine: "All of the biggest names in music are getting an invite. Lionel is asking some to sing. He wants the reception to be a big concert."

Some of the names of possible guests include Tina Turner, Rihanna, 50 Cent and Leona Lewis.

Nicole Richie, 28, and Good Charlotte singer Joel Madden, 31, plan to tie the knot at the end of the year. They already have two children, a girl named Harlow, 2, and a boy named Sparrow, 6 months.

Lionel Richie previously expressed his intense happiness at the upcoming nuptials. He said, "My happiness for Nicole and Joel knows no boundaries. They have given me two beautiful grandchildren, Harlow and Sparrow, and have proven to be great parents. I am not sure who is luckier, Nicole and Joel to have each other, or me, to have both of them in my life. I cannot wait to give away the bride!"

Robin Thicke and Paula Patton get a stork visit

Singer Robin Thicke, 32, and actress Paula Patton, 34, welcomed their first child, Julian Fuego on Tuesday (April 6).

A spokesman for the crooner told People magazine, "Mother, father and son are all doing well."

Thicke and Patton have been dating since they met in high school. They will celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary in June.

Paula Patton was part of the cast of Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire last year. She next stars in a film Just Wright with Queen Latifah coming out in May.

Robin Thicke’s father is Canadian Alan Thicke who starred in the 1980s television series Growing Pains.

Jake Gyllenhaal moves on

Brokeback Mountain star Jake Gyllenhaal has recovered from his breakup with Reese Witherspoon and is now dating Australian actress Isabel Lucas.

Gyllenhaal has been single since the end of last year. He is in Montreal right now filming Source Code.

The actor and his new flame were seen dining together at Garde Manger restaurant in Montreal. One gossip site reports that another Gyllenhaal ex-girlfriend, Kirsten Dunst, was dining with a friend in the same restaurant that night. She is also in Montreal shooting a movie.

Jake Gyllenhaal has landed on his feet after that painful breakup last year. At the time, he seemed ready to marry Witherspoon. However, the Legally Blonde actress did not believe he was ready to be a stepfather to her two children.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen star Isabel Lucas has been single for several months. The 25-year old starlet previously dated Adrian Grenier (Entourage).

Jack Gyllenhaal’s new blockbuster Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time opens in theatres this summer.

Whitney Houston hospitalized

The 46-year old American star was admitted to a Paris hospital early Wednesday morning (April 7). She arrived in France to perform but a new health problem forced her to put concerts there on hold.

Houston was admitted to the American Hospital in the Paris suburb of Neuilly where she is being treated for "chronic rhinopharyngitis" and an upper respiratory infection.

The I Will Always Love You singer was forced to cancel her Paris concert. The first three concerts scheduled in Britain are also cancelled. These shows are rescheduled for May and June.

Concert promoter Jackie Lombard explained that the singing star caught a cold on an airplane. He said she will recover and return to perform in Paris.

Her record label, RCA, issued a statement providing more details: "Doctors visited Whitney late last night in Paris and confirmed that she was suffering from an upper respiratory infection. Upon medical advice, Whitney has been advised that she cannot perform to allow her time to recover."

Whitney Houston has had a difficult return to the spotlight. She was heavily criticized by Australian fans after a few shows there in March.

System of a Down singer goes solo

System of a Down singer Serj Tankian dropped his first solo album in 2007, Elect the Dead. His second album, Imperfect Harmonies, was entirely recorded at the singer’s Los Angeles home.

No specific release date has been given but he did announce it will come out during the summer.

In an interview with Blabbermouth, Tankian revealed that his second solo work was influenced by Elect The Dead Symphony. This symphony recording from his first solo album was recorded in New Zealand last year.

The singer explains that the music on his upcoming album is darker than the first. He says, "Imperfect Harmonies could be classified as rock because it is punchy with many peaks throughout, but the instrumentation is somewhat different."

Between now and the release of his second solo album, Serj Tankian is performing Elect The Dead Symphony with several orchestras in Europe. Some American dates are also planned in July.

Hedley headlines Big Music Fest

Big Music Fest takes place on July 3 in Owen Sound, Ontario and offers an impressive line-up of Canadian artists.

Besides Hedley, scheduled to perform the closing show at the festival, fans can look forward to catching Our Lady Peace, Finger Eleven, Matthew Good and David Wilcox.

Owen Sound is a small municipality located two and a half hours northwest of Toronto. It is the first time the place has hosted this event.

Organizers expect more than 10,000 rock fans from across southwestern Ontario to gather in Owen Sound on the Saturday after Canada Day.

Belleville, Ontario has successfully hosted its own version of the Big Music Fest for the last several years. It has a festival planned for the summer. On June 19, Gord Downie, ZZ Top, Collective Soul, Big Sugar, Karl Wolf and Danny Fernandes will be on hand to perform.

Tickets are already on sale for these two music festivals.

DeNiro and Scorsese reunion?

These two giants of American cinema have shared a lot of success. Some of the classics they have worked on together include Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Cape Fear and Casino, their last collaboration in 1995.

Last weekend at the Berlin International Film Festival, Scorsese did not hide his desire to reconnect with the famous actor. "Bob De Niro (and I) are talking about something that has to do with that world," Scorsese said at the premiere of his new psychological thriller at the festival on Saturday.

"There’s no doubt about that," he added. "We’re working on something like that, but it’s from the vantage point of older men looking back, none of this running around stuff."

Scorsese was in Germany promoting his new film, Shutter Island, a psychological thriller starring another of the filmmaker’s favourites, Leonardo DiCaprio.

Robert De Niro has won two Oscars during his brilliant career. He was awarded a Best Actor trophy for his work in the film Raging Bull, directed by a certain Martin Scorsese in 1979.
