Watch Dogs is getting an official manga set in Tokyo

Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs is getting an official manga set in Tokyo. The manga will launch on April 12th and is called Watch Dogs Tokyo.

The series features the Bloom corporation from the Watch Dogs that’s made it to Tokyo.

Manga Mogura RE that spotted the new series shared the synopsis of the new manga.

“It will be about a special new infrastructure system from a company called Bloom Japan used by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government to change people’s lives. However this new system does in fact also harbour a great darkness.”

It’s unclear if there will be an English version of the manga. However, it’s worth noting that a lot of manga are then turned into anime, and a Watch Dogs anime set in Tokyo would be pretty cool to see one day.

Acting legend Al Pacino uses an iPhone 13 with a Shrek case

While there hasn’t been a new Shrek film since 2010, that hasn’t stopped the internet from meme-ing the hell out of the green ogre for years.

Now, it looks like none other than Oscar winner Al Pacino has been getting in on the fun with a special Shrek-themed phone case.

On Instagram, Aquaman star Jason Momoa posted a photo of himself at a dinner with several other people, including Pacino, to celebrate a gallery opening for painter Julien Schnabel.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Jason Momoa (@prideofgypsies)

An unassuming photo at first glance, but naturally, nothing gets by the internet, and attention quickly turned to Pacino’s phone, an iPhone 13. Not only did the image confirm where the 81-year-old lands on the neverending iOS vs. Android debate, but it also showed a case with none other than Shrek himself.

Twitter user @cockagecore pointed out the case with a zoomed-in glance at Momoa’s original photo:

However, some were quick to point out that the actual image on the case is a bit hard to make out, so self-proclaimed Italian cinephile @katepenniman took it upon herself to fact-check. In this case, that meant going about as close to the source as you can get: Pacino’s daughter, Olivia.

In response, Olivia confirmed that her father does indeed have a Shrek phone case. “Yes it is hahah!!” the legendary actor’s daughter responded.

Interestingly, Pacino never lent his voice to any of the Shrek films or their Puss in Boots spin-offs, so it appears that he owns the case simply because he’s a Shrek stan.

Pacino can most recently be seen in last year’s House of Gucci, another meme-worthy film.

Mark Gurman predicts new Macs at WWDC

In June, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman expects big things at Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC). Including two new Macs.

Specifically, he expects a redesigned MacBook Air and some other Mac to come out either in the middle of the year, like at WWDC, or early in the second half of the year.

This MacBook Air would signify the next step in Apple’s desktop chips and come equipped with an Apple M2 processor. If the rumours about this laptop are correct, it will also come in a few colours.

We could also see a refreshed Mac mini or 24-inch iMac that uses this new chip. There are skeptical rumours that Apple will also revamp the 13-inch MacBook Pro, but I’m not sure if I believe that the smallest Pro model will stick around much longer.

Beyond the new hardware, we’re also seeing Apple’s latest software suite, including iOS 16. This will be the most exciting update alleged by Gurman since it may include many references to Apple’s work in the AR space to get ready for its augmented reality headset.

Beyond that, there isn’t going to be a visual redesign alongside the updates this year.

Square reveals new Square Stand iPad POS with built-in card reader

Contactless payment system company Square has revealed its brand new point of sales (POS) system. The new Square Stand is compatible with the iPad and features a built-in card reader.

The updated Square Stand is a POS payment terminal for businesses of all sizes. According to the Block subsidiary, the device is compatible with the most recent 2021, 2020, and 2019 iPads. It can also be used with the 2019 iPad Air and the 10.5-inch iPad Pro.

It’s been designed to be user-friendly, with the only requirement being that the iPad must have the Square Point of Sale app installed.

The new Square Stand features a 180-degree swivel so the salesperson can rotate the POS towards the client or customer for payment. Rather than require various pieces of hardware, the stand’s card reader is located on the right side of the device. Customers must merely tap their card to complete payment. The device also supports card swipes and inserts as well.

To help identify successful payments and where customers must tap, the Square Stand features LED lighting. The guided lighting will show the appropriate spot to tap a card on the device, making it intuitive to use.

