Moscow mocks US with video of captured vehicle sporting American flag

A recent video released by Russian state media shows an M113, an American armored vehicle used by Ukraine, captured by the Russian army and adorned with both a Russian and an American flag.

Russian state media, including the English-language propaganda arm RT, are distributing what’s likely a staged video of a Russian and American flag flying together on the back of a Russian military assault vehicle.

HuffPost (@huffpost.com) 2025-08-18T17:29:50.264Z

The footage, filmed near the front line in the Zaporijjia region, was widely picked up by pro-Kremlin channels and quickly went viral.

It provoked outrage in Ukraine, where it was seen as a provocation just as Volodymyr Zelensky and several European leaders were at the White House for peace talks with Donald Trump.

The release of the video also comes just days after Trump rolled out the red carpet for Vladimir Putin at a controversial meeting in Alaska.

According to Kyiv and its allies, this grotesque staging seeks to exploit the diplomatic context in order to diminish the importance of Western support for the peace negotiations.

Trump painted his wall black so migrants burn their hands if they try to climb it

Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security, recently announced in New Mexico that the border wall would be repainted entirely black, on the direct orders of President Donald Trump.

Trump’s wall at the southern U.S. border will be painted black in an attempt to make things worse for migrants crossing the border, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced.

The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast.bsky.social) 2025-08-20T11:53:24.783020Z

According to her, the paint is intended to make the surface warmer and therefore harder for migrants to climb.

Noem also pointed out that this would prevent rust and increase the structure’s durability.

The idea is not new, having already been proposed during Donald Trump’s first presidential term.

However, several sources, including the Washington Post, point out that a paint test carried out in 2019 had begun to peel in less than 18 months, casting doubt on the effectiveness of the process.

Trump thinks Netanyahu and him are “war heroes”

In an interview with conservative host Mark Levin, Donald Trump heaped praise on Benjamin Netanyahu before calling himself a “war hero”.

“He’s a war hero, because we work together. He’s a war hero,” President Trump said of the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, for ordering his country’s forces to bombard Iran. “I guess I am too,” Trump added.

The New York Times (@nytimes.com) 2025-08-20T13:40:03.866934Z

These remarks caused consternation among many observers.

Trump spared no praise for Netanyahu, calling him a “good man” and praising his role in bombing Iran’s nuclear sites.

But his remarks about the Israeli president soon took a strange, even uncomfortable turn, according to an article in the New York Times.

Referring to the Israeli bombing of Iranian nuclear sites, Trump presented Netanyahu as “a war hero”, stressing that these operations had been carried out jointly: “because we work together”.

In the process, he went so far as to call himself a “war hero”!

“He’s a war hero […] I guess I am too,” concluded the American president.

Trump: “I’m not a dictator”

In the Oval Office, Donald Trump defended his use of the National Guard in Washington D.C. as well as his threat to send federal troops to Chicago.

BREAKING | Trump says he is not a dictator but insists many people think the US could use one

The Independent (@the-independent.com) 2025-08-25T15:52:03.745Z

Asked about accusations of a possible authoritarian drift on his part, Trump asserted that he was “not a dictator”.

Getty Images

He added, however, that “a lot of people” might prefer to live under an authoritarian regime.

Trump noted that some people refer to him as a dictator, while others would, he said, show a certain fascination with this mode of governance: “A lot of people are saying: maybe we’d like a dictator.

Getty Images

In the end, the president stressed that, in his view, this simply doesn’t concern him:

“I don’t like a dictator. I’m not a dictator. I’m a man with great common sense, and I’m a smart person.”

Trump ready to invade Chicago

According to the Washington Post and CNN, having already deployed troops to the streets of Washington D.C., Trump has been preparing for several weeks to carry out his threat to invade Chicago as early as September.

The Trump administration has been planning for weeks to send the National Guard to Chicago, two officials told CNN, as President Trump looks to expand his anti-crime agenda and crackdown on immigration in major cities across the United States. https://cnn.it/45yvNjJ

CNN (@cnn.com) 2025-08-24T10:26:24.003935846Z

At Trump’s request, the Pentagon has prepared a military deployment plan for Chicago, calling for the mobilization of the National Guard as well as military troops in the city.

Getty Images

Trump justifies this military intervention with the need, he says, to combat the crime, homelessness and illegal immigration plaguing Chicago, problems he claims are found in most major cities… run by Democrats.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson are denouncing what they see as an “authoritarian attempt” by Trump and his administration, claiming that neither the city nor the state has requested such federal intervention.

Getty Images

They point out that similar deployments have already taken place recently in Los Angeles and Washington D.C., and insist that the decision is illegal and unfounded.

They point out that crime in Chicago is down, with fewer homicides and shootings, invalidating the idea of a crisis requiring such intervention.

However, these figures do not seem to weaken the resolve of Trump, whose decision to send federal troops into Democratic cities is judged by many opponents not as a security measure, but as an authoritarian drift.

Especially as he is now threatening to apply the same strategy to Baltimore and New York…

Trump fears he won’t get into heaven

US President Donald Trump, now 79, recently admitted he feared he wasn’t on track to enter heaven…

It was live during a television interview that Trump delivered this unusual reflection on his spiritual fate.

