Trump could deploy troops to Venezuela

As the Trump administration comes under scrutiny over questionable targets in its so-called ‘drug cartel’ campaign, Trump is refusing to rule out U.S. military action in Venezuela, while the American military presence intensifies in the Caribbean with a major deployment of resources and personnel for large-scale exercises over the next few weeks.

Breaking news: President Trump said he will not rule out the possibility of sending U.S. troops into Venezuela, as a buildup of U.S. forces in the region — and his increasingly combustible rhetoric — raises the prospect of military action there.

The Washington Post (@washingtonpost.com) 2025-11-17T22:01:26.985346758Z

Rising tensions in the region

Tensions in the region around Venezuela are running high, as neighbouring countries anxiously await the United States’ next move, with the U.S. military presence in the area at its highest level in nearly two decades and amounting to a near blockade of Venezuela.

Getty Images

During a round of questions from journalists inside the Oval Office, Trump was asked whether he would rule out sending U.S. troops to Venezuela and replied:

«No, I don’t rule out that. I don’t rule out anything.»

Trump then framed possible military action as part of Washington’s wider duty in the region, adding:

«We just have to take care of Venezuela.»

Getty Images

Aboard Air Force One a few days earlier, when asked whether he had decided on military action in Venezuela, Trump replied: «I can’t tell you what it would be, but I sort of have made up my mind.»

The latest military operation

American forces pressed ahead with their campaign against what Washington describes as drug-smuggling boats, carrying out another strike over the weekend. According to regional reports, the latest operation, conducted late Saturday off Venezuela’s northern coast, destroyed several small vessels suspected of carrying narcotics.

Getty Images

With this new attack, at least 22 boats have now been hit and 83 people killed since the campaign began in September, a mounting toll that is deepening international unease over the true nature of the targets.

An appeal for peace

At a rally in Caracas on Saturday, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro tried to dial down tensions with the United States by turning part of his speech into a peace appeal.

In front of hundreds of supporters, he accused Washington of seeking to «bombard and invade» Venezuela, then urged his audience to «do everything for peace, as John Lennon said» before briefly singing the refrain of «Imagine» on stage.

«Quiet, piggy!» Trump’s disgusting attack on a female reporter

Donald Trump’s exchange with reporters aboard Air Force One over the weekend took a shocking turn when he tried to dodge a question about the Epstein Files from a Bloomberg journalist, responding with a degrading insult that quickly went viral on social media.

President Donald Trump snapped, “Quiet, piggy!” at a female reporter who attempted to ask about the Jeffrey Epstein files during a gaggle aboard Air Force One.

The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast.bsky.social) 2025-11-18T12:27:12.025062Z

As Trump and his administration face growing controversy over his stance on the Epstein Files, refusing to release them, claiming the whole affair is «a Democrat hoax», and even disavowing one of his most loyal allies, Marjorie Taylor Greene, after she insisted he should release all the files, the pressure around the issue has intensified in Washington.

«Quiet. Quiet, piggy!».

-Donald Trump

A tense week

During a tense week, after a wave of renewed questions following the release of thousands of Jeffrey Epstein’s private emails and documents — many of which referenced Trump among others — and as the Epstein dossier refused to fade from the headlines, the president cut off a journalist in a way many have described as disgusting.

The moment, captured on video aboard Air Force One, shows Trump seemingly trying to dodge a question about the Epstein Files, turning to a female reporter, later identified as a Bloomberg journalist.

Getty Images

«Jeffrey Epstein and I had a very bad relationship for many years.»

In the video, the Bloomberg reporter is heard pressing him on why, if there is nothing incriminating in the files, he is acting as if there is, while Trump tries to quickly move on to another journalist to escape the question before turning back and insulting her:

«Quiet. Quiet, piggy!»

Even though the public has grown used to Trump’s frequent skirmishes with the press, he has recently leaned more on explicitly silencing language, and in recent weeks Trump has repeatedly used «Be quiet» to shut down journalists, barking «Be quiet!» at CNN’s Kaitlan Collins when she pressed him on his latest Epstein claim and telling NBC’s Yamiche Alcindor «Be quiet, listen!» when she questioned him about his Chicago rhetoric.

