Freedom is reportedly offering a 15GB for $35 plan

Freedom Mobile is reportedly offering a bring your own device promotion with 15GB of data for $35 per month.

First shared by RedFlagDeals user ‘ikeny,’ the promotion is not listed on Freedom’s website, however, it is advertised and available in Freedom Mobile, Best Buy and The Mobile Shop stores.

According to ‘ikeny,’ the only downside to getting the promotion in-store is that you’ll likely have to pay a $45 activation/service fee, though they also provide a workaround.

‘ikeny’ says that they spoke to a Freedom Mobile chat agent, who was able to give them the promotion, minus the service fee; however, your mileage may vary.

Regularly, Freedom offers its 15GB bring your own device plan for $45/month.  The promotional plan is likely a result of a $10 holiday digital discount for $10 per month for 24 months, effectively bringing the price down to $35/month.

Find more information about the promotional plan here.

New iPad Pro with wireless charging will reportedly release in 2022

Apple reportedly has plans to release three iPad models in 2022, including a new iPad Pro, entry-level iPad and iPad Air, according to Bloomberg’s often-reliable Mark Gurman and his Power On newsletter.

On the iPad Pro side, Gurman says that he expects the new version of Apple’s high-end iPad to feature wireless charging and reverse-wireless charging, allowing the tablet to charge iPhones, AirPods and more. On the other hand, the entry-level iPad will likely feature a new processor, but beyond this, the report doesn’t delve into any details. There’s a possibility it could feature a thinner, more squared-off design in-line with the new iPad mini.

Regarding the iPad Air, Bloomberg’s report indicates the tablet will offer features more in-line with the new iPad mini, including an A15 Bionic chip, Center Stage and 5G connectivity. Given that the Air hasn’t been updated in over a year, it makes sense for Apple to release a new tablet version in 2022.

Beyond iPads, Gurman’s report also says that Apple has several new Apple Watch models in the works — including a rugged model — and roughly five new Macs on the way. All of these devices are rumoured to launch at some point in 2022.

With Apple also reportedly working on an AR headset of some sort that’s tipped to release in the new year, 2022 is shaping up to be significant year of releases for the company.

New Pixel wallpapers celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Google has been killing it with some stellar wallpapers for Pixel phones recently. Not only do the wallpapers look great, but they’re often socially aware and meant to highlight things like Hispanic Heritage Month, Mental Health Awareness Day and National Native American Heritage Month.

The most recent set of wallpapers celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities and are illustrated by B.C.-based First Nations artist Dana Kearley.

The new wallpapers look absolutely fantastic, and the wealth of colour play well with Android 12’s Material You theme system.

You can find the new wallpapers (along with others, like those celebrating International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples) in the ‘Curated Cultures’ section of the Pixel wallpapers app on the Pixel 3 and newer.

Canadians launched hundred of wireless and internet complaints against telecom giants to watchdog: report

Increasing numbers of Canadians are lodging complaints against telecom providers for the services they offer, according to the annual report published by the Commission for Complaints for Telecom-television Services (CCTS).

When a customer and telecom or TV service providers have a dispute they can’t resolve, consumers have the option to go to the CCTS for further assistance. Between August 2020 and July 2021, the CCTS accepted 17,000 complaints from Canadians over internet, phone, and TV services.

This is a nine percent increase from the year prior, largely driven by the increase in complaints about internet services.

More than 42,000 issues were examined, as one complaint can have a number of issues. 10 brands received more than 80 percent of the complaints.

The most complained about category was wireless services. Disclosure issues were the leading complaint for this service, occurring nearly 6,000 separate times. The report states disclosure is breached when information isn’t clearly provided.

Bell has the most disclosure issues with 1,487 complaints. This was a 34 percent decrease from last year. Rogers had 944, a 24 percent increase. The biggest increase was Videotron, at 75 percent with 770 issues.

The second most complained about category is the internet. Quality of service was the leading issue, with 2,532 complaints, likely because of the world’s increasing dependence because of pandemic

TV was in third place, and for the second time in the last three years, had seen a decline in complaints. Incorrect charges were the leading issue, with 827 complaints, a 12 percent decrease from the year prior.

Bell represented 20 percent of all complaints, an eight percent decrease from the year prior. Rogers was in second with 13.9 percent, Fido in third with 10 percent, and Telus in fourth with seven percent complaints.

Nearly 9 out of every 10 complaints, or 88 percent, were resolved by the CCTS. However, 23 percent of complaints lead to a full investigation where service provider conduct was examined.

This is measured in four aspects: wireless code for mobile wireless services, deposit and disconnection (D&D) code for home phones, television service provider (TVSP) for subscription TV services, and the internet code for all fixed internet services provided by the largest 10 internet providers.

Wireless code

This aspect guards the rights and obligations of customers with contracts in wireless voice and data services.

After investigations, this category was confirmed to have 96 breaches, a 48 percent
decrease from the year prior.

