Rockstar Energy Drink teams up with Halo Infinite

Rockstar Energy Drink has released a teaser for an upcoming partnership with Xbox on Halo Infinite.

The PepsiCo product will launch on October 1st and feature a tie-in with the upcoming Halo series game. It’s unclear what the partnership will specifically entail, but I’m hoping to see a Rockstar Energy Drink logo on the Master Chief’s helmet or a Grunt aggressively running in circles after drinking a large can of Rockstar (I really hope this isn’t what the partnership is).

The 18-second teaser is almost Marvel Cinematic Universe movie-esque as it looks back at past Halo titles.

Halo Infinite will launch on December 8th across Xbox consoles and PC.

SpongeBob’s Idle Adventures launches on Android and iOS

Mobile game publisher Kongregate’s SpongeBob’s Idle Adventures is now available as a free download on Android and iOS.

In the management sim, SpongeBob and friends are accidentally transported to another dimension after playing with Sandy’s Vortex Machine. The gang will then need to try to return to their Bikini Bottom, all while dealing with alternate versions of themselves.

As a management sim, Idle Adventures tasks players with maintaining various classic SpongeBob locations like the Krusty Krab and Chum Bucket by hiring workers and using other resources. You’ll be able to play as familiar characters like SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, Squidward and Mr. Krabs. Along the way, you’ll rank up and get closer to repairing the Vortex Machine.

The game features in-app purchases to spend real money to acquire in-game items and currency.

Epic’s free games this week include ‘Nioh’ and ‘Sheltered’

If you’re looking for a new game to play, but aren’t keen on spending money, the Epic Games Store just rolled out this week’s free game offerings: Nioh and Sheltered.

The two games will be available for free on the Epic Game Store until September 16th. As with Epic’s other free game offerings, users can claim the game but don’t need to download it until they’re ready to play.

Nioh is an action game from Team Ninja — players will take on the role of a samurai and fight vicious warriors and monsters in Japan. Epic is giving away the ‘Complete Edition,’ which includes the Dragon of the North, Defiant Honor and Bloodshed’s End expansions. Additionally, since this is the PC version of the game, players will get 4K Ultra-HD support, cross-play with Steam players and more.

Sheltered, on the other hand, is a survival management game where players try to keep a family alive in a harsh, post-apocalyptic world.

To claim either or both games, you’ll need to download the Epic Games Store app on your PC (available here) and sign in with an Epic Games account.

Telus to expand 5G to Greater Montreal regions in $90 million investment

Vancouver-based national telecom Telus announced plans to expand its 5G network to the Montreal, Lanaudière, Laurentides and Montérégie regions.

The expansion comes as part of a larger $90 million investment in infrastructure in the Greater Montreal area, itself part of a $9 billion investment in Quebec through 2024. Through the expansion, Telus says that customers in over 70 additional communities will have access to its 5G network.

“The significant investments we are making in our world-leading network to rapidly expand our 5G footprint is enabling us to connect the citizens of the Greater Montreal to the people, resources and critical information they need as we continue to navigate the global pandemic,” said Darren Entwistle, president and CEO of Telus.

Telus notes that it leverages multiple vendors, including Samsung, Ericsson and Nokia to power its 5G network. The carrier says it plans to expand 5G to over 615 communities, including 157 in Quebec, and aims to cover over 70 percent of the Canadian population by the end of the year.

Interestingly, Telus also cited an Opensignal report that gave the carrier several awards, including Fastest 5G Download and Upload Speeds, Best 5G Video Experience, Best 5G Availability and more. However, it’s worth noting that Telus tied with Bell and, sometimes, Rogers in several of those sectors. Additionally, Opensignal’s most recent 5G experience report showed Rogers breaking away from the three-way ties to claim the best 5G Availability and Reach, although Bell and Telus retained their lead in download speeds.

Insomniac is making a Wolverine game for PlayStation 5

As if Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 wasn’t enough, Insomniac Games is also working on a game based on Marvel’s Wolverine character for PlayStation 5.

The announcement came during PlayStation Showcase 2021, although no further details were revealed. In a brief 45-second CG trailer, Wolverine can be seen being approached by someone in a bar before popping his signature claws.

In the past year, Insomniac has already released Miles Morales and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, so the fact that it’s working on two big upcoming Marvel games is particularly impressive.

In a PlayStation Blog post, Insomniac noted that Brian Horton, the creative director on Miles Morales, is leading development on Marvel’s Wolverine. However, the game is still “very early” on, with Insomniac head of franchise strategy & studio relations Ryan Schneider simply promising an “emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay.”

A release window for Marvel’s Wolverine has not yet been confirmed.
