Avril Lavigne says goodbye to Kohl’s

Canadian singer ends partnership with American department store with plans to develop and sell her own clothing line.

Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne is launching her own clothing line, ending a two-year partnership with the American department store Kohl’s, reports Coco Perez.

Her Abbey Dawn collection will be completely overhauled and made available for direct sale through Lavigne’s website starting Friday (December 17), and wholesale orders will begin shipping in January.

Inspired by Lavigne’s personal style, Abbey Dawn covers a full range of clothing and accessories for juniors, including denim, swimwear, footwear, handbags, dresses and activewear.

Launched in July 2008 as part of a back-to-school collection, it was originally designed exclusively for Kohl’s. Lavigne has previously stressed that it is important to her to design her own clothing, rather than simply lending her name to the brand.

For her solo site, the singer is also developing her first menswear collection. Many expect it will gain some exposure through Lavigne’s boyfriend Brody Jenner, of The Hills fame.

Lavigne first broke into the music scene with her 2002 hit album Let Go. She is currently working on her fourth studio album, Goodbye Lullaby, which is scheduled for release in the spring. Originally scheduled to come out in November 2009, the upcoming album’s release has been pushed back several times.

The first single from the album, What the Hell, will premiere December 31 during Lavigne’s performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
