Odell Beckham Jr. to Pittsburgh Steelers?

Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has yet to be signed by a team, despite having been linked to the Dallas Cowboys on multiple occasions last season.

But meanwhile, there’s on team in particular that ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky believes that he should land with. According to comments that Orlovsky made during an appearance on “Get Up” earlier in the week, Beckham Jr. should take his talents to the Steel City and join the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“One, organizational structure, and the head coach knows what he’s doing. There’s a standard, a culture, an everyday expectation he’s gonna walk right into,” Orlovsky said about the Steelers signing OBJ. “Two, cheap quarterback with Kenny Pickett right now, you’re trying to build around that because he is cheap and you’re trying to get him to play as well as possible.”

“The reason I said Pittsburgh is, you can’t compete unless you’re explosive offensively in the AFC. You don’t have a chance,” Orlovsky said. “So, you’ve got an organization that’s rock solid. Head coach is a stud. You’ve got a cheap quarterback. Then, if you roll that offense out there with Diontae Johnson, [Pat] Freiermuth, [George] Pickens, Najee [Harris], and then Odell.”

However, the Steelers didn’t send a representative to Beckham’s private workout. However, do you agree with Orlovsky that Pittsburgh should take a waiver on him?

Even more bad news for Ezekiel Elliott

The Dallas Cowboys made the call to part ways with running back Ezekiel Elliott, who they made their 1st round draft selection out of Ohio State University in 2016. And according to reports, Elliott has allegedly narrowed down his “wish list” to three teams: the Bengals, Eagles, and Jets.

However, the bad news for Elliott is that none of those teams appear to be interesting in his services.

According to Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, he apparently wasn’t even aware that Elliott was eying the Bengals.

“There’s a lot of great players that are available right now,” Taylor said. “We like our team as where it’s at right now. But it’s always funny when things get thrown around. Sometimes, it’s the first you hear of it. But that’s just the way life works.”

Meanwhile, according to NBC Sports Philadelphia, the “Eagles have not engaged in conversations” with the former division rival running back, and they “are happy with the running backs they have now.”

What’s more, the Seahawks have yet to comment on any potential interest in Elliott.

The 27 year old running back racked up career lows in 2022 in rushing attempts (231), rush yards (876) and rushing average (3.8). He departs Dallas third all time in team history in rushing yards behind that of Emmitt Smith and Tony Dorset.

Tom Brady now minority owner of WNBA team

Recently retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady, who insists that this retirement will be for good, has ventured into the world of women’s professional sports by becoming a minority owner in the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces.

“I am very excited to be part of the Las Vegas Aces organization,” Brady said in a statement Thursday. “My love for women’s sports began at a young age when I would tag along to all my older sisters’ games — they were by far the best athletes in our house! We celebrated their accomplishments together as a family, and they remain a great inspiration to me.

“I have always been a huge fan of women’s sports, and I admire the work that the Aces’ players, staff, and the WNBA continue to do to grow the sport and empower future generations of athletes. To be able to contribute in any way to that mission as a member of the Aces organization is an incredible honor.”

McCarthy: Door is open for Ezekiel Elliott return

The Dallas Cowboys decided to part ways with 2016 1st round draft pick Ezekiel Elliott earlier this month after the popular running back posted career low numbers in 2022 of only 876 yards and 12 total touchdowns. While the move was met with varying reactions from the Cowboys fan base, quarterback Dak Prescott and owner/general manager Jerry Jones didn’t make any secret that it was a difficult decision.

Head coach Mike McCarthy said the same, saying nobody felt good about releasing the longtime Cowboys player.

“You know, no one felt good about that,” he said. “I mean, Zeke has such a bright light to him too. He’s a great teammate. There’s so much love for him in the building, but you get to these spots, you know, the longer you’re in this league, these are tough decisions. Very difficult decisions. Very difficult for Dak (Prescott). You know, I’ve had a number of conversations with Dak, but it’s not easy.”

But, could McCarthy see a scenario in which Elliott actually returns at some point to the Cowboys? Apparently so.

“Yeah, definitely,” he responded. “I think you always keep the door open. Absolutely.”

Cowboys fans, would you be comfortable with Elliott eventually coming back and suiting up for the Cowboys once more?

Mike Tomlin has words for QB Kenny Pickett

The Pittsburgh Steelers had themselves a new starting quarterback in the form of 1st round draft pick Kenny Pickett, who took over from the struggling veteran Mitchell Trubisky earlier in the 2022 NFL season.

And while it wasn’t completely smooth sailing, Pickett rebounded nicely in order to lead the Steelers on the verge of a postseason spot. Unfortunately, despite the winning record of 9-8, the Steelers would fall just short of qualifying for the postseason and had to watch from home.

How does head coach Mike Tomlin feel about Pickett heading into his second season? He had nothing but good things to say about him.

