Ballet Slippers Are 60 Years Old

The Repetto company is celebrating the 60th anniversary of ballet slippers.

Although, big designers are still coming out with high heel shoes, the ballet slipper is still making its mark.

The ballet slipper is celebrating 60 years since its creation this month. The Repetto slipper has been worn by stars such as Eva Longoria Parker, Sofia Coppola, Kate Moss, Madonna, Lindsay Lohan and Sarah Jessica Parker.

The director of the company, Jean-Marc Gaucher is in the process of transforming a family business that was falling apart and was high in debt.

Serge Gainsbourg adopted this style of shoe in the 1970s, followed by Mick Jagger. The first shoe was created in 1947 by Rose Repetto, who made them for her son, Roland Petit. They were then seen on the big screen worn by Brigitte Bardot.

Today, the Repetto show is worn in 37 countries, and 200 new styles are made each month. For its 60th anniversary, Repetto is asking 60 celebrities such as Brigitte Bardot to wear a style of slipper, and the proceeds will go to the charity, UNESCO.