Getty Images

The exchange in detail

Jennifer Jacobs, a CBS News reporter who was also aboard Air Force One as Trump traveled to his Florida home on Friday night, recounted the exchange in detail on X. She explained that the gaggle grew tense as Trump was pressed on the newly released Epstein emails. When asked what Epstein meant when he said Trump «knew about the girls», the president responded:

«I know nothing about that.»

He then added: «Jeffrey Epstein and I had a very bad relationship for many years.»

https://twitter.com/JenniferJJacobs/status/1989766778893832469

But the moment that drew the most attention came when a Bloomberg journalist pushed him on why, if there is nothing incriminating in the files, he is acting as if there is. According to Jacobs, Trump abruptly turned to the reporter and said:

«Quiet, quiet, piggy!» a remark that was captured on video and quickly went viral because of its degrading tone.

Getty Images

Trump wants the focus on «How well we’ve done»

The gaggle continued with a rapid series of questions. Asked whether he had ruled out pardoning Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate and a convicted sex offender, Trump replied:

«I haven’t even thought about it,» and then: «I don’t rule it in or out. I don’t even think about it.»

On Marjorie Taylor Greene’s call to release all the files, he said:

«They can have whatever they want,» before insisting:

«I was never on his island. Bill Clinton went there supposedly 28 times.»

Getty Images

Trump then argued that if anything damaging existed, «they would’ve used it before the election.»

When Jacobs asked why, then, his own team had encouraged Nancy Mace and Lauren Boebert not to pursue the matter, he answered that «it’s bad to talk about it» when Republicans should be focusing on «how well we’ve done.»

He also said he had heard that Pam Bondi had tapped U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton, described by Trump as «a real legal talent», to look into Epstein’s ties to prominent Democrats.

‘Quiet, Piggy’: Here’s the disturbing way President Donald Trump shut down a question about the Epstein files.

Trump now blamed more than Biden for affordability crisis by Americans

As Trump continues to cry «con job by Democrats» to explain public concerns about the economy and affordability since his return to the Oval Office, CNN reports that Americans now place him at the top of the list of people to blame for the country’s economic situation.

In his most dismissive remarks on the topic to date, Trump ratcheted up his downplaying of Americans’ affordability concerns in a Fox News interview on Monday. He even called them a “con job by Democrats” and said the “polls are fake.” | Analysis

CNN (@cnn.com) 2025-11-12T05:01:01.612334393Z

In a Fox News interview, Trump was quick to accuse Democrats of manufacturing the crisis, yet he now faces a clear shift in public perception: more voters see him as responsible for the state of the economy than they ever did Biden.

Getty Images

«I don’t know they are saying that. The polls are fake. We have the greatest economy we’ve ever had.»

Trump’s denial

While Biden often downplayed the inflation problem during his presidency, Trump’s denial goes even further—insisting that everything is perfect under his leadership.

«The economy is as strong as it’s ever been.»

-Donald Trump

The public, however, disagrees. Most Americans now hold Trump accountable for the ongoing affordability crisis, even as he dismisses polls on economic anxiety as «fake».

A heavier political burden

Speaking about the state of the economy with Laura Ingraham on Fox News, Trump said «The economy is as strong as it’s ever been,» then rebuffed Ingraham’s question about public anxiety by saying «I don’t know they are saying that. The polls are fake. We have the greatest economy we’ve ever had.»

Trump insisted on the point, saying «More than anything else, it’s a con job by the Democrats.»

Getty Images

According to CNN, even if headline indicators aren’t clearly worse than under Biden, the politics are: the economy has become a heavier political burden for Trump.

In recent polls show 61% say Trump’s policies have worsened economic conditions, 60% blame him for inflation, and majorities expect his tariffs to raise prices.

