North Korea sends 3,000 troops to Russia

North Korea has deployed 3,000 of its troops to Russia for training, and Volodymyr Zelensky fears that they will then be sent to fight in Ukraine.

He also claims that more North Korean troops could be sent by December.

This major new development was confirmed by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin:

“We are seeing evidence that North Korean troops have traveled to Russia.”

Around 3,000 North Korean troops are now believed to be deployed in eastern Russia, but the US does not yet know their precise mission, according to a senior administration official.

In addition, North Korean troops have reportedly been observed on Russian territory since September.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has regularly warned that North Korean troops would soon be joining the war alongside Russia, now claims that “10,000” troops are being prepared to go to Russia.

Since the invasion of Ukraine, relations between Russia and North Korea have strengthened. Moscow, in search of allies in the face of Western sanctions, and Pyongyang, eager to bolster its military and economic support, are engaging in strategic cooperation.

Reciprocal visits by leaders, including Kim Jong-un’s visit to Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent visit to North Korea, illustrate this new dynamic.

Putin paid a two-day diplomatic visit to North Korea on June 19, while Kim Jong-un visited Russia on September 13, 2023.

These rapprochements raise growing concerns about the escalation of the war in Ukraine, as well as regional and global security.

Central Park 5 sue Donald Trump for defamation

Members of the Central Park 5, wrongly accused of raping a woman in New York’s Central Park when they were teenagers and with a long history with Donald Trump, are suing him for defamation over comments he made during the presidential debate broadcast on ABC News.

The Central Park 5 are a group of five African-American and Latino teenagers wrongly convicted of raping a jogger in Central Park in 1989.

Getty Images

After years in prison, their innocence was proven by DNA, but their story highlights racial and judicial injustices, including the controversial involvement of Donald Trump.

In 1989, Trump took out a full-page ad in the New York Times, calling for the reinstatement of the death penalty to execute the Central Park 5.

Getty Images

Even after their exoneration in 2002, Trump continued to assert their guilt, even as recently as his September 10 presidential debate against Kamala Harris when the latter sharply criticized him for publishing the ad in 1989, calling for the execution of the “young teenagers” accused at the time.

According to the defamation suit, Trump responded during the debate to what Harris had just said by claiming that the Central Park 5 “killed a person and pleaded guilty to the crime”, whereas these statements “are patently false” according to the lawsuit.

Getty Images

The complaint filed in federal court in Philadelphia states that the plaintiffs “never pleaded guilty to any crime” and were subsequently “cleared of any wrongdoing”.

What’s more, the victim of the Central Park assaults “was not killed”, a fact Donald Trump should have known since he’s taken this cause so personally since 1989.

Getty Images

The lawsuit contends that Donald Trump’s statements are “part of an continuing pattern of extreme and outrageous behavior going back many years.”

Getty Images

Because of the consequences of his remarks, which include allegations of defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress, the Central Park 5 are seeking damages in excess of $75,000, with the total amount of compensatory and punitive damages to be determined at trial.

Elon Musk’s million-dollar-a-day lottery is probably illegal

Elon Musk recently set up a $1 million-a-day lottery for a randomly selected signatory of a petition from a key state.

This initiative is aimed exclusively at voters in one of the 7 key states where the elections will be played out.

However, many experts believe that Musk may have broken the law, which could result in a five-year prison sentence.

Elon Musk presented the first giant check to a delighted participant at a Town Hall in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, October 19.

Getty Images

The problem for Musk is that he’s offering this contest to people who sign a petition, but to be eligible, participants must be registered to vote.

But in the U.S., it’s illegal to hand out money in trade for voter registration, which could pose a serious problem for Elon Musk.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has called for an investigation into Elon Musk, calling his practice “deeply concerning”.

Kamala Harris raised $221M in September, Trump only $62M!

With polls showing the Democratic nominee and her rival Donald Trump neck-and-neck, with no predictable winner just days before the election, Kamala Harris is clearly winning the fundraising battle!

The Vice President’s campaign raised more than three times the amount of Donald Trump’s in September, while we also learn that Kamala Harris has crossed the record threshold of one billion dollars in funds raised since the start of her presidential race.

An unprecedented amount!

According to CBS News, these figures do not take into account the other political action committees supporting Harris and Trump.

Trump receives millions of dollars in support from several billionaires, including Elon Musk, Diane Hendricks, Richard Uihlein and others.

Harris also enjoys the support of wealthy millionaires and billionaires, including Reed Hastings, Dustin Moskovitz and Jeff Lawson.

Trump prepares fries and greets supporters at a (closed) McDonald’s

Donald Trump “worked” in “the real world” for the first time in 78 years at a campaign event on October 20.

The former president can now claim to have worked in a McDonald’s, despite accusing Kamala Harris without evidence of lying about her experience at the restaurant chain when she was a student at Howard University in Washington.

Trump was in Festerville-Trevose, Pennsylvania, for a publicity stunt for his election campaign.

The former president introduced himself to the restaurant owner, asking:

“I’m looking for a job.”

He could now boast that 1 in 8 Americans had worked at McDonald’s.

As soon as he arrived, Trump took the opportunity to make a comment about his rival, who is the real reason he’s in the restaurant:

“I’m running against somebody who said she did, but it turned out to be a totally phony story.”

