SSI went into lockdown due to strange smell

The International Space Station has recently experienced a number of problems that have temporarily become a cause for concern, most notably when a section of the spacecraft was placed under containment due to a suspicious odor emanating from a cargo ship docked on the Russian side of the station.

Russian cosmonauts on the International Space Station were forced to briefly lock down a segment of the orbiting laboratory this weekend after finding an “unusual odor” emanating from a visiting cargo spacecraft called Progress 90, NASA said Sunday.

CNN (@cnn.com) 2024-11-26T02:59:59.176Z

The crew of the International Space Station recently had to temporarily lock down a section of the station after detecting a “strange smell” coming from Progress 90, a cargo ship carrying food, supplies and fuel, which had just arrived with its cargo.

NASA

According to NASA, shortly after the freighter’s arrival, Russian astronauts detected the smell and saw drops, prompting them to quickly close the Poisk module, a section of the Russian space module.

The situation was quickly brought under control by NASA controllers, who activated the air purification equipment. The smell disappeared once the operation was completed, and cargo transfer operations were able to resume normally.

NASA also confirmed that, despite this worrying incident, air quality inside the International Space Station remained normal throughout.

The Russian section of the International Space Station is made up of several modules, including the Zvezda, Poisk and Nauka. These modules are used for various scientific activities, storage and, above all, refueling operations.

Russian cosmonauts are responsible for the main management of this section, but for several months now, a series of problems in this part of the International Space Station has been generating tension. These include air leaks in the Zvezda module and other incidents affecting the Russian modules of the ISS.

Fortunately, in the case of the “strange smell”, there seems to be nothing serious going on after all.

Rudy Giuliani loses it in front of the judge

Rudy Giuliani is currently back in front of a judge for a hearing concerning his non-payment in the defamation case – over US$150 million – he lost a few months ago against two Georgia election workers he had defamed.

Problem is, Rudy lost it when questioned by the judge.

Rudy Giuliani lashed out at a judge questioning why he had not forfeited personal assets as required. “Somebody has to tell the truth!” Giuliani shot back at the judge. nyti.ms/3CNvFRk

The New York Times (@nytimes.com) 2024-11-27T05:08:30.771Z

At a court hearing, ahead of a trial scheduled for January to determine the assets he must hand over to the two women he defamed, Giuliani interrupted the court to plead his inability to pay his bills, taking the opportunity to accuse the judge, pointing the finger at him.

Getty Images

Giuliani criticized the judge, whom he calls a left-wing extremist, saying it was unfair to treat him as if he refused to abide by the verdict, given that he no longer owns anything.

He said he had no car, no credit card, no cash and was unable to pay his bills.

After being shouted down by Giuliani, the judge immediately warned him that he would no longer be able to speak in court, unless he testified under oath.

Giuliani was convicted of defaming two election workers, who won a $148 million verdict from a jury in Washington, D.C., after Giuliani destroyed their reputations by repeating lies that they had attempted to steal the 2020 U.S. presidential election for Trump.

The two women have been seeking to seize Giuliani’s assets for several months now, but he is doing everything in his power to evade the verdict and has completely disregarded orders to hand over his assets.

Rudy Giuliani will be back in court on January 16, 2025, after his request to postpone the trial so he could attend Donald Trump’s inauguration was denied.

Elon Musk tries to stop The Onion from acquiring InfoWars’ account on X

The Onion’s acquisition of InfoWars, recently auctioned off as part of the liquidation of its controversial owner, Alex Jones, in order to pay off his defamation victims, has no doubt caused a commotion among right-wingers.

It also seems to be causing a stir with Elon Musk, who is reportedly trying to do all he can to block access to the InfoWars account on X by its new owner, The Onion.

X trying to block transfer of platform’s InfoWars accounts to the Onion

The Guardian (@theguardian.com) 2024-11-27T16:23:09Z

Musk claims, via his X social network, that he decides whether to give permission for the sale or transfer of X accounts.

Getty Images

According to him, he is not obliged to hand over the keys of the controversial and very popular InfoWars account to its new owner, the satirical site The Onion.

The social network has filed a “limited objection” to the sale of InfoWars in Texas. While Musk and his company do not object to the sale generally, X asserts that its users do not own their accounts and cannot sell or transfer them without its authorization.

According to the terms of use, X Corp. owns the X accounts and specifies that the company only grants its users a non-exclusive license to use them.

Getty Images

Recall that The Onion recently announced that it had acquired InfoWars, but that First United American Companies, an alleged losing bidder, as well as ex-owner Alex Jones, objected to the sale.

They claim that First United American Companies would have offered a higher sum than The Onion, and accuse the liquidator overseeing the auction of collusion with the Sandy Hook families and the satirical site.

CaptureTheOnion

Alex Jones’ business was put up for auction because of court rulings requiring him to pay $1.5 billion to the families and loved ones of the victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre, due to the false accusations he repeated for years, claiming that the shooting was a “hoax” and that the parents and victims were actors.

The deal to sell to The Onion is currently on hold pending a court hearing scheduled for next month.