The report notes this is driven by a specific decline from Telus-owned Koodo. Last year the provider had 101 breaches of the wireless code and this year it only had four.

The biggest year-over-year change was seen in the “clarity” section. This occurs when a service provider fails to provide accurate information when communicating with customers. There were 14 confirmed breaches. In the year prior, there was only one.

The most breaches were seen in the “contracts and related documents” section, with a total of 29 complaints.

Bell had the most wireless code breaches with a total of 29. They had 27 last year.

Rogers also saw an increase, with 25 breaches this year, compared to 17 last year.

Freedom Mobile had the biggest year-over-year increase (400 percent) with a total of five complaints.

Fido, Telus, and Koodo all saw a decrease in this section.

Internet code

This was the first full year of the CCTS examining the Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission’s (CRTC) internet code.

It ensures people are informed of their rights and responsibilities, and understand the contracts, plans, and promotions internet providers bring forward.

There were 18 confirmed breaches of the code this year: 14 from Bell, and one each from Eastlink, Rogers, Shaw and Virgin Plus.

TVSP code

This code focuses on helping Canadians understand service agreements and applies only to residential customers.

In total there were five confirmed breaches, a decrease from the seven reported last year. Bell and Videotron had two breaches each and Rogers had one.

D&D code

This specifically applies to consumers who use home phones. The code aims to provide protection in the event a telecom company cuts off service.

Five confirmed breaches were reported. Three of these came from Bell and two from Comwave.

“We encourage providers to continue listening to consumers and actively work with their customers to fix problems as they arise. When they are unsuccessful, we are here to help consumers resolve disputes with their service provider,” Howard Maker, commissioner and CEO of CCTS, said in a statement.

Here’s how to take/make FaceTime calls on macOS Monterey

If you’re running iOS 15 and macOS Monterey, answering incoming FaceTime calls or starting new ones has never been easier.

Before we look into how to make/take calls, here are a few things worth noting:

  1. Your iPhone and Mac device should be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID
  2. Your iPhone and Mac device should be signed in to FaceTime with the same Apple ID
  3. Your iPhone and Mac device should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network

Settings on your iPhone

Your Mac can not take/make calls unless your iPhone allows it. To turn the feature on, head to ‘Settings,’ scroll down to ‘Phone’ and tap on ‘Calls on Other Devices.’

Toggle on ‘Allow Calls on Other Devices’ and a list of devices with the same iCloud account will appear below. From there, proceed to select your Mac.

Settings on your Mac

Open the FaceTime app on your Mac and head to the top bar. Tap on FaceTime on the top left and select ‘Preferences.’

A new pop-up window will open where you need to check ‘Calls From iPhone.’

How to make FaceTime calls from your Mac

Once you’ve completed all the steps listed above, making FaceTime calls from your Mac would work similarly to how you do it on your iPhone.

Open the FaceTime app on your Mac and enter the phone number you want to call. You will be presented with two options, ‘Audio’ and ‘Video.’ Proceed with however you wish to contact the person.

An easier way would be to go to contacts, click on the person’s name you want to call, and then tap FaceTime.

Further, clicking the (i) button/information button in your recent call history will bring up a pop-up, from which you can also initiate a FaceTime call.

Accepting FaceTime calls from your Mac

The only pre-requisite to accepting FaceTime calls on a Mac is that you ensure you’ve followed all the settings mentioned above. To re-iterate, your iPhone and Mac device should be signed in to iCloud and FaceTime with the same Apple ID, along with being connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Any incoming FaceTime call on your iPhone will also ring on your Mac, provided your Mac is active. When your phone rings, a pop-up will automatically appear on the top right of your Mac screen.

See the image below for reference:

Once accepted, you can add more people to the call, change audio options, including Voice Isolation and Wide-Spectrum mode, pause the call, SharePlay and much more.

What was your favourite game of 2021?

With the end of the year fast approaching, Canada’s Geoff Keighley’s annual ‘The Game Awards’ are just around the corner on December 9th.

With that in mind, we want to know: what was your favourite game of 2021?

This year’s Game Awards nominees include Deathloop, It Takes Two, Metroid Dread, Psychonauts 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Resident Evil Village. But there were plenty of other great games that came out that this year, too, like Hitman 3, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Little Nightmares II, Far Cry 6, Forizon Horizon 5, the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes and Halo Infinite.

Personally, my favourite game of the year was Deathloop. I absolutely loved that title and how there are so many ways to play it, not to mention its cool weapons and even better powers. Elden Ring is also great, but I only experienced the game’s Closed Network Test (it’ll be on my list when it releases next year).

Here are some of the favourite 2021 games from MobileSyrup‘s other staff writers:

  • Brad Shankar: Deathloop
  • Brad Bennett: Loop Hero
  • Patrick O’Rouke: Halo Infinite
  • Jon Lamont: Halo Infinite
  • Karandeep Oberoi: FIFA 22

Let us know in the comments below what your favourite game of 2021 was.
