Dbrand’s December-released limited leather skins are now a permanent part of its store

Dbrand launched its limited-edition full-grain and vegetable-tanned skins for smartphones that are made out of real cow skin earlier in December. Due to popular demand, Dbrand is bringing the leather skins back, and this time, they’ll be a permanent part of the Mississauga, ON-based company’s online store.

The smartphone skins are available for $34.95 for all major smartphone brands’ offerings, $69.95 for laptops and notebooks,  $29.95 for Sony’s PlayStation 5, and $19.95 for the Nintendo Switch.

The skins are available in Black, Brown and Tan colourways, and are in stock for the latest Samsung S22 lineup, Pixel 6/6 Pro and iPhone 13 variants.

According to Dbrand, the leather used for the skins is 100 percent authentic (“Cows died for this,” the site mentions), full-grain, vegetable-tanned, and the skins are just 0.5mm thick, about 0.3mm thicker than the brand’s vinyl skins. In addition to skins, Dbrand is also offering its Grip Case for smartphones with leather skins for the back, though that does take the price all the way up to $54.90 from $34.95.

Oh and if that wasn’t enough, Dbrand is also selling what it mentions on its website as “Extras,” with leather balms, leather keytags, a three-pack of microfiber cloth, leather Rubik’s cube and even a pyramid. Check those out here.

Dbrand offers free shipping on its leather skins, cases and “Extras.” Browse through them here.

Bell acquires Quebec based telecom provider EBOX

The largest independent internet provider in Quebec is no longer an independent company — telecom giant Bell has bought out EBOX.

Based in Longueuil, Quebec, the company provided internet, telephone, and television services to consumers across Quebec and parts of Ontario.

Bell said it would maintain the EBOX brand, created 25 years ago, in a statement announcing the acquisition.

“The acquisition of EBOX will further strengthen Bell’s presence in Quebec, a key market for our business,” Karine Moses, vice-chair of Bell in Québec, said in a statement.

Bell says Quebec residents will benefit from the merger given its investments in network infrastructure in the province. This will allow the Quebec-based company to grow its resource and provide a larger scale to deliver its services.

“This acquisition will enable EBOX to continue to provide great value and service to our customers … and make EBOX available to even more residents and businesses in the years to come,” Isis Thiago De Souza, VP of EBOX, said in a statement.

The founders of EBOX initiated the sale, Bell notes in the statement. It will continue operations in Longueuil, Québec.

Koodo to remove $58/15GB promo and $52/8GB plans on February 27

Telus flanker brand Koodo will stop offering its $52/mo 8GB and $58/mo 15GB plans on February 27th.

In a recent update to its website, Koodo added new text detailing the “offer” end date to both plans. However, it’s worth noting that the $58/mo 15GB option was the only promotional offer.

The move comes after both Fido and Virgin Plus tweaked plans to replace their $52/8GB and $58/15GB plans with $55/8GB and $60/15GB plans respectively. It’s unclear what plans Koodo will offer on February 27th once it removes the old offers, but I’d be surprised if Koodo didn’t match Fido and Virgin.

This will likely mark the end of Koodo’s $58/15GB promo plan, which has been available on and off since January 22nd.

Koodo plans as of February 25th, 2022.

As a refresher, the $58 promo plan was actually a 10GB plan with a 5GB data bonus. It’s possible Koodo may follow Fido and keep the $58/10GB plan but remove the bonus data. Regardless, we’ll see what happens in a few days.

Koodo does still offer ‘Starter’ plans that are cheaper and have less data, but Koodo also restricts those to bring-your-own-phone customers.

Finally, it’s also worth keeping in mind that Koodo recently added data speed caps to its plans, limiting them from going over 100Mbps down. While 100Mbps is likely still suitable for most mobile tasks, it’s frustrating that yet another restriction has been added to Canadian cell phone plans.

You can view Koodo’s plans here.

Dune is coming to Crave in March

Dune (2021) will begin streaming on Crave on March 18th, Bell has confirmed.

The company had been promoting the March window in Crave commercials throughout February, but it’s now confirming a specific day.

Dune was originally released in October 2021, at which time it debuted in U.S. theatres and on the U.S.-only HBO Max service. However, the film only opened in Canadian theatres, with Warner Bros. Canada only later making it available on premium video on demand (PVOD) platforms in December. March 18th marks the first time the film is being offered through a Canadian subscription streaming service.

Directed by Canada’s own Denis Villeneuve, Dune is the first in an ambitious two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal epic sci-fi 1965 novel. Dune: Part One follows Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) and his family as they get caught up in a war on a deadly and inhospitable sand planet. The film is up for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The sequel is set to hit theatres in October 2023.

A Crave Total subscription costs $19.99 CAD/month, while a Mobile plan is priced at $9.99/month.
