Aviator and Vera Drake take BAFTAs

Grand production film The Aviator and small budget film Vera Drake, are both winners at the BAFTA awards, which is the British equivilent of the Oscars.

The Aviator directed by Martin Scorsese, won four awards, including BEST FILM.  Cate Blanchett also took the award for BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS. 

During the evening, Vera Drake earned three awards, including BEST DIRECTOR going to Mike Leigh, and Imelda Staunton, for BEST ACTRESS.

Among other awards at the formal ceremony Saturday night, Jamie Foxx was presented with the BEST ACTOR trophy for his performance in the autobiography Ray.  The BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR award was given to Brit, Clive Owen, for his role in Closer.
