Here’s how to watch The Kardashians in Canada

A year following Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ final episode after 20 seasons, the family everybody loves to hate has returned with a new series called The Kardashians.

While the refreshed version of the familiar reality show will Stream on Hulu in the U.S., Canadians can watch the family squabble on Disney+’s more adult-focused ‘Star’ channel.

It’s important to note that Disney+/Star will get new episodes of The Kardashians at the same time as they’re available in the U.S. on Hulu. The first episode premieres on April 14th at 9pm PT/ 12 am ET and future episodes will stream weekly at the same time. A Disney+ subscription costs $11.99 per month or $119.99 per year.

Disney+’s Star section includes content like Reservation Dogs, Family Guy, Futurama and more.

This season of The Kardashians is expected to delve into Kim’s divorce from Kanye West and her budding romance with SNL’s Pete Davidson, Kourtney’s engagement to Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, Kylie’s second pregnancy and more. Oh, and thankfully, Scott Disick, the undeniably most underrated cast member, thankfully returns to the reality show.

Walmart Canada opens sustainable grocery distribution centre in Surrey, B.C.

Walmart Canada has opened the doors to its brand new sustainable grocery distribution centre. Located in Surrey, B.C., the 300,000 square foot facility is the latest venture in the company’s supply chain growth.

Walmart Canada has pledged a $3.5 billion investment in growing its distribution. As such, the Surrey Grocery Distribution Centre was built for $175 million. Walmart Canada promises the employment of more than 250 associates once the facility is fully operational.

The grocery distribution centre is set to provide pantry items, fresh grocery goods, and frozen items to 45 Walmart locations in B.C. Prior to opening this facility, distribution stemmed from long hauls from Alberta. Opening the doors to the new centre reduces the company’s carbon footprint.

“We’re incredibly proud of our new sustainability-focused and technology-enabled distribution centre in Surrey,” Horacio Barbeito, president and CEO of Walmart Canada said in a statement. ” Facilities like this one are an investment in the community, our associates and customers and allow our suppliers to get their products into the hands of Canadians across the country even faster. We continue to strengthen our world-class supply chain to ensure Canadians have access to the products they need in a way that’s fast, efficient and minimizes our impact on the environment so that they can live better.”

Walmart Canada provided a breakdown of some of the notable sustainability features of the facility. The Surrey Grocery Distribution Centre features LED lighting and smart controls. The company claims this will reduce energy consumption by 70 percent. Walmart Canada also utilizes efficient refrigeration systems that use environmentally preferable CFC-free carbon dioxide. Plus, the facility utilizes an HVAC system to reclaim heat rejected from the refrigeration system for under-floor heating. Finally, Walmart Canada states that it is on track to becoming a zero-waste facility.

Once fully operational, the facility will be able to process 150,000 order picks per day. Additionally, It serves as a future hub for Walmart Canada’s EV fleet, including semi-trucks.

Elon Musk offers $43 billion to take Twitter private

Elon Musk wants to take Twitter private, and he’s willing to pay $43 billion to make it happen.

On Thursday, the billionaire filed official documents with the  U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He’s offering to pay $54.20 a share in cash, a deal he says shareholders will “love.”

Musk’s Twitter saga started earlier this month when a filing showed he purchased 9.2 percent of Twitter in March. He was set to join the social media giant’s board of directors before pulling out.

“I invested in Twitter as I believe in its potential to be the platform for free speech around the globe, and I believe free speech is a societal imperative for a functioning democracy,” Musk says in the most recent filing.

In a message posted on the platform, Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal provided no specifics on why Musk pulled out but believed the decision was “for the best.”

Musk’s recent filing provides a little more detail for his thought process, doubting how the company currently runs.

“Since making my investment I now realize the company will neither thrive nor serve this societal imperative in its current form. Twitter needs to be transformed as a private company.”

This is Musk’s only offer, and he states he will not be “playing the back-and-forth game.” He will reconsider his position as a shareholder if the offer isn’t accepted.

Staybl allows people with hand tremors to regain the joy of using the internet

Staybl is the first web browser technology designed to compensate for hand tremors and improve access to digital experiences for those living with Parkinson’s Disease and other essential tremor conditions.

People with Parkinson’s disease, Multiple sclerosis, Dystonia or any other ailment that causes tremors in the body have difficulty using modern gadgets.

As first reported by The Verge, Havas Worldwide has developed an app called Staybl (a play on stable) for the iPad that makes it easier for people with shaky hands to enjoy technology without having to struggle to perform actions like clicking buttons, holding the tablet stable, swiping and more — actions that come naturally for people without said ailments.