Getty Images

On the set of Fox & Friends, he chose to make this surprising confession as he discussed his diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

Trump suddenly linked his geopolitical ambition with a personal justification: to improve his chances of getting into heaven.

With such a statement, Donald Trump illustrates the constant that any initiative on his part, including diplomatic, remains conditional on what he can get out of it for himself.

Open AI’s Sam Altman accuses Mark Zuckerberg of trying to steal his employees with $100M bonuses

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has revealed that Mark Zuckerberg may have tried to lure some of his employees with bonuses of up to several million dollars, in a bid to recruit them for the “superintelligent” AI project that Meta recently unveiled.

OpenAI boss accuses Meta of trying to poach staff with $100m sign-on bonuses

The Guardian (@theguardian.com) 2025-06-18T13:37:14.850Z

In a discussion on the future of AI on the podcast hosted by his brother Jack Altman, Sam Altman pointed out that the race to develop artificial intelligence had, in his opinion, taken a turn completely out of proportion.

Getty Images

In particular, he cited Meta’s recent attempt to poach some of its key employees by offering them gigantic bonuses of up to $100 million.

He took the opportunity to openly denounce this approach, warning that such a recruitment method could foster a toxic culture in an under-pressure, fast-growing technology sector.

Getty Images

Altman says he is fortunate that none of his employees appear, so far, to have given in to Meta’s offers.

Getty Images

While Zuckerberg is deploying considerable resources, from huge investments to offensive recruitment, to catch up in the AI race with his “superintelligence” project, Altman adopts a more measured stance: in his opinion, the real impact of AI may well not justify the scale of the investments involved.

RFK Jr. filmed leaving a tanning salon

A video has gone viral on social networks, starring RFK Jr.

RFK Jr. was spotted leaving a tanning salon at midday.MAHA

Republicans Against Trumpism (@rpsagainsttrump.bsky.social) 2025-06-20T02:29:50.996Z

The video shows U.S. Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy Jr. emerging from a tanning salon at the Palm Beach Tan chain, surrounded by his security team.

Getty Images

For many Internet users, the scene illustrates a profound irony: seeing a senior public health official frequenting an establishment associated with the risks associated with UV exposure raises questions about the consistency of his image and health messages.

Others point out that RFK Jr. questions the safety of vaccines, while seeming to regard artificial rays as safe, even though studies have clearly established a link between indoor tanning and an increased risk of skin cancer, particularly melanoma.

Getty Images

There’s no doubt that the US Health Secretary’s contradictory messages, often criticized for their inconsistency and dubious theories, have fueled controversy since his appointment by Donald Trump.

Furious, Trump unloads on Fox News

Fox News, long considered Donald Trump’s channel of choice, seems to have lost some of its popularity with the former president, not least because of its recent reporting on internal polls deemed unflattering to him.

The president has escalated his rhetoric against the press in recent months, claiming Fox News and other pollsters are “negative criminals.”

Forbes (@forbes.com) 2025-06-19T15:40:04Z

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump sharply criticized their latest polls, claiming that this is precisely why his supporters don’t like Fox News.

Getty Images

Trump has sharply criticized a recent Fox News poll revealing mixed views on his presidency: 53% approve of his handling of border security, but as many disapprove of his migration policies, while his results on the economy (40% approve vs. 58% disapprove) and inflation (34% vs. 64%) are judged even more negatively.

In response, Trump sharply criticized the TV network, calling its polls “crooked FoxNews Polls”.

Getty Images

The president then sharply criticized previous Fox News polls, accusing the network of being biased against him for years and claiming that he had largely won the election beyond their predictions: “I hate FAKE pollsters,” he said.

Trump also criticized the fact that he is only credited with just over 50% approval on the border, when, in his words, “the border is perfect”.

Getty Images

Although Trump claims his supporters hate Fox News, he took the opportunity to compliment his favorite hosts, declaring, “That’s why MAGA HATES FoxNews, even though their anchors are EXCELLENT.”

Another of Donald’s contradictions…

Elon Musk lashes out at Grok, his own AI

Elon Musk spoke out on his social network X, as a growing number of users expressed their displeasure with the Grok AI.

Elon Musk lashed out at his own AI chatbot, Grok, after it stated that right-wing violence has become “more frequent and deadly” than left-wing attacks.

The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast.bsky.social) 2025-06-18T10:57:30.911006Z

The latter, in response to several questions about the frequency of political violence attributed to the left, indicated instead that the right seemed more responsible, a “fact-check” that triggered strong criticism, including from Musk himself, visibly annoyed by his own artificial intelligence.

Getty Images

It was a user’s question to Grok, “Since 2016, has the left or the right been more violent?”, that prompted a response from Musk, who accused the AI of taking its answers straight from the mainstream media.

Getty Images

In particular, Grok replied that, “Since 2016, the data suggests that political violence from the right has been more frequent and more deadly.”

AI then cited several examples to back up his words, concluding that these acts had “caused a significant number of deaths”.

Getty Images

Musk then reacted by commenting directly below Grok’s response, implying that he intended to correct his AI.

https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1935180620352958935

Yet, according to data from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), around 75% of acts of political violence in the US since 2016 have been attributed to right-wing extremists, compared to around 20% for the far left.

These figures, while fueling controversy, reflect a trend documented by several security organizations.
