Brad Pitt Visits Washington

The star, who is known for his humanitarian efforts, was in the American capital to discuss his project, Make It Right, which was founded in 2007.

Pitt’s plan strives to help the residents of New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward to be provided with new and affordable housing.  The area was devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Pelosi applauded the Hollywood star for his passion and involvement in the New Orleans area, however, she did not commit to supporting the actor’s project.

Pitt, who was recently nominated for an Oscar in the film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, was in Washington, DC with his partner, Angelina Jolie.

Madonna Named Worst Dressed

PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has announced this year’s worst offenders and fur wearers.

The "Material Girl" topped the list, followed closely by twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.  According to PETA, the girls prefer to wear fur to look 20 years older and 20 pounds heavier.

Maggie Gyllenhaal ranks third on the list, followed by rapper Kanye West in fourth place.  According to PETA, the singer has no right to proclaim himself as "the voice of a generation" if he wears fur.

Finally, in fifth place is actress Elizabeth Hurley.  PETA says the fading star should leave animals in peace and work on her career.

Robin Williams to Have Heart Surgery

The 57-year-old comedian, who became ill during his stand-up show Weapons of Self Destruction earlier this week in Florida, will have to undergo heart surgery.

The star was in the middle of an 80-show tour when he suddenly felt short of breath.  Exams at a Miami hospital confirmed that Williams was having heart problems. 

‘I’m so touched by everyone’s support and well wishes. This tour has been amazing fun and I can’t wait to get back out on the road after a little tune-up," explained Williams.

Robin Williams earned an Oscar for best supporting actor in 1998 for the film Good Will Hunting.

Matt Damon Visits South Africa

Damon is currently in South Africa, where he is working on the film The Human Factor under the direction of Clint Eastwood.

Between scenes, the 38-year-old star visited the border, where thousands of people are trying to escape the economic misery of their country.

"I have spoken to so many people who went through so much to get to this point. It is testament to the situation across the border in Zimbabwe," Damon said.

Approximately three million people from Zimbabwe are living along the border of South Africa.  Six thousand of those people are allowed into South Africa each day.

With the help of Brad Pitt and George Clooney, Damon organised the human rights group Not On Our Watch.  The goal of the organisation is to bring attention to the plight of the people living in this area of the world.

Britney Spears Show Too Sexy for Sons

The American singer, who began her tour this week, won’t be performing for her sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James.

The boys’ father, Kevin Federline, decided that most of the numbers in the Circus tour are too sexy for the young children.  However, Spears did take the time to put together a private concert for the boys, performing some of the less provocative numbers.

A source told the Daily Mirror, "It was great for Brit to have the children around. There is so much riding on the tour that she had worked herself up and her nerves were getting to her. Seeing the boys before her big night helped to relax her. She let them see most of her numbers in rehearsals, but the really sexy ones she left until the late-night run throughs when they had gone home."

Fatboy Slim in Detox

The DJ, whose real name is Norman Cook, decided to put an end to his alcohol problems.

The news was confirmed by his rep, Garry Blackburn, who stated, "We’re being open and honest about this. Norman’s gone in voluntarily to sort out his drinking problem."

Blackburn added, "He went in earlier this week. And he’s great. He just needs to sort things out."

The 45-year-old star is married and has a nine-year-old son.

The biggest successes in Fatboy Slim’s career were the songs Praise You and The Rockafeller Skank, released in 1999.

Robin Williams in Intensive Care

The star announced show cancellations yesterday due to what seemed like breathing problems.

According to the Miami Herald, the situation is much more serious. A source stated, "He is currently at a Miami hospital with heart issues and could be laid up for a while."

Williams was performing his show, Weapons of Self Destruction, in South Florida when he suddenly felt ill. Since last September, he has visited 80 cities to perform his stand-up comedy act to sold-out audiences.

In 1998, Williams won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in the film Good Will Hunting.

Joey Gaydos Arrested for Drunk Driving

Gaydos, 17, who starred in School of Rock with Jack Black in 2003, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and also for underage consumption in the United States.

The young man was arrested last month by police in Michigan. He was leaving a fast food restaurant when the police pulled him over.

Since shooting School of Rock, Gaydos has been making music with his band, The Joey Gaydos Group.

A University in Liverpool Offers a Beatles Degree

Liverpool Hope University will become the first English university to offer a master’s degree program on the famous quartet.

The program, called The Beatles, Popular Music and Society, will study the musical aspects of Beatlemania, but will also cover the social and economic standpoints.

Over the years, more than 8 000 books have been written on the Beatles. However, the group has not been offered as a serious college program of study.

The university has already received positive feedback from English, American and Canadian students who want to enrol in the program in September.

Britney Takes the Stage

Dressed as a sexy ringmaster, Spears didn’t miss a step during her return to the stage in New Orleans.

The singer was joined on stage by jugglers, acrobats and martial arts dancers for the first show of her Circus tour.

The 27-year-old star performed some of her biggest hits, including a rendition of Piece of Me from inside a cage.

The Britney Spears Circus tour will cross the United States and Canada before ending in London in June.
