Elon Musk tries to stop The Onion from acquiring InfoWars’ account on X

The Onion’s acquisition of InfoWars, recently auctioned off as part of the liquidation of its controversial owner, Alex Jones, in order to pay off his defamation victims, has no doubt caused a commotion among right-wingers.

It also seems to be causing a stir with Elon Musk, who is reportedly trying to do all he can to block access to the InfoWars account on X by its new owner, The Onion.

Musk claims, via his X social network, that he decides whether to give permission for the sale or transfer of X accounts.

According to him, he is not obliged to hand over the keys of the controversial and very popular InfoWars account to its new owner, the satirical site The Onion.

The social network has filed a “limited objection” to the sale of InfoWars in Texas. While Musk and his company do not object to the sale generally, X asserts that its users do not own their accounts and cannot sell or transfer them without its authorization.

According to the terms of use, X Corp. owns the X accounts and specifies that the company only grants its users a non-exclusive license to use them.

Recall that The Onion recently announced that it had acquired InfoWars, but that First United American Companies, an alleged losing bidder, as well as ex-owner Alex Jones, objected to the sale.

They claim that First United American Companies would have offered a higher sum than The Onion, and accuse the liquidator overseeing the auction of collusion with the Sandy Hook families and the satirical site.

Alex Jones’ business was put up for auction because of court rulings requiring him to pay $1.5 billion to the families and loved ones of the victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre, due to the false accusations he repeated for years, claiming that the shooting was a “hoax” and that the parents and victims were actors.

The deal to sell to The Onion is currently on hold pending a court hearing scheduled for next month.

Trump threatens Canada and Mexico with 25% tariffs

Donald Trump, currently preparing for his imminent arrival in the White House in January 2025, has named two new targets as part of his campaign promise to impose tariffs on goods imported into the US via other countries.

He is now forwarding to Canada and Mexico, which he accuses in the same breath of being migrant sieves.

JUST IN: President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to impose massive hikes on goods from China, Mexico and Canada on his first day in office.

CNN (@cnn.com) 2024-11-26T00:28:59.387Z

Donald Trump made the announcement on his social network, Truth Social, stating that he plans to impose a 25% tariff on products imported from Mexico and Canada, presenting the proposal as a measure against the current fentanyl crisis in the US.

Getty Images

Trump claims that his decision to impose tariffs on Mexico and Canada, the US’s two largest trading partners accounting for nearly 30% of the country’s trade volume, is, he says, driven by the need to combat illegal immigration, as well as crime and drugs crossing the border.

Getty Images

Trump claims in his post that all products from his border partners will be taxed because of “open borders”, which he deems “ridiculous”.

He adds that these tariffs will remain in place as long as drugs, naming “fentanyl” in particular, as well as “all illegal immigrants”, stop “this invasion of our country”.

Recall that these tariffs contravene an agreement between the three countries negotiated by Trump himself, namely the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement), which was renegotiated during Donald Trump’s first term and came into effect in July 2020.

Among the goods traded commercially between the US, Canada and Mexico under this agreement, several important sectors will be affected by Trump’s decisions, including dairy products, paper products, wood building materials and the vehicle manufacturing industry.

Jack Smith drops charges against Donald Trump

Special prosecutor Jack Smith got approval from U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan for his request to drop all federal charges against Donald Trump, president-elect-to-be.

These charges related to two major cases: the improper handling of classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago residence, as well as his attempts to subvert the 2020 presidential election, following his defeat by Joe Biden.

One of the major cases against Trump is currently being considered by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, following a request by Jack Smith, after District Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the case against the ex-president earlier this summer, ruling that the appointment of Special Prosecutor Jack Smith was unlawful.

Getty Images

Recall that Donald Trump was indicted in this case in June 2023 in a Miami federal court, facing 37 criminal counts related to the mishandling of classified documents later found at Mar-a-Lago, his Florida residence, and that he refused to return them at the FBI’s request.

Charges against Trump in the case included deliberate withholding of national defense information, falsifying statements and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Jack Smith’s other case against Trump involved charges that he illegally conspired to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Charges included conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstructing and attempting to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.

The cases against Trump were significantly affected by a Supreme Court ruling that Trump enjoyed presidential immunity for any action taken in the course of his duties.

Before the latter won the 2024 election, Jack Smith was working to readjust the charges to reflect this new perspective.

Special Prosecutor Jack Smith and his team will resign before Trump takes office in the White House. Trump has said he will fire Smith as soon as he takes office.

After “Barbenheimer”, “Glicked” is here!

Although the buzz around Gladiator 2 and Wicked is less intense than that around Barbie and Oppenheimer, it’s now safe to say that “Glicked” is the first pair of films to come close since Barbenheimer’s mega-success in the summer of 2023.

Millions around the world flocked to see “Wicked” and “Gladiator II” in theaters during their opening weekend. But “Glicked” fell short of the record-breaking performance of “Barbenheimer.”

NBC News (@nbcnews.com) 2024-11-24T20:27:14.317Z

Last weekend marked the grand theatrical premiere of two of 2024’s most eagerly awaited films, Gladiator 2 and Wicked, and the excitement and buzz were palpable in cinemas around the world.

It’s unlikely that the “Glicked” phenomenon will reach the same intensity as that provoked by Barbie and Oppenheimer, which benefited from an exceptional marketing campaign in 2023.

In its first weekend, Wicked grossed $114 million at the box office, while Gladiator II took in over $55 million.

Matt Gaetz withdraws his candidacy for U.S. Attorney General

Matt Gaetz, Donald Trump’s controversial choice for Attorney General, who was in trouble with a report due out concerning serious allegations of, among other things, intimate relations with an underage girl, has announced that he is withdrawing his candidacy for Attorney General.

Breaking News: Matt Gaetz, President-elect Trump’s pick for attorney general, said he was withdrawing from consideration for the role. Follow live updates.

The New York Times (@nytimes.com) 2024-11-21T17:43:34.853Z

In a tweet, Gaetz confirmed his decision to withdraw his candidacy, explaining that he had “unfairly” become a distraction to the transition work of Donald Trump’s incoming administration.

https://twitter.com/mattgaetz/status/1859649045553402285

Recall that two days before the publication of a devastating House Ethics Committee report on an FBI human trafficking investigation involving Gaetz, and after being named by Donald Trump as his choice for Attorney General, Matt Gaetz had resigned as a representative from a Florida district.

This resignation immediately prevented the report from being posted, the contents of which will ultimately not be made public, following a majority vote in favor of keeping it under seal.

This decision did not assuage the indignation and criticism surrounding the appointment of a person facing such serious allegations to head one of the most important positions, that of U.S. Attorney General.

The New York Times had in fact obtained documents concerning payments made by Gaetz via Venmo, totaling almost $10,000, to two young women who were minors at the time of the alleged acts.

The New York Times (@nytimes.com) 2024-11-20T23:47:43.401Z

According to CNN, Gaetz’s decision to step down as Attorney General was motivated by the fear that even more compromising information might surface in the House Ethics Committee report, and that there might be previously unknown witnesses who had been questioned by the committee.

The latter is located just a few minutes from the fence the thieves hit during their escape, on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

According to sources quoted by The Sun, this burglary may have been meticulously planned.