Getty Images

The centerpiece of his reelection campaign

For once, the narrative is slipping from Trump’s control: polling now paints a picture he can’t spin away. A CNN/SSRS survey shows 61% say his policies have worsened economic conditions; a Washington Post–ABC News–Ipsos poll finds 59% blame him at least a good amount for inflation; and CBS/YouGov data shows most Americans think he’s focused too much on tariffs that will raise prices rather than on lowering costs.

Trump has made the economy the centerpiece of his reelection campaign, portraying himself as the only one capable of restoring prosperity.

Getty Images

His rallies and ads focus heavily on inflation, jobs, and trade, framing affordability as the ultimate test of his leadership — even as polls show public trust slipping.

Trump wants a full pardon for Netanyahu

As Benjamin Netanyahu faces charges of fraud, bribery and breach of trust in three separate corruption cases, Donald Trump has stepped in to try to influence the process by urging Israel’s president, Isaac Herzog, to pardon him.

«I hereby call on you to fully pardon Benjamin Netanyahu»

-Donald Trump

A long-running corruption trial

Trump, describing Netanyahu as a «war Time Prime Minister», wrote that «I believe that the ‘case’ against Bibi, who has fought alongside me for a long time, including against the very tough adversary of Israel, Iran, is a political, unjustified prosecution».

Getty Images

Netanyahu’s long-running corruption trial, which has been ongoing since 2020, centers on charges of fraud, bribery and breach of trust.

«It is my honor to write to you at this historic time, as we have, together, just secured peace that has been sought for at least 3,000 years.»

Getty Images

His trial has been repeatedly broken up and delayed over the years, first by Covid-related disruptions and then by political turmoil, the war, repeated motions and scheduling issues linked to the prime minister’s calendar, with most of the postponement requests coming from Netanyahu himself.

«Isaac, we have established a great relationship, one that I am very thankful for and honored.»

War Time Prime Minister

Trump opened his letter by praising the moment as historic, writing: «It is my honor to write to you at this historic time, as we have, together, just secured peace that has been sought for at least 3,000 years.»

Getty Images

In a letter distributed by the Israeli president’s spokesperson, Trump declared that «I hereby call on you to fully pardon Benjamin Netanyahu», describing him as someone «who has been a formidable and decisive War Time Prime Minister» and asserting that he «is now leading Israel into a time of peace.»

«It is time to let Bibi unite Israel by pardoning him.»

-Donald Trump

Appealing to their personal rapport, Trump wrote: «Isaac, we have established a great relationship, one that I am very thankful for and honored by, and we agreed as soon as I was inaugurated in January that the focus had to be centered on finally bringing the hostages home and getting the peace agreement done.»

Getty Images

Concluding his appeal, Trump wrote that «Now that we have achieved these unprecedented successes, and are keeping Hamas in check, it is time to let Bibi unite Israel by pardoning him, and ending that lawfare once and for all», presenting the pardon as both a reward for Israel’s recent victories and a step toward national unity.

Swift reactions across Israel

During his last visit to Israel, Donald Trump reportedly asked the Israeli president «why don’t you give him a pardon?».

Getty Images

He has now formalized that wish in a letter requesting a pardon for Netanyahu, a move that, according to CNN, drew swift reactions across Israel’s political sphere: National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir backed the idea on X, calling the indictment «disgraceful» and urging Herzog to «listen to President Trump», while Opposition Leader Yair Lapid countered with a legal reminder: «A reminder: Israeli law clearly stipulates that the first condition for a presidential pardon is admitting guilt and expressing remorse.»

Epstein emails allege Trump «knew about the girls» and «spent hours at his house» with one victim

House Democrats have released bombshell emails in which Jeffrey Epstein wrote that Donald Trump allegedly knew far more about his abuse than he has ever admitted.

House Democrats on Wednesday released emails in which Jeffrey Epstein wrote that Donald Trump had “spent hours at my house” with one of the convicted sex offender’s victims, among other messages that suggested Epstein believed Trump knew more about his abuse than he has acknowledged. nyti.ms/441Dyxh

The New York Times (@nytimes.com) 2025-11-12T14:24:14.317Z

«I want you to realize that that dog that hasn’t barked is Trump.»

Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell

The messages cast new doubt on Trump’s repeated denials that he had any involvement in, or knowledge of, the sex-trafficking operation once run by a man he long counted as a close friend.

Getty Images

In the bombshell new emails, reported by several major outlets including the New York Times, Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell – whom the Trump administration recently transferred to a minimum-security camp, where some media have suggested she is receiving preferential treatment – are shown exchanging messages in April 2011, openly wondering about the mystery of Donald Trump’s silence.

«Of course he knew about the girls as he asked Ghislaine to stop.»

-Jeffrey Epstein

The tone of their conversation suggests they were visibly puzzled that Trump had not spoken out.

As Epstein put it in one email to Maxwell, «I want you to realize that that dog that hasn’t barked is Trump». Epstein went on to write that an unnamed victim «spent hours at my house with him» adding that «he has never once been mentioned.»

Getty Images

Donald Trump’s name had never been brought up — not by her in public, not by the authorities, not in court filings, and not in media coverage.

That total silence around Trump, despite the time she allegedly spent with him, is presented in the email as something strange and almost suspect, important enough for Epstein to spell it out explicitly.

Getty Images

«I have been thinking about that,» Maxwell wrote back.

In contact with Jeffrey Epstein

The author Michael Wolff, who has written four books about Trump and was in contact with Jeffrey Epstein before his death as he was reportedly preparing to write a biography of him, also appears in the emails released by House Democrats.

Getty Images

Wolff, who is currently suing Melania Trump after she threatened to sue him over his reporting on her alleged ties to Epstein, received a message from Epstein in January 2019 in which Epstein described his relationship with Trump, their eventual falling-out and what he claimed Trump knew about the victims.

Epstein’s Trump leverage

Referring to his past presence at Mar-a-Lago, Epstein told Wolff that «Trump said he asked me to resign, never a member ever» and added, about Trump’s knowledge of the situation, «Of course he knew about the girls as he asked Ghislaine to stop.»

Getty Images

«If he says he hasn’t been on the plane or to the house, then that gives you a valuable PR and political currency.»

In another email between the two men in 2015, as Trump was on the verge of becoming president of the United States and was publicly denying any real knowledge of Epstein or downplaying his involvement with him, Wolff suggested to Epstein that Trump’s denials could actually give him leverage, writing: «If he says he hasn’t been on the plane or to the house, then that gives you a valuable PR and political currency.»

Getty Images

Wolff added in that exchange that Epstein could even turn Trump’s denials to his own advantage if Trump won the presidency, telling him: «You can hang him in a way that potentially generates a positive benefit for you, or, if it really looks like he could win, you could save him, generating a debt.»

Getty Images

As the White House had not commented on these bombshell emails at the time of writing, House Democrats were vowing further releases as part of their ongoing investigation into the Epstein dossier.

CNN's John Berman was astonished by newly revealed emails written by Jeffrey Epstein suggesting that President Donald Trump "spent hours" with one of his alleged sex abuse victims.

UK blocks intel to US, thinks strikes are indeed illegal

As the Pentagon announces new strikes on boats the Trump administration alleges are operated by drug cartels smuggling narcotics toward the United States, concerns around the operation are mounting.

UK stops sharing some intel with US over concerns about legality of US military strikes on alleged drug boats, sources tell CNN. https://cnn.it/47VvbVi

CNN (@cnn.com) 2025-11-11T15:16:11.889623921Z

CNN is now reporting that the UK has halted some intelligence sharing with Washington over the legality of the campaign, which has left a total of 75 people dead since it began in September.

Highly questionable

According to CNN, British officials have quietly suspended the sharing of certain intelligence on suspected drug-smuggling vessels with Washington, after concluding that the legal basis for the US strikes is highly questionable.

