Galaxy Watch 4 update brings new gestures and customization options

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 series is getting a slew of new updates that offer gesture controls and customization options.

The first of the updates is an ‘Info Brick’ watch face that lets users add their favourite stats, including heart rate, stress and your daily activity status. There’s also a new weather forecast, basic dashboard and live wallpapers inspired by the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3.

You can also choose a moving GIF for your My Photo+ watch face to create a more lively watch face. Additionally, you can add four Complications to your Animal watch face.

The update also brings more playful animations to your Step Challenge watch face to keep track of how steps. This animated bear will also stretch and cheer you on.

Further, Samsung has added new gesture controls, allowing users to rotate their wrist twice to reject calls or dismiss alarms. And finally, there’s also a new hand motion that can use as a shortcut to your favourite apps or features.

Xbox is opening up its console feature testing program to more people

Xbox is making its Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead feature testing rings available to more people.

To gain access to the invite-only club, Microsoft is now inviting gamers to complete a survey to potentially be considered.

This survey will be accessible to Xbox Insiders (regardless of ring or length of time as an Insider) in the Xbox Insider Hub. From there, select ‘Activities,’ go to ‘Available’ and scroll down to ‘Joining new rings.’ This will bring up the survey.

Those who complete the survey and are ultimately chosen will be notified via a notice on their Xbox console. Xbox says it doesn’t share specific information on how it selects testers, but a “variety of factors like high-quality submitted feedback, quest/survey participation, and playing games” are considered.

Typically, Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead testers will receive early access to upcoming features before those in other Insider rings.

Apple’s MagSafe Duo Charger is currently $133 on Amazon

DealSyrup continues.

As first reported by our friends over at iPhone in Canada, Apple’s MagSafe Duo Charger is currently 21 percent off on Amazon, bringing its price down to $132.99 from $169.99. While not a massive discount, Apple’s products rarely go on sale and this is the cheapest we’ve seen the charger so far.

The MagSafe Duo allows you to charge the iPhone, Apple Watch or AirPods with a wireless charging case. What makes the Duo charger unique is it’s capable of charging two devices at the same time. It’s also worth noting that the charger works with other Qi-compatible devices, including Android smartphones.

While I haven’t used the MagSafe Duo Charger myself, it’s received relatively positive reviews, with most citing its expensive price tag as the most significant issue. However, it’s worth noting that like Apple’s iPhone, it doesn’t include an AC adapter in the box.

Apple’s MagSafe Duo Charger is available on Amazon for $132.99.

Google announces several new Android features in time for the holidays

Android is getting a suite of new features for the holidays.

The first of these, ‘Family Bell,’ lets you and your family stay on track with your schedules. The feature works with your Android phone, home speaker, smart display and notifications will alert you and your family throughout the day.

Google has also added three new widgets — one for Google Play Books, another for YouTube Music and a third for Google Photos — that put your family on the Home screen.

Further, there are new Memories in Google Photos that help you look at previous holidays like New Year’s Eve or Halloween as well as birthdays and graduations. You can choose to rename, personalize, correct or remove these Memories.

Additionally, Android Auto is letting users reply to messages with quick smart reply options, so you can just tap on the dashboard. There’s also a new always-on play button on the Home screen, and you’ll soon be able to voice search for music in your Android Auto media apps.

Another feature Google announced is the ability to unlock your BMW cars with your Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro and Galaxy S21’s digital car key.

Additionally, there’s a new Gboard update that lets you combine emojis, like combining a ‘pupper’ emoji with a sad face. This feature is available for Gboard Beta users today and will come to everyone else in the coming weeks.

Amazon Canada currently has the Bose Frames, a pair of audio sunglasses with built-in headphones on sale.

As shared by RedFlagDeals user ‘DoorCrasher,’ The Bluetooth-enabled sunglasses are available for $124.99, marking a $124.01 discount from the regular $249 price tag.

Available in two different models, Alto and Rando, the Bluetooth Audio Sunglasses promise to deliver in-ear headphones quality sound without the in-ear headphones, allowing you to listen to music while staying aware of your surroundings.

The glasses feature a button on the right side that powers on/off the device and is also used to play and pause music and activate your smartphone’s virtual assistant. You can take calls or talk to the virtual assistant with the built-in microphone.

The Bose Frames are IPX-2 water-resistant, which technically speaking isn’t great, but considering that these are glasses, they aren’t likely to get in direct contact with water.

Your Android device will soon remind you to reply to messages

We usually nudge people to get their attention. Now, Google is doing the same thing with its Android Messages app.

First seen in the development phase back in September, the ‘Nudge’ feature is meant to remind you of unread texts and messages you might have forgotten to reply to. Now, as XDA Developers points out, the feature is rolling out to some users.

According to XDA, the feature offers a couple of toggles, including the following:

  • Suggest messages to reply to: Messages you might have forgotten to respond to will appear at the top of your inbox.
  • Suggest messages to follow up on: Messages you might need to follow up on will appear at the top of your inbox.

Once the feature is live for you, you’ll see that messages you might have forgotten to respond to or messages that you might need to follow up on will appear at the top of your inbox.

While the feature doesn’t seem to be live for us at MobileSyrup, you can head to the Messages app, navigate to Settings -> Suggestions and check if there is a ‘Nudge’ option at the bottom.

You can also head to APKMirror to grab the latest Google Messages 10.8.260 beta build.

The PS5 has a new system update, but it doesn’t do much

If you noticed that your PS5 has a new system update, you should know that it doesn’t include much in the way of changes.

Per the official PlayStation site, update version: 21.02-04.03.00 simply “improves system performance.” It’s unclear exactly what improvements were made in the patch.

However, it’s not exactly surprising that this is a light update; the console received a substantial one in September. That update added long-awaited M.2 SSD support, expanded 3D audio functionality for TV speakers and more.

With only one month left in the year, it’s unlikely that we’ll get any major new PS5 system updates. That said, we will undoubtedly soon learn about new games coming to the PS5. This year’s Game Awards, where dozens of upcoming games are expected to be featured, will be held on Thursday, December 9th.

You can read more about the nominees here.

Tesla’s $50 ‘Cyberwhistle’ is already sold out

Similar to The Boring Company’s Flamethrower, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stealth revealed a $50 (roughly $64 CAD) ‘Cyberwhistle’ that’s already sold out.

Why did Tesla launch a Cybertruck-shaped whistle? We’ll likely never know.

The pricey whistle’s description states that it is “Inspired by [the] Cybertruck’ and that the “Cyberwhistle is a premium collectible made from medical-grade stainless steel with a polished finish. The whistle includes an integrated attachment feature for added versatility.”

As expected, this is a limited-edition accessory that you likely already can’t get your hands on unless you’re willing to dive into the reseller market because it’s entirely sold out. Musk even compared the Cyberwhistle to Apple’s $35 cleaning cloth, suggesting that those who like expensive products should “buy our whistle instead.”

While the actual Cybertruck has over a million reservations, it’s unclear when the anticipated and oddly designed electric vehicle (EV) will actually release. Tesla most recently delayed the Cybertruck until 2022.