Essentially, Staybl is a browser with several accessibility features for those suffering from hand tremors.

According to the app’s description on the App Store, it was tested by people who have Parkinson’s and actively adapted to suit those with hand tremors, allowing people the best possible iPad experience.

The iPad-only app, in conjunction with the iPad’s accelerometer, detects when the device is being shaken due to tremors, and accordingly moves the on-screen page in the opposite direction to maximize page stability. The app also offers users several presets designed for different tremor intensities. “Depending on the selected preset, the browser window will shrink to provide additional free space to compensate for tremor movements,” reads Stabyl’s website.

Additionally, the browser eliminates swipe and slide gestures for navigation, and provides enlarged buttons that are easier to press, along with specific settings to tackle tremor symptoms that change intensity throughout the day.

As of right now, the Staybl app is only available for the iPadOS 14 or later, and the developers recommend that it works best on newer iPads with a 120Hz display. Havas Worldwide has plans to expand the application to both Android and iOS devices in the future, though it doesn’t have a concrete date set.

Here are the winners from Apple’s Shot on iPhone Macro Challenge

The winners of Apple’s ‘Shot on iPhone Macro Challenge‘ have been revealed, and it truly shows the prowess of the iPhone 13 series’ Macro Mode when paired with creative individuals.

Out of the several submissions, a panel of judges comprised of Apple employees and photographers Anand Varma, Apeksha Maker, Paddy Chao, and Yik Keat Lee selected ten winning photos to be featured on Apple’s website, Instagram page, and billboards around the world.

The winners of the challenge hail from China, Hungary, India, Italy, Spain, Thailand, and the United States. There were no Canadian winners this time around, though Canadian photographer and filmmaker Peter McKinnon was holding it down for the nation in the panel of judges from around the world.

Apple greenlights Greyhound sequel for Apple TV+, Tom Hanks due to return

Apple has given the green light to development of a sequel to 2020’s Greyhound. Star Tom Hanks and Playtone partner Gary Goetzman have signed a multi-year deal with Apple TV+.

Still in its infancy, Greyhound was a major boon for Apple TV+. In May 2020, Sony sold the streaming right of the film to Apple. The film rights sold for $70 million USD (roughly $94.8 million CAD).

The World War II action film gained a lot of traction for its star power and attachment to Hanks. The actor wrote the screenplay, inspired by the 1955 novel The Good Shepherd by C. S. Forester. Greyhound centres on Commander Ernest Krause of the US Navy and his assignment to command an escort group defending an Allied merchant ship convoy under attack by German subs.

The specific plot of the Greyhound sequel remains unknown.

The film was nominated for several prestigious awards, including the Critics Choice Movie Awards for ‘Best Visual Effects.’ Greyhound was recognized and awarded ‘Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing’ by the Golden Reel Awards.

Greyhound is not the only Apple TV+ project Hanks has worked on. More recently, the actor starred in the post-apocalyptic dystopian film Finch. While an established relationship has formed, there was a time when it appeared Hanks was a bit more hesitant about his film landing on digital platforms.

When Greyhound was sold and abandoned its theatrical release due to the pandemic, Hanks was very outspoken in expressing his “absolute heartbreak” that it wouldn’t be seen on the big screen. “I don’t mean to make angry my Apple overlords, but there is a difference in picture and sound quality,” Hanks said in an interview at the time.

Hanks may have swept those feelings under the rug since that time. Playtone, Hanks and Goetzman’s production company is now producing several series, unscripted projects, and documentaries for Apple TV+.

Aside from the projects featuring Hanks, Masters of the Air, a pseudo-follow-up to The Pacific and Band of Brothers, sees Apple and Playtone collaborating. Apple has not announced a specific release date for Masters of the Air. Though, it may release in late 2022.

The untitled Greyhound sequel does not have a release window currently.

TikTok is testing a dislike comments button

TikTok is testing a way for users to dislike comments to help people feel more in control of the content they’re viewing.

The company unveiled this information in its most recent community guidelines that track how it’s enforcing its safety guidelines.

Some users taking part in the test have shared their screenshots of the thumbs down button. The button appears next to the heart in the comment section. As of right now, it seems like dislikes counters aren’t visible the same way likes are.

“We’ve started testing a way to let individuals identify comments they believe to be irrelevant or inappropriate,” the social media platform states.

YouTube recently hid the dislike count across its platform.
