Uber Eats now offers cannabis products

Ontario residents can now place a pickup order for their favourite cannabis products from Tokyo Smoke through the Uber Eats app.

The two organizations entered a partnership that went into effect Monday. Uber Eats users can now access a new, dedicated, section on the app that allows them to select products from the Tokyo Smokes flower collection and a range of accessories. The retailer has 56 locations across the province, according to its website. All orders are completed within an hour of being placed.

“We are partnering with industry leaders like Tokyo Smoke to offer safe, convenient options for people in Ontario to purchase legal cannabis,” Lola Kassim, general manager of Uber Eats Canada, said in a press release.”By combining a streamlined ordering process through the Uber Eats app with Tokyo Smoke’s in-person pickup service, we’re creating a new end-to-end experience for responsible cannabis ordering across the province.”

The underground illegal cannabis market continues to be an issue in Canada, and the companies say a partnership like this can help combat that. According to Stats Canada, the underground market accounts for 40 percent of all nonmedical cannabis sales.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Log onto the Uber Eats apps and select the cannabis category or search for Tokyo Smoke. A warning will come up asking the user to confirm their age.

Step 2: Once the age is confirmed, users will be able to select what products they would like to place for pick up.

Step 3: Place your order and head over to the selected store where an employee will check identification and fulfill the order.

Uber Eats’ app is available on iOS and Android.

11 Nintendo Switch Games are on sale right now (and 7 of them are actually great)

Potential security breach may have compromised Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccine portal

A potential security breach has been discovered and may have compromised Ontatio’s COVID-19 vaccine booking portal. Multiple reports of individuals who have used the portal have come forward and said they have received spam text messages.

Marion Ringuette, director of communications for the Solicitor General has confirmed the reports and responded with a public statement. Ringuette urges those who have received spam texts to disregard them as the Ontario government would not reach out via text in this manner.

“Ontarians should be aware these texts are financial in nature and that the government will never conduct a financial transaction through these methods,” said Marion Ringuette said in a statement.

Ringuette has also confirmed that the Solicitor General is working alongside partner ministries and the Ontario Provincial Police to investigate the reports and identify the severity of the security breach.

Over the weekend, Ontario Premier Doug Ford stated that he was briefed about the investigation. “I’ve had a conversation with my chief of staff, principal secretary and secretary of cabinet and they have all hands on deck on all our ministry especially or Ministry of Health, and I’m confident with the group that we have down there,” Ford said earlier today.

The Ontario COVID-19 vaccine portal was built to streamline the ways residents can book their vaccine appointments and access vaccine certificates following the immunization process. This potential breach comes only days after Ontario announces children between the ages of five and 11 can be vaccinated.

Solicitor General Sylvia Jones was asked to comment on the matter. “This investigation, and any investigation when we hear of potential breaches, we investigate thoroughly,” Jones stated.

Based on current reports, it doesn’t appear as though it is a massive breach, meaning anyone booking through the portal will be a target to spam. However, those who wish to be cautious should remain so and see how the situation escalates throughout the week.

Sony patents PlayStation 5 faceplates, opens possibility of official replacements

Sony has been granted a patent for PlayStation 5 faceplates. The design patent for the removable plates fixed to both sides of the console was recently spotted online and has since sparked debate on what Sony could be planning.

OP Attack first discovered the patent for Sony’s PlayStation 5 faceplates was granted on November 16th, 2021. However, Sony initially filed for the patent on November 5th, 2020, a week before the launch of the PlayStation 5 in North America.

The patent covers both faceplates of the PlayStation 5 and is described as an “ornamental design for a cover for electronic device.” Product developer Yujin Morisawa is credited as the inventor of the faceplates within the patent filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Earlier this year, Toronto-based DBrand found itself threatened with legal action from Sony after the company started selling its own matte black PlayStation 5 ‘Darkplates.’ The company was so bold that it encourages Sony to sue it, and unsurprisingly, the tech giant eventually followed through. DBrand was then forced to pull the original faceplates from its store and replace them with a new design.

PlayStation 5 owners have been clamouring for alternative faceplate options. Sony has not currently confirmed whether a black option will officially be available. However, it has started branching out. The company is currently selling a ‘Midnight Black’ version of its DualSense controller and Pulse 3D Audio Headset.

It isn’t surprising to see Sony filed the patent ahead of the PlayStation 5 launch. The company likely had enough foresight to know third-party companies would try to offer custom designs. The real major question remaining is whether or not the Sony will begin selling its own standalone faceplates, allowing PS5 owners to customize the aesthetic of their console with an official option.

Facebook’s Oculus Quest 2 is $70 off on Amazon and Best Buy

You can buy an Oculus Quest 2 from Amazon or Best Buy and get a $70 digital credit.

The promotion is applicable to both the new 128GB variant introduced in August and the 256GB storage version.

The 128GB Quest 2 is currently listed for $399.99 at Amazon and Best Buy. With the new promotion, you get a $70 digital discount, essentially bringing the price down to $329.99. Similarly, the 256GB headset is listed for $549.99, but with the promotion applied, you spend $479.99.

Purchase the Oculus Quest 2 from Amazon before November 29th with promo code ‘OCULUS70,’ and you’ll receive an email with your digital discount.

Purchase the Oculus Quest 2 from Best Buy and you’ll receive an email with a $70 Best Buy eGift card. If you decide to purchase the Quest 2 in-store, you’ll get a physical $70 eGift card on the spot.

It’s worth noting that last December, a small number of Oculus Quest 2 users experienced skin irritation due to the VR headset’s foam cushion gasket, prompting Facebook to halt the headset’s sale. Further, the company issued a voluntary joint recall with Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to replace the facial foam gasket. The VR headset has since been redesigned to solve this issue and rereleased.
