According to Wenn, Lavigne, 22, believes that Britney Spears, 25, has herself to blame for her problems. Lavigne feels that the Toxic singer should have been able to handle the media pressure.
Lavigne, who is married to Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley, explained, "What’s happened to Britney is all down to who she is as a person. If you want a piece of this business you have to be able to deal with it."
Spears filed for a divorce from her husband, Kevin Federline, last November. Recently, the singer completed a four-week rehabilitation program in Malibu.
Lavigne added, "You can’t complain about the pressures, the paparazzi, because that’s the job."