Getty Images

The UK, which has long hosted key listening posts and surveillance assets across its Caribbean territories as part of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, had for years helped the US track suspected narcotics boats so they could be intercepted by the US Coast Guard, their crews detained and their cargo seized.

Now, London fears that continuing to provide targeting information could make it directly complicit in what it increasingly views as potentially unlawful military attacks that have left 75 people dead since the operation began in September.

«These vessels were known by our intelligence to be associated with illicit narcotics smuggling, were carrying narcotics, and were transiting along a known narco-trafficking transit route in the Eastern Pacific.»

Getty Images

Two new strikes

The news comes as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced on X that two new strikes were carried out in the eastern Pacific Ocean over the weekend, killing six alleged drug smugglers he described as «cartel terrorists».

«Two lethal kinetic strikes were conducted on two vessels operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations»

-US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth

Hegseth defended the operation by insisting that «These vessels were known by our intelligence to be associated with illicit narcotics smuggling, were carrying narcotics, and were transiting along a known narco-trafficking transit route in the Eastern Pacific.»

Getty Images

In his post on X, Hegseth stressed that «two lethal kinetic strikes were conducted on two vessels operated by Designated Terrorist Organizations» and that «Both strikes were conducted in international waters and 3 male narco-terrorists were aboard each vessel. All 6 were killed. No U.S. forces were harmed».

An even sharper escalation of the conflict

These latest strikes are further fueling unease across Latin America and on the international stage.

They come just as the Trump administration’s newest move — the deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford, the Pentagon’s largest warship, to Latin American waters in what officials say is the biggest US military presence in the region since the 1989 invasion of Panama — raises fears of an even sharper escalation of the conflict in South America.

Getty Images

At the same time, the UK is making it increasingly clear it no longer wants to be part of this campaign.

U.S. forces killed six alleged drug smugglers in two separate attacks in the waters off Latin America, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said, raising the death toll from President Trump’s counternarcotics campaign to over 75.

Melania Trump «didn’t love» Trump idea of tearing down the East Wing for his massive ballroom

According to Donald Trump, Melania Trump did not share his enthusiasm for his grand redesign of the White House, showing little support for his plan to demolish the entire East Wing and replace it with an enormous private ballroom.

The president also addressed first lady Melania Trump's reported displeasure.

HuffPost (@huffpost.com) 2025-11-11T09:13:17.893Z

In a recent interview with  Laura Ingraham on Fox News, Donald Trump made a candid admission about his impressions of what First Lady Melania Trump really thought of his decision to completely demolish the East Wing of the White House.

«She loved her little, tiny office in it.»

That section has traditionally housed the official offices of first ladies of the United States.

According to HuffPost, when Ingraham asked Trump if it was true that Melania «didn’t love» his demolition of the East Wing, Trump responded that «She loved her little, tiny office in it.»

Getty Images

He quickly added that Melania was «very smart» and said he was sure that if she were asked again today, she would definitely say «It’s great» about his plan to tear down the East Wing to make way for his mega ballroom.

The East Wing demolition wasn’t necessary

In his interview, Trump revealed that he had not actually been required to demolish the East Wing in order to build his ballroom, but he nevertheless implied that he saw the East Wing as an obstacle to get around.

«I didn’t want to sacrifice a great ballroom for an OK ballroom by leaving it right smack in the middle.»

Getty Images

Explaining the reason for his decision to completely demolish that part of the White House, Trump said he «I didn’t want to sacrifice a great ballroom for an OK ballroom by leaving it right smack in the middle», diminishing the East Wing as a structure that «looked like hell» and claiming that the second floor was made «out of common brick» with «little tiny windows».

Trump went even further in his criticism of the East Wing, calling it «It was a poor, sad sight».

Getty Images

Not her project

Several outlets reported that Melania Trump quietly tried to distance herself from Donald Trump’s East Wing demolition.

Citing unnamed aides, they said she raised concerns about tearing it down, stressed it was not her project, and maintained a pointed public silence while the $350m ballroom plan drew intense nationwide backlash.