“Square Stand combines Square’s point of sale software and hardware into one complete solution, enabling sellers to take in-person payments and manage ecommerce sales, deliveries, and buy online, pick-up in-store orders from a single place,” the company said in a press release.

The Square Stand is now available to order. In Canada, the device is priced at $249.99. It can also be financed for $21/month over a year. There is also an option to purchase the Square Stand with a 32GB iPad 2020 for $679 in total. Expected delivery is estimated to be around one or two weeks.

Microsoft reported to be working on a new Xbox Series X chip

Microsoft is reportedly working on a new chip for its Xbox Series X console. The upgraded chip is said to be focused on helping increase power efficiency while cutting the costs of manufacturing.

During a Q&A video, Microsoft journalist Brad Sams said he believes the company is working on a newly refined chip. “I believe it is accurate that Microsoft is working on a smaller, more power-efficient chip. I’m very confident in that,” Sams said in the video.

The Xbox Series X is still powerful in its own right. Though, the console is built on technology first developed a year or so prior to its November 2020 launch. Sams goes on to explain that the Xbox Series X chip is “a dated design.”

As far as what the new chip will do to serve players, the scope is likely limited to performance. It’s still too early in the console’s lifecycle to consider plans for a ‘Pro’ model of the Xbox Series X. A new iteration on the current chip could help improve the console’s power consumption. Therefore, one could imagine the console being able to be quieter while running. Additionally, it may be able to run cooler.

Microsoft is also likely looking at ways to reduce the manufacturing cost of the console. “Now, are we going to see performance improvements, are we going to see anything else? I do not believe so. But Microsoft is always working on making cooler, more efficient chips because that lowers the cost of production.” Of course, there’s no guarantee whether or not that will reflect on the purchasing cost of the console.

Currently, it’s difficult for hardware manufacturers and their suppliers to keep up with demand. Therefore, it’s hard to pinpoint when a potential new chip would be integrated into the Xbox Series X. It’s entirely possible that consoles with the newly developed chip could hit retail and digital shelves this fall.

Now-deleted support doc suggests Apple might release a 35W Dual USB-C Power Adapter

A now-deleted support document on Apple’s website suggests that the Cupertino, California-based company might be planning to release a 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter.

First reported on by 9to5Macthe support document indicates that a Dual USB-C Power Adapter isn’t an in-development accessory, and instead, a product that might go live on Apple’s webstore any day.

Use the Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter and a USB-C cable (not included) to charge your device. Connect a USB-C cable to either port on the power adapter, extend the electrical prongs (if necessary), then plug the power adapter firmly into the power outlet. Ensure the power outlet is easily accessible for disconnecting. Connect the other end of the cable to your device.

According to 9to5Mac, the support document was taken off the website soon after it was published, which could indicate either that such a product is in development or that it is ready, but the support document was published too early. I’m leaning towards the latter, considering how detailed the support document is.

Previous leaks from often-reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo have indicated that Apple plans to release a 30W GaN charger in 2022. GaN, which stands for gallium nitride, allows chargers to produce less heat and offer a higher charging wattage in a smaller form factor.

While Apple already offers a 140W GaN charger with the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2020), the new 35 or 30W charger would most likely be used to simultaneously charge less power-hungry devices like the iPhone or Apple Watch.

User spots ‘Face Unlock’ reference on Pixel 6 Pro

Google may be bringing face-scanning technology to its Pixel 6 Pro. Recently, a user discovered ‘Face Unlock’ when setting up their Pixel 6 Pro.

The feature was spotted on the “Choose a screen lock” stage, where you have to specify a backup screen lock method. Alongside the typical pattern, pin and password, each option also includes a fingerprint and “Face,” setting.

The user wasn’t able to set up face unlock in this phase or later.

Following this, 9to5Google did some digging into Android 12 and discovered that coding had been hidden within the Pixel 6 Pro since its initial build back in October.

Back in October, German and UK retailers had marketing material that indicated the Pixel 6 offered face unlock. However, the material was apparently incorrect.

It’s unclear if the Pixel 6 Pro will get the update in the future or what exactly is going on.
