Report: Steelers could make major move

Brace yourselves Steelers fans, because according to an explosive report from The Athletic, it appears as though the franchise could be preparing to trade offensive lineman James Daniels, especially after the additions of  Isaac Seumalo and Nate Herbig.

This wouldn’t exactly be a surprise, considering the additional moves that the Steelers have made to supplement themselves at the position.

Per the report:

“It seemed like they were just plugging holes cheap so they can draft the guys they want,” another exec said, noting that the players Pittsburgh signed seemed to be one-for-one replacements for players they let go. “They have made no mistakes. They have been very safe, which is the M.O. of their franchise as a whole.”

“That is five (potential) starters, which is big for them, and they also re-signed (Larry) Ogunjobi to a pretty big deal,” an exec said.

Right now, Daniels is under contract with the Steelers with a cap hit of $8.25 million.

Former Cowboys DE Aldon Smith sentenced to jail

Former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Aldon Smith will be spending the next year in jail after he plead no contest to a felony DUI charge stemming from a 2021 incident in Redwood City, California. He’s also been given five years of supervised prohibition.

The incident, which took place in December of 2021, occurred when Smith allegedly rear-ended a truck parked on a freeway off-ramp. Authorities say they discovered several empty alcohol bottles in Smith’s vehicles as well as marijuana.

This was only the latest in a string of legal troubles for Smith, who also had DUI arrests in 2012 and 2019.

He was selected with the 7th overall selection in the 2011 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, and also spent time with the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks along with the Cowboys in 2020. He racked up 228 total tackles, six forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.

Jerry Jones announces touching tribute for DeMarcus Ware

It was made official earlier this year with the news that Dallas Cowboys legend Demarcus Ware was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Ware set the all-time franchise record for sacks with the Cowboys with a total of 117 in nine seasons played. He would then take his talents to the Rocky Mountains, signing with the Denver Broncos with whom he would win Super Bowl 50. He was also named a Pro Bowler in 2014 and 2015.

And Jones personally told Ware earlier today that he’ll be on hand for the ceremony later this year to personally present Ware with the honor.

“I cannot tell you what an honor it is,” Jones said. “It is because it is you. This means more to me than being in the Hall of Fame because I know what you are a part of, and that is how I got in the Hall of Fame.”

“The football player you were for your teammates, this is what I thought it would be like in heaven if you got in the NFL,” said Jones, who drafted Ware in 2005. “You are the picture of it.”

New York Jets officially sign new quarterback

It appears as though it’s only a matter of time before quarterback Aaron Rodgers finds his way to the New York Jets, whom he has openly expressed his desire to suit up for. In the meantime, the Jets have worked on making a potential partnership with Rodgers a happy one, signing his former teammate in Allen Lazard.

And now, they’ve brought on another former teammate of Rodgers’ from Green Bay. According to multiple reports, they’re bringing aboard former Packers backup quarterback Tim Boyle:

Nathanial Hackett, who was Green Bay’s offensive coordinator during Boyle’s two seasons with the team, is now serving in that capacity with the Jets, further fueling speculation of Rodgers heading to New York.

Aaron Rodgers being pursued by new team!

Four-time NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers announced his desire to suit up for the New York Jets in 2023 during an appearance last month on “The Pat McAfee Show”, and also had some choice words for his soon to be former team in the Green Bay Packers in how they’re handling the situation.

However, we’ve yet to see a deal materialize between the two sides. And according to an incredible recently released report, there’s allegedly a new team emerging that has interest in bringing Rodgers aboard.

As FS1’s Craig Carton reported today on The Carton Show, the Packers have had conversations with the San Francisco 49ers

“The New York Jets are about to lose Aaron Rodgers,” Craig said. “The Patriots are about to get rid of Mac Jones and trade for Lamar Jackson or Aaron Rodgers, if he doesn’t go to San Francisco.

“It’s all falling apart. It is all falling apart at the seams. All of our dreams of Aaron Rodgers wearing Jet Green and Odell Beckham Jr. joining him and the New York Jets being the team to beat. ‘It’s all crumbling because we don’t want to give back a pick or they don’t want to take, but, oh, why us?’”

“‘Intention’ is not ‘want’ or ‘desire’…it’s not a commitment,” Craig said. “There’s nothing holding you to your intentions. Now, it’s been almost three weeks since he announced that intent…and nothing has happened.

“On the heels of my report yesterday and again this morning…all of a sudden, if I’m the New York Jets, I don’t want to panic, but I now have to get this done. Because every day this goes on is another day closer to blowing up.”

How odd would it be to see Rodgers eventually suiting up for the 49ers rather than the Jets in the 2023 NFL season?

John Elway has left the Denver Broncos!

It certainly will be an odd sight to see, but it’s come to pass.

Denver Broncos legend John Elway is no longer with the organization after having spent 16 seasons with them as quarterback and another ten in the front office. However, this move was reportedly already in the works for some time.

