BAFTA announces nominations

British Academy of Film and Television Arts announces nominations for Rising Star award.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced its first nominations for the category of ‘rising star,’ reports BBC News.

Nominees, including Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace), Andrew Garfield (The Social Network), Tom Hardy (Inception) and Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass), and Emma Stone (Easy A, Superbad), are vying for the rising star trophy at the 2011 British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards.

Previous Bafta rising star award winners include James McAvoy, Eva Green, Shia LaBeouf and Kristen Stewart.

In addition, they also announced foreign language film nominations: Biutiful, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I Am Love, Of Gods and Men and The Secret in Their Eyes.

After the first round of voting, Black Swan appears to be the favourite with 18 nominations, followed by The King’s Speech with 15 nominations. Inception, Made in Dagenham, and The Social Network have also been nominated. Another round of voting will take place to reduce official nominations to five candidates per category.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts is a UK charity that hosts annual awards shows for excellence in film, television, and computer gaming. The complete list of nominations will be announced next Tuesday, January 18, with the awards show taking place Sunday, February 13.