Trump sparks criticism and mockery after appearing to sleep through part of Oval Office health briefing

Donald Trump hosted an Oval Office event at the White House on November 6 that was meant to showcase a major announcement on lowering drug prices, but a very sleepy-looking president quickly eclipsed the message, as photos spread online showing him slumped in his chair and seemingly asleep while others spoke.

The president appeared to drift off as Mehmet Oz talked about sleep and obesity.

The Daily Beast (@thedailybeast.bsky.social) 2025-11-07T05:20:06.623731Z

As his administration rolled out a string of health announcements, including a major deal with drugmakers Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk to lower the price of some GLP-1 weight-loss medications, Trump appeared to drift off while others spoke, notably during Dr. Oz’s remarks.

The images sparked a wave of online mockery, with California governor Gavin Newsom even dubbing him «Dozy Don» again and posting photo montages of Trump asleep, while many others sharply questioned his fitness to govern if he now seems to be constantly nodding off.

Growing questions over Trump’s health

The episode has sharpened existing health concerns around Trump, coming after months of scrutiny over his age and medical record. Earlier this year, the White House disclosed that the 79-year-old president has chronic venous insufficiency but insisted he remains in «excellent» overall health.

Getty Images

More recently, Trump revealed he underwent an MRI at Walter Reed in October and described the results as «perfect», yet neither he nor the White House has explained why the scan was ordered or what exactly it showed, prompting former White House doctors and outside specialists to call for more transparency about his condition.

A wave of commentary

During the televised event, photos and short video clips showed Trump with his eyes closed and slumped in his chair for an extended stretch, which many viewers interpreted as him dozing off while officials and pharmaceutical executives continued speaking.

Getty Images

In recent months, Trump has also been filmed at other events where he appeared to nod off, including the Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit in Pittsburgh, where cameras showed him tipping forward with his eyes closed for several seconds, and a 2024 Latino outreach event in Miami, where footage circulated online claiming he had briefly fallen asleep.

According to reports, Trump appeared to be asleep for around 20 minutes, an incident that has fuelled a wave of commentary and headlines asking who is actually running the White House.

The same event

Other viral photos and video from the same event show Trump standing rigidly behind his desk while staff tend to a collapsed guest on the floor, lifting his legs.

Getty Images

Many viewers saw the scene as a metaphor for his presidency: a distant, passive leader watching crises unfold rather than actively helping.

The White House has focused its public comments on the medical emergency that later interrupted the event, saying the guest who fainted was treated by the White House Medical Unit and is okay, but has not directly addressed whether Trump was asleep.

Trump’s bizarre reaction to medical emergency goes viral

Donald Trump is facing backlash after an awkward reaction to a medical emergency involving one of his guests in the Oval Office, with critics mocking his strange and seemingly distant behavior as the incident unfolded.

A photo taken Thursday in the Oval Office while a man appears to pass out is going viral because of the president's reaction — or lack thereof.

HuffPost (@huffpost.com) 2025-11-06T21:44:01.758Z

A photo from the scene quickly went viral on social media.

Behind his desk

In the now-viral photo, Trump stands awkwardly at his Oval Office desk, facing the press with a stiff, almost detached posture, while in the background several people who were present in the room are seen trying to give medical attention to a man who had collapsed moments earlier, lifting his legs into the air.

Getty Images

Trump’s bizarre reaction to the medical emergency is captured in other photos, showing him still standing behind his desk, watching from a distance as the man lies on the floor.

The man who collapsed was identified in reports as a guest of Eli Lilly and a GLP-1 patient invited to the Oval Office event on weight-loss drugs. Early accounts suggest he briefly fainted, likely due to low blood pressure, and later recovered.

Getty Images

Lack of concern

Only after the image spread widely on social media did many users begin drawing parallels between Trump’s apparent indifference in that moment and what they see as his broader lack of concern for citizens facing financial hardship, from soaring prices to cuts in SNAP benefits, all while the federal government had been shut down for more than a month.

