He was convicted of planning the assassination of FBI special agents investigating his role in the Capitol insurrection.

Kelly was convicted in November 2024, several months before receiving a presidential pardon from Donald Trump for his involvement in the events of January 6.
The court found the defendant guilty of three serious crimes, including conspiracy to murder U.S. government employees.

He received a life sentence for inciting an act of violence and threatening federal agents in an effort to intimidate or retaliate.
Federal prosecutors called Kelly a man “without the slightest remorse” for his actions. Describing himself as a “patriot”, he allegedly organized paramilitary exercises, planned his operation in detail and drew up a nominative list of federal agents to be shot.

It should be recalled that Kelly and his lawyers had tried, unsuccessfully, to use Donald Trump’s pardon to have his trial in this case overturned.
Donald Trump again threatened on Truth Social to revoke broadcast licenses from ABC and NBC.
President Trump lashed out on social media late Sunday against ABC and NBC, putting the nation's top broadcast regulator once more at the center of his culture wars. From @davidfolkenflik.bsky.social
He said the FCC should revoke their licenses to operate, because, he said, these networks publish “97%” bad stories about him.

On Truth Social, Trump began his post by claiming that, despite “a very high popularity” and the fact that many would describe his presidency as “among the greatest eight months in presidential history”, he receives unfair treatment.
According to him, two of the “the worst and most biased networks in history” would only offer him unfavorable coverage.

Trump continues his message by asserting that, “according to many”, the FCC should revoke the licenses of ABC and NBC. He adds that he would be “totally in favor” of this measure, as these channels would represent, in his opinion, “an actual threat to our democracy”.
The American president wanted Beijing to join the USA and Russia in trilateral talks aimed at global nuclear disarmament.
China called the proposal “unreasonable and unrealistic”.
Getty Images
Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun explained the refusal by pointing out that China’s nuclear arsenal could not be compared with those of the USA and Russia.
China stressed that its defense strategy is based on a “no-first-use” doctrine and is strictly defensive.

It’s worth remembering that Donald Trump wants to relaunch nuclear disarmament negotiations bringing together the USA, Russia and China, deeming it crucial to curb atomic proliferation.
Trump mentioned trade already underway with Vladimir Putin, and was counting heavily on Beijing’s involvement.
The health of 79-year-old Trump has been the subject of much comment for some time, following several appearances in which he presented swollen ankles and bruising on his left hand.
Faced with mounting questions and persistent symptoms, the White House chose to release a statement from Ronny Jackson, a former doctor without a medical license since 2021.
The disgraced doctor who gave up his full medical license claimed that Trump is “the healthiest president this nation has ever seen.”
Jackson, whose past is marked by controversy, including a demotion in the Navy following multiple accusations of misconduct, was chosen by the White House, rather than the current presidential physician, to assert that Trump was the healthiest president in the country’s history.

Jackson, a close Trump ally and former personal physician at the White House during his first term, has since given up his medical license to devote himself entirely to politics as a Republican member of the House of Representatives for Texas.
Trump’s former doctor is best known for his many extravagant comments about Trump’s health, having repeatedly described him as in “excellent health” and “fit for duty”.
Getty Images
He’s also gone further with outlandish statements, claiming in the past that “if he had a healthier diet, he might live to be 200 years old” and more recently that he was “the healthiest president the nation has ever seen”.
He added, in response to the many doubts about the president’s health, that he was “mentally and physically sharper than ever before”.

It was this same doctor, Ronny Jackson, who had assured that Donald Trump was fine after the assassination attempt in July 2024 in Butler, Pennsylvania. At the time, he declared that Trump was recovering as expected, despite the bullet wound.
Jackson has a nebulous past linked to his role as White House physician under Bush, Obama and Trump, as well as his time in the Navy. In 2018, when Trump nominated him for Secretary of Veterans Affairs, serious accusations resurfaced: alcohol abuse on duty, reckless prescriptions of nicknamed drugs, repeated tantrums, inappropriate comments and a toxic work climate.
He withdrew his candidacy.

An investigation by the Pentagon Inspector General, published in March 2021, confirms that these behaviors date mainly from 2012 to 2018. In July 2022, the Navy demoted him from Rear Admiral to Captain, sealing the end of his active military career and the start of his political career in the Republican Party.
The term “defense” in the name of the Department of Defense seems to strongly bother the President, who has stated that he wants to change the name completely, believing it to be “too defensive”.
Trump hints he will likely change the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War. “I don't want to be defense only,” the president said. “We want offense too.”
He said he wanted the department to revert to its former name, Department of War, abandoned in 1949 when the US armed forces were reorganized after the Second World War.

At the time, the change was aimed at adopting a unified, less aggressive approach, focused on national security in both peace and war.
Trump’s recent comments raise many questions about his future intentions, as he claims he no longer wants to be “too defensive”, while many point to his recent attacks on the sovereignty of certain allied countries.