Trump threatens Canada and Mexico with 25% tariffs

Donald Trump, currently preparing for his imminent arrival in the White House in January 2025, has named two new targets as part of his campaign promise to impose tariffs on goods imported into the US via other countries.

He is now forwarding to Canada and Mexico, which he accuses in the same breath of being migrant sieves.

JUST IN: President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to impose massive hikes on goods from China, Mexico and Canada on his first day in office.

CNN (@cnn.com) 2024-11-26T00:28:59.387Z

Donald Trump made the announcement on his social network, Truth Social, stating that he plans to impose a 25% tariff on products imported from Mexico and Canada, presenting the proposal as a measure against the current fentanyl crisis in the US.

Getty Images

Trump claims that his decision to impose tariffs on Mexico and Canada, the US’s two largest trading partners accounting for nearly 30% of the country’s trade volume, is, he says, driven by the need to combat illegal immigration, as well as crime and drugs crossing the border.

Getty Images

Trump claims in his post that all products from his border partners will be taxed because of “open borders”, which he deems “ridiculous”.

He adds that these tariffs will remain in place as long as drugs, naming “fentanyl” in particular, as well as “all illegal immigrants”, stop “this invasion of our country”.

Getty Images

Recall that these tariffs contravene an agreement between the three countries negotiated by Trump himself, namely the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement), which was renegotiated during Donald Trump’s first term and came into effect in July 2020.

Among the goods traded commercially between the US, Canada and Mexico under this agreement, several important sectors will be affected by Trump’s decisions, including dairy products, paper products, wood building materials and the vehicle manufacturing industry.

Jack Smith drops charges against Donald Trump

Special prosecutor Jack Smith got approval from U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan for his request to drop all federal charges against Donald Trump, president-elect-to-be.

These charges related to two major cases: the improper handling of classified documents found at his Mar-a-Lago residence, as well as his attempts to subvert the 2020 presidential election, following his defeat by Joe Biden.

NBC News (@nbcnews.com) 2024-11-25T18:18:33.315Z

One of the major cases against Trump is currently being considered by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, following a request by Jack Smith, after District Judge Aileen Cannon dismissed the case against the ex-president earlier this summer, ruling that the appointment of Special Prosecutor Jack Smith was unlawful.

Getty Images

Recall that Donald Trump was indicted in this case in June 2023 in a Miami federal court, facing 37 criminal counts related to the mishandling of classified documents later found at Mar-a-Lago, his Florida residence, and that he refused to return them at the FBI’s request.

Charges against Trump in the case included deliberate withholding of national defense information, falsifying statements and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Jack Smith’s other case against Trump involved charges that he illegally conspired to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Charges included conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstructing and attempting to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.

The cases against Trump were significantly affected by a Supreme Court ruling that Trump enjoyed presidential immunity for any action taken in the course of his duties.

Before the latter won the 2024 election, Jack Smith was working to readjust the charges to reflect this new perspective.

Special Prosecutor Jack Smith and his team will resign before Trump takes office in the White House. Trump has said he will fire Smith as soon as he takes office.

Although the buzz around Gladiator 2 and Wicked is less intense than that around Barbie and Oppenheimer, it’s now safe to say that “Glicked” is the first pair of films to come close since Barbenheimer’s mega-success in the summer of 2023.

Millions around the world flocked to see “Wicked” and “Gladiator II” in theaters during their opening weekend. But “Glicked” fell short of the record-breaking performance of “Barbenheimer.”

Last weekend marked the grand theatrical premiere of two of 2024’s most eagerly awaited films, Gladiator 2 and Wicked, and the excitement and buzz were palpable in cinemas around the world.

It’s unlikely that the “Glicked” phenomenon will reach the same intensity as that provoked by Barbie and Oppenheimer, which benefited from an exceptional marketing campaign in 2023.

In its first weekend, Wicked grossed $114 million at the box office, while Gladiator II took in over $55 million.

Major attack on supermarket supply software

Blue Yonder, a software company specializing in the supply chain, has been hit by a major ransomware attack, with repercussions felt from the USA to the UK.

https://bsky.app/profile/cnn.com/post/3lbpvmeteuk2x

The Arizona-based software company suffered disruptions to its managed services environment, which were attributed to a ransomware incident, according to a statement released by the company on Friday.

Acquired by Panasonic in 2021, Blue Yonder’s customers include some of the largest supermarket chains in the US and UK.

Although the software is not intended to record customer payments, Blue Yonder specializes in demand forecasting and replenishment, automated ordering, as well as warehouse and transportation management software.

This significantly affects the supply of grocery stores and other affected businesses.

Blue Yonder has not provided details of customers affected by the attack, but the company says it is making progress with recovery, although it still does not have a specific timeframe for restoration.

This is likely to cause many difficulties for businesses trapped in this situation.

According to CNN, Sainsbury and Morrisons, which have almost 500 retail stores across the UK, are said to be affected by the ransomware forward, while in the US, Albertsons and Kroger are also affected.

Other companies, such as Procter & Gamble and Fortune 500 companies, could also be impacted by this attack.