Getty Images

Trump was not the only person present during the medical emergency to face sharp criticism on social media, as Health and Human Services Secretary RFK Jr. was also called out for walking out of the Oval Office instead of assisting the man in distress, with his reaction captured on video and widely shared online.

Allies of Trump and RFK Jr. argued that both men simply stepped back to let professionals handle the emergency, accusing critics of weaponizing a frightening moment for political gain.

BBC in turmoil: Trump wants to sue for 1B$

As the BBC faces a major scandal over a misleading edit of a Donald Trump speech from January 6, 2021, two top executives – Director Tim Davie and BBC News chief Deborah Turness – have resigned amid mounting accusations of bias and lack of impartiality.

The BBC faces legal threats from President Trump after a documentary allegedly misrepresented his Jan. 6, 2021, speech, leading to two top network officials' resignation.

The Washington Post (@washingtonpost.com) 2025-11-10T16:26:05.376970996Z

«The TOP people in the BBC, including TIM DAVIE, the BOSS, are all quitting/FIRED, because they were caught “doctoring” my very good (PERFECT!) speech of January 6th.»

A (PERFECT!) speech

Trump has seized on the controversy on Truth Social to accuse the British, a key US ally, of damaging democracy, calling it «What a terrible thing for Democracy!» and is now threatening to sue the BBC for 1 billion dollars over the edited segment, according to several media outlets including The Washington Post and Fox News.

In his Truth Social post, Trump claimed that senior leadership at the broadcaster was being pushed out, writing that «The TOP people in the BBC, including TIM DAVIE, the BOSS, are all quitting/FIRED, because they were caught “doctoring” my very good (PERFECT!) speech of January 6th.»

Getty Images

«On top of everything else, they are from a Foreign Country, one that many consider our Number One Ally. What a terrible thing for Democracy!».

A terrible thing for Democracy

In the same message, Trump also thanked a British newspaper for its coverage of the controversy, writing «Thank you to The Telegraph for exposing these Corrupt “Journalists.”».

Trump continued his attack on the network and its staff, writing «These are very dishonest people who tried to step on the scales of a Presidential Election.»

Getty Images

Trump ends his message by broadening his accusations to a key US ally as a whole, writing «On top of everything else, they are from a Foreign Country, one that many consider our Number One Ally. What a terrible thing for Democracy!».

«The BBC has caused President Trump to suffer overwhelming financial and reputational harm» and warning that «if the BBC does not comply with the above by November 14, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. EST, President Trump will be left with no alternative but to enforce his legal and equitable rights, all of which are expressly reserved and are not waived»

Completely misleading

The accusations against the BBC centre on a Panorama documentary that spliced together separate parts of Donald Trump’s January 6, 2021 speech, allegedly creating the impression that he was directly urging supporters to storm the Capitol. The row was ignited by a detailed exposé in The Telegraph, based on a leaked 19-page internal memo written by former BBC adviser Michael Prescott.

Getty Images

That dossier claims the programme «Trump: A Second Chance?» was «completely misleading», accusing editors of “doctoring” Trump’s remarks by stitching together lines spoken nearly an hour apart and then overlaying them with footage of the Capitol march that was filmed earlier, thereby changing the meaning of his words.

«It feels like a coup.»

One Billion Dollars in damages

According to Fox News, Trump and his legal team have also sent a formal letter to the BBC, claiming that «The BBC has caused President Trump to suffer overwhelming financial and reputational harm» and warning that «if the BBC does not comply with the above by November 14, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. EST, President Trump will be left with no alternative but to enforce his legal and equitable rights, all of which are expressly reserved and are not waived».

Getty Images

The letter adds that this could include «filing legal action for no less than $1,000,000,000 (One Billion Dollars) in damages.»

Turness, according to The Guardian, defended the corporation as she announced her resignation over the scandal, rejecting Trump’s claim that its journalists are corrupt and insisting that «Our journalists aren’t corrupt. Our journalists are hardworking people who strive for impartiality. And I will stand by their journalism,» adding that while mistakes happen, «There is no institutional bias.»