Let’s recall that last March, Trump asserted that the United States would “go as far as necessary to take control of Greenland”, underlining its importance for national and international security.
Most recently, his administration has been accused of espionage and political interference in Greenland. It’s also worth recalling his threats towards Canada, mentioned as a possible 51ᵉ state, remarks for the time being deemed somewhat less aggressive than those aimed at Greenland.

Trump claimed that the change could be made in a week or a little more and that he doesn’t even think he needs congressional approval, declaring, “We’re just going to do it.”
The newspaper reported that Trump and his allies had allegedly tried to block the posting of details of a purported birthday card sent to Jeffrey Epstein on his 50th birthday, in which Trump allegedly inscribed an enigmatic message accompanied by a felt-tip drawing of a naked woman.
Getty Images
In his complaint, Trump accuses Rupert Murdoch, the Wall Street Journal, Dow Jones, News Corp and two journalists of defamation for publishing an article he calls “totally false”, accusing him of having sent an obscene birthday card to Jeffrey Epstein.
Getty Images
Trump also denounced the article as a deliberate attempt to damage his political reputation.

Following the publication of the Wall Street Journal article, the president claimed on Truth Social that he had personally warned Rupert Murdoch that the story was, in his opinion, entirely fabricated.
The strikes killed several civilians, destroyed many homes and damaged buildings including the British Council and the European Union delegation building.

Lammy said that “Putin’s strikes last night killed civilians, destroyed homes and damaged several buildings, including the British Council and the European Union delegation building in Kiev”.

He added: “We have summoned the Russian ambassador. This killing and destruction must stop”.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said after the Russian forward that the EU delegation building in Kiev had been “badly damaged”.

On the night of August 27-28, Russia carried out a massive air offensive against Kiev, deploying nearly 600 drones and more than 30 missiles.
These strikes targeted many of Kiev’s civilian districts, as well as diplomatic sites, killing at least 18 people, including four children, and injuring around 50 others.
The decision comes as Harris prepares to embark on a major promotional tour for her memoir 107 Days, about her brief 2024 presidential campaign, due for release on September 23.
Getty Images
According to the Washington Post, a senior White House official said the president sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem on August 28, formally requesting the end of Secret Service protection for Kamala Harris, effective September 1.
Normally, outgoing vice presidents receive Secret Service protection for six months after the end of their term.
Getty Images
In view of the country’s unprecedented political tensions, Joe Biden had extended Kamala Harris’s protection for another year, until July 2026.
Trump’s decision will have a considerable impact on the life of Kamala Harris, who is about to embark on her book tour.

The end of her 24/7 federal protection could force Kamala Harris to hire private security for her tour, which begins on September 24 in New York and ends on November 20 in Miami, Florida.
In the meantime, she will visit California, Texas, Illinois, Alabama, Tennessee and even Canada.
China will hold a parade in Beijing on September 3 to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will make a rare international visit next week to attend a military parade in the Chinese capital, both countries said Thursday.
On this occasion, Chinese President Xi Jinping has personally invited North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin as guests of honor.

No Western leader was on Xi Jinping’s guest list for this military parade, which brings together heads of state and government from several countries, including Russia, North Korea, Iran, Belarus and Pakistan.
According to NBC News and China’s official Xinhua news agency, heads of state and government from 26 countries will take part in the event.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has indicated that a “warm” welcome will be extended to the North Korean leader, for whom this will be a rare outing outside his country.
Columbia University has agreed to pay $220 million to the federal government as part of a controversial deal with the Trump administration.
JUST IN: Columbia University has agreed to pay more than $220 million in a deal with the Trump administration to restore federal funding to the school. cnn.it/41bvDfk
The move by the university is intended to bring closure to the Trump administration’s accusations of civil rights violations, particularly against Jewish students and staff, while allowing Columbia to recoup around $1.6 billion in federal funding that had been frozen.
Getty Images
However, the university acknowledges no wrongdoing in this agreement, reached under pressure from several federal agencies.
Many critics see it as a capitulation to the Trump administration, believing that these accusations are aimed above all at repressing pro-Palestine movements on campus, a priority stated by the administration as soon as it returns to power in January 2025.
Getty Images
While Columbia opted to strike a deal to quickly recover its funding, Harvard, the target of similar accusations, preferred to take the Trump administration to court, refusing to comply with the same demands despite the freezing of over $2 billion in federal funds.
Of the $220 million paid by Columbia, $200 million will go to the federal government as part of a civil settlement, and around $21 million will go to compensate Jewish students and employees who have filed discrimination claims.

Faced with the same accusations, Columbia chose agreement, Harvard confrontation, two opposing approaches that illustrate just how far universities are willing to go to defend their autonomy in the face of such political pressure.