“I’ve enjoyed the relationship with the Broncos for a long, long time,” Elway, 62, said in an interview Tuesday with 9NEWS. “I told Greg I’d be happy to be a resource for him and help in any way that I can. I just wanted the flexibility. They’re in great hands. I still plan on being around to watch and be a resource for [CEO] Greg [Penner] or [general manager] George [Paton] if I can.”

The Hall of Fame quarterback helped the Broncos to two Super Bowl victories in five total appearances from 1983 to 1998, and was soon enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He also later served as director of player personnel/general manager/executive vice president of football operations for the Broncos from 2011-2020.

Steelers announce key addition to coaching staff

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made a key addition to head coach Mike Tomlin’s staff earlier today. Glenn Thomas is on his way to Steel City to serve as the new offensive assistant coach after having spent 2022 as the offensive coordinator at Arizona State.

Per Steelers.com:

“Thomas brings 20 plus years of coaching to the Steelers on the NFL and collegiate levels combined. Thomas spent the 2022 season as the offensive coordinator at Arizona State. Prior to his stint at Arizona State, he was the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach for two seasons at UNLV.

Thomas spent three seasons as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Baylor University. In 2019 the Bears went 11-2 with a No. 7 ranking before losing in the Sugar Bowl. During Thomas’ three years at Baylor (2017-19), quarterback Charlie Brewer was developed into one of the top quarterbacks in school history, throwing 69 touchdowns in three seasons and being named a semifinalist for the 2019 Davey O’Brien Award.

Thomas spent two seasons, 2015-16, at Temple University as quarterbacks coach and then offensive coordinator, helping to lead the school to back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time. He also was on the coaching staff at Midwestern State from 2001-07.”

Steelers fans will love Kenny Pickett’s latest comments

The Pittsburgh Steelers had themselves a new starting quarterback in the form of 1st round draft pick Kenny Pickett, who took over from the struggling veteran Mitchell Trubisky earlier in the 2022 NFL season.

And while it wasn’t completely smooth sailing, Pickett rebounded nicely in order to lead the Steelers on the verge of a postseason spot. Unfortunately, despite the winning record of 9-8, the Steelers would fall just short of qualifying for the postseason and had to watch from home.

You can bet that Pickett is going to be fully dialed in to get his team back to the postseason later this year, and he’s certainly putting in the work to ensure that he’s nothing short of his best when the team gathers for training camp in preparation for the upcoming campaign.

“I would be here mighty early. And I left mighty late,” Pickett said in an interview with Theresa Varley of Steelers.com “Showing up here when it was dark out and leaving when it’s dark is a little bit depressing. I was taking some vitamin D for sure.”

“I don’t track the hours. I just kind of go through how I need to prepare and then whatever it ends up being, it ends up being. It would be about leaving the building when I felt good about the day’s work, and I felt really confident going into the game.”

Folks, Pickett is fully dialed in, and that’s nothing but good news for the prospects of their success in 2023.

Cowboys projected to land RB Derrick Henry!

The Dallas Cowboys have already made the call to part ways with running back Ezekiel Elliott, meaning that Tony Pollard is now their main offensive weapon at the position. But that doesn’t mean that they’re not going to be bringing aboard additional reinforcements.

And according to a recently released report, the Cowboys could be in prime position to land a running back who has racked up better than 1,500 yards in three of his last four NFL seasons. Per ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry could potentially soon be wearing the colors of the Cowboys.

“There’s also a chance expensive veterans such as Derrick Henry and Dalvin Cook could be released after the draft,” Barnwell wrote on March 30, 2023. “Dallas could add a rookie in April’s draft, but Pollard’s uncertain status for Week 1 leads me to believe the team would probably prefer to have a more experienced back on the roster.”

Over the course of his career, Henry has racked up a total of 8,335 total yards and 78 touchdowns. How would you like to see him come to the Cowboys?

ESPN: C.J. Stround is the next Dak Prescott

The Dallas Cowboys have the 26th overall selection in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft, and there has been plenty of speculation that they could decide to go in the direction of taking the successor to current starting quarterback Dak Prescott.

Right now, the prevailing thought is that the Cowboys could take a waiver on Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud, who threw for a total of 8,123 yards and 85 touchdowns during his time in Columbus. And according to one particular ESPN analyst, Stroud draws a fair comparison to Prescott himself.

Take a look at what ESPN’s Matt Miller had to say about Stroud and his comparison to Prescott:

“CJ Stroud one my favorite players in the entire draft class. He has great accuracy to all levels of the field,” Miller said. “He is really a wide receiver’s best friend the way he throws a catchable ball. There’s more athleticism than a lot of people realize.

“CJ Stroud I think comes in right away as a starter and elevates the team.”

Prescott has two years remaining on his current deal with the Cowboys, and team owner and general manager Jerry Jones has made no secret about the fact that he’d like him to remain with the team for the rest of his professional career. In fact, Jones even said that he hopes Prescott will be their starter for the next decade.

While that remains to be worked out, there has also been rampant speculation on a potential new contract for Prescott that would allegedly see him paid nearly $300 million.