“I’m excited about Kenny individually in terms of the growth that he’s capable of making and, and what he’s willing to do to realize that,” Tomlin told ESPN’s Brooke Pryor on Sunday at the Annual League Meeting in Phoenix. “I think I’m probably more excited about that because I’ve just been around him intimately now for 12 months. There was some anticipation things because of the close proximity that we’ve all talked about quite a bit, but the reality of having worked with him for 12 months, it’s just more evidence of what we should be excited about — his willingness to work, his professional approach, his maturity in processing. It’s exciting.”

He also explained that the continuity in having Matt Canada remain as offensive coordinator was key.

“I think it’s reasonable to expect that to be significant,” Tomlin said. “But we’ll have an opportunity to make it so.”

Allen Lazard says Aaron Rodgers is why he chose Jets

Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard said that quarterback Aaron Rodgers was a driving force behind his choosing to sign a $44 million deal with the New York Jets, as the former NFL MVP has said that it’s his preference to take his talents to the Empire State and take a page out of former Packers QB Brett Favre’s book and also suit up for the Jets.

But while the sports world waits for a Rodgers to Jets deal to happen, Lazard said that there’s nothing to worry about and that a deal eventually will get done.

“There’s no worry on my end,” Lazard said of the stalemate between the Jets and the Packers. “Especially knowing that Aaron has his full-on commitment to being a New York Jet this year.”

Lazard also explained that Rodgers is able to “light a lot of fire underneath” guys on the Jets given his playoff experience. meanwhile, the Jets also brought in former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in the same position, another reason why Rodgers was adamant about wanting to play for the Jets.

Is Mike McCarthy on the hot seat?

The season for the Dallas Cowboys once again ends prematurely at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers, and they’re heading into another offseason of uncertainty. There are several high profile free agents on the roster who may not be back for next season, while the coaching staff has already seen a major shakeup with the departure of several faces.

However, head coach Mike McCarthy isn’t going anywhere, and in his words, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones doesn’t want him to go anywhere for quite a while. But what do pundits think?

According to a recent list from Bleacher Report, McCarthy is No. 2 on their list of NFL coaches on the hot seat:

  1. “This isn’t to say that Jones didn’t say that (he wants him in town as like as Tom Landry was). Or that McCarthy has done a bad job. But racking up regular-season wins isn’t the goal in Dallas. Neither is making the playoffs. The aim is the same every year: win the Super Bowl. The Cowboys haven’t even played in an NFC Championship Game in nearly three decades, and McCarthy is 1-2 in the postseason.
  2. If McCarthy’s squad makes another early exit from the playoffs in 2023 (or misses them altogether), it may not be his team anymore.”

How much longer do you believe that McCarthy has with the Cowboys?

Ben Roethlisberger implies Steelers are cheap!

While Ben Roethlisberger may have played his entire Hall of Fame career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the doesn’t mean that he’s above sharing some public disagreements with how they run their franchise.

During a recent episode of his  ‘Footbahlin’ podcast, he explained that he feels that the Steelers wait until all of the highest priced free agents have found new homes before they go shopping for their own additions. In other words, he essentially implied that the Steelers are on the cheap side.

“The Steelers, I’ve felt, have done a lot in the past is they try to get a bargain free agent,” Roethlisberger said. “That usually means it’s a guy that maybe was banged up. It’s like, ‘Oh, no, he’s healthy now’, instead of going to get a free agent that is just [high on the market] because they don’t want to have to pay a lot.”

He said that while every team has a different free agent philosophy and that it’s not every year, the Steelers traditionally wait to spend on more well known free agent players.

“Okay, everyone’s got different philosophies,” Roethlisberger said. “And it’s not all free agents [that] are that way, but to me, it has felt that way traditionally.”

Jerry Jones being accused of defamation

The woman who has said that Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is her biological father has filed a defamation suit against him, saying that she’s been smeared as a “’extortionist’ and a ‘shakedown artist’.

“Not once did Defendant Jones or any of his agents ever deny that Plaintiff was Defendant Jones’ daughter,” Davis’ Dallas lawyers, Jay K. Gray and Andrew A. Bergman, wrote in their defamation complaint. “Instead, Defendant Jones chose the avenue of calling his own daughter an ‘extortionist’ merely to make his own public image less despicable by attempting to discredit Plaintiff’s reputation and character in the public eye.”

The woman, who is named Alexandria Davis, originally was seeking recognition as Jones’ daughter in a suit that was filed last year. But according to her latest suit, she was smeared by Jones and his associates.

“Rather than acknowledging his child, or even taking the opportunity to get to know his child, my father and his associates have publicly smeared my reputation and intentions,” she said in the statement provided by her lawyers.

“I have been falsely accused of a ‘shakedown’ and ‘extortion.’ In reality, I am a daughter who simply wants to acknowledge her father without fear of retribution. I will not stand by and let my father’s actions or words define me or my future.”

Neither Jones nor his lawyers were available for comment.