Getty Images

Trump claims without proof to have shown that Kamala Harris never worked in a McDonald’s while in school, but according to a representative of the Kamala Harris campaign, the vice president was employed at a McDonald’s in Alameda, California, in the summer of 1983.

An employee of the restaurant showed her how to fry fries… then, a strange statement to the effect that he had always dreamed of working at McDonald’s:

“I always wanted to work at McDonald’s, but I never did.”

Getty Images

In addition to learning how to fry fries, Trump answered reporters and served his supporters at the drive-thru of a McDonald’s that was closed to the public for the occasion.

A reporter asked him if he would accept the election results, an important question to which he replied:

“Yes, of course, if it’s a fair election.”

Getty Images

Trump still gives the same vague, unconvincing answer, while he and his Republican allies are already expressing doubts about the electoral process.

Getty Images

However, this answer, which is worrying some people in the run-up to an election whose results look set to be very close, doesn’t seem to bother his supporters at all, who were delighted to be served a few fries by Donald Trump.

Former Las Vegas Democrat official sentenced to 28 years in prison for journalist’s murder

Robert Telles, a former Democratic elected official from Las Vegas, has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for the murder of an investigative reporter.

The victim, Jeff German a reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, was stabbed to death on September 3, 2022 after bringing to light an intimate relationship between Telles and a co-worker. At the time, German had published several articles about her “intimidating” and “hostile” behaviors in the professional setting.

Jeff German, 69, was a respected reporter with almost 45 years on the job. He worked to cover the courts, crime and corruption in Las Vegas.

He was reportedly found dead outside his residence.

Getty Images

Surveillance video revealed an unusually dressed suspect, wearing a large hat, orange construction jacket, black pants and gray sneakers, carrying a duffel bag and driving a wine-red SUV.

The SUV would have put Telles on the suspect list.

CaptureCourtTV

During a search of Robert Telles’s residence, police reportedly found an SUV as well as cut-out pieces of a straw hat and a gray sneaker, leading to his arrest.

Getty Images

According to prosecutors, Telles killed German after losing the primary for a second term, blaming the journalist as the cause.

In handing down his sentence, the judge stressed that this type of “political violence” was “unacceptable and dangerous”.

Getty Images

The jury deliberated for three days before finding Robert Telles guilty.

The judge chose to add eight years to the maximum sentence he could impose, due to the use of a deadly weapon in an intentional, deliberate and premeditated murder.

Telles will be eligible for parole… at the age of 73.

A dog spotted on top of a pyramid in Egypt

A dog was recently spotted at the top of a pyramid in Egypt by a paraglider who filmed the moment, which quickly went viral on social media.

Marshall Mosher was flying over Egypt’s pyramids on October 14 when he witnessed an unexpected scene: a dog atop the Great Pyramid of Giza.

CaptureMarshallMosher

He shared his video on Instagram, which has since garnered over 850,000 likes.

The next day, the paraglider returned to fly over the pyramid, hoping to find the dog atop the 481-foot-tall structure.

Mosher wondered if the dog was injured or in trouble, unable to climb back down.

CaptureMarshallMosher

Many people, following his viral video, dubbed him the “divine dog”, and many comments under the video referred to him as the physical incarnation of Anubis, an Egyptian god often depicted with a jackal’s head, similar to those local dogs found near the pyramids.

Unfortunately for him, the dog had left the pyramid… as he didn’t see it anywhere on his second approach.

Trump calls January 6 a “day of love”

Speaking at Univision for a Town Hall, Trump was confronted by Ramiro González, a 56-year-old Republican construction worker living in Tampa, Florida. González stated that he no longer wished to vote for him since the events of January 6, 2021, and asked him to convince him to reconsider his decision.

Trump chose instead to refer to the riots and the attempted overthrow of the government as a “day of love”, a statement that shocked many in attendance at Town Hall.

At the Town Hall in Miami, Florida, Ramiro González had a lot to say about some of the former president’s decisions.

CaptureUnivision

During his speech, he explained to Trump that he found his actions and inactions during the riot “a little troubling”, particularly because of the time it took him to react as his supporters forward the Capitol.

Trump responded to the man by claiming that absolutely “nothing was done wrong”, despite the fact that thousands of his supporters had violently attacked the Capitol in Washington, D.C., that day, plunging the country into instability and setting a dangerous precedent by threatening the peaceful transfer of power.

Getty Images

Several people lost their lives as a result of these forwards, including Trump supporters and Capitol Police officers. Trump instead claimed that:

“Ashli Babbitt was killed […] no one was killed”.

Instead, Trump claimed that the event had been peaceful, as his supporters were unarmed: “Other people had guns, but we didn’t. And when I say we, I mean those who came down […] But it was a day of love.”

CaptureUnivision

Trump tried to disassociate himself and excuse the thousands of his supporters who laid siege to the Capitol after attending his “Stop the Steal” rally, declaring, “They didn’t come because of me […] they thought the election was rigged.”

Ramiro González also asked him why he should give him his vote if some people in his former administration wouldn’t support him.

Getty Images

He mentioned that even his own vice president, Mike Pence, didn’t want to support him. Trump responded by referring to Mike Pence’s actions: “The vice president […] I absolutely don’t agree with what he’s done.”

Getty Images

Trump’s answers on the subject clearly didn’t seem to convince González to vote for him on November 5.
